Omm just saying since I’ve owned apple snails before… The reason why your snail eggs were infertile was because they probably drowned because they looked really wet in the video. Apple snail eggs are layed above water for a reason. This can be avoided by removing a bit of water from the tank to allow for a better space for the snails to hang out and lay eggs at the top of the tank. Additionally, the paper towel used was too wet which drowned the eggs even more. Personally, I left my apple snail incubator dry but some spray just a bit of water on the tissue to keep some moisture depending on the climate. This air space for the snails should be at least two-to-three fingers wide enough for egg clutch space. Keeping some air space for the snails is extremely crucial and vital since apple snails have both a lung and a gill. They have this long snout that extends to the top of the water for them to take in some air. If there is no air space at the top of the tank, they CAN suffocate which HAS happened with some of my snails. Hope this helps!🐌

Sorry, I can’t keep it in anymore with all these fishes and sheeps comments. Please don’t take it personally
Ohh, be careful doing that! When my mystery snail eggs were infertile, I did the same thing -- crushed them and fed them back to the residents of my tank. However, the infertile clutches had been sitting on the tank glass for a while, and I think they may have gone rotten, because not long after I fed them to my fish I had a sudden ammonia spike that ended up causing the unfortunate loss of three of my guppies. (Two immediately, and one later as a result of dropsy that I think was related to the incident)
I'm not sure if it was because the eggs were rotten or not, if maybe some of them went uneaten and rotted in the water and I overlooked them, or if there were other factors that contributed to the ammonia, but I still wanted to share my experience with you just in case.
Did you know that my chunky 🐠 ate one of the other 🐟

@@Tummyinnit Yeah, large carnivorous fish like cichlids will eat small fish if they're housed in the same tank together. Small livebearers like mollies and guppies will eat their own fry, as well. Fish are notorious for eating anything small enough to fit in their mouths -- my recommendation is if you don't want your big fish eating your small fish, just *don't* house them together, man.

If she'd have taken some of the environment from the tank (some of those mossy leaves from the top) and used only water from the tank..
And also used FAR less paper towels.. and let them get 80% dry every 2 days and then re-wet them.. they may have hatched
But the bacterial/fungal infection of those paper towels didn't have a diverse enough environment for the bacteria/fungi to fight eachother, so instead the bad bacteria&fungi took over and they poisoned the eggs (basic version of what happened, the more complex version is too long for me to explain every step, and nobody would read it anyways just like they won't read this =p)
Same thing happened with my little sister :( her snails finally laid eggs and she was so exited. Unfortunately they were infertile and we had to throw them away 1 month later. @@mmgs1148 You're probably talking about a different type of snail. Those snails are pests they show up everywhere in pet stores uninvited
Bro I thought it was the apple snail eggs 😭
If you want fertile eggs and happier snails, you’ll want to have more waterless space on the top of the tank. Snails are pretty clever when it comes to breeding and will store other snails sperm in their body and save it for when there is safe and ideal space for the eggs to hatch. The eggs can drown too close to the water so the snails know better. When you do get fertile eggs tho, it’s best to leave them where the momma left them but given that the snails here might be sharing a tank with small fish, it might be best to have a separate tank for breeding unless you’re okay with all the new babies being live fish food.
And if you do take the egg sack from the glass to move for whatever reason, it is best to keep them in a bar soap holder with holes inside a ready tank a few inches above the water. It’s the best incubating conditions and will lead to a lot less losses than container hatching which can kill a whole clutch.
I used to raise aquarium snails and raised many generations of happy n healthy lil cuties, hope this helps
Yea well my mom had a lot of fish but it's common sense she shouldn't have taken them, and then they might have had a chance to live. I hope she sees your comment

Wait why did i think that it was a mother snail carrying her child 😭😭
My little sister had snails once. She got two of them (in case you didn’t know, snails change genders to mate) knowing that they would have babies. They did. She didn’t take down a clutch that they had laid a lot AND I MEAN A LOT of eggs. Hundreds. THOSE BABIES HATCHED AND THERE WERE SO MANY OF THEM. HUNDREDS. THE TANK WAS FILLED WITH THEM. one day, a fish disappeared, then two, my sister suspects that the snails ATE THEM. Snails are strange creatures. If a snail dies, other snails will clean the shell.
Actually, most snails cannot change gender, there are only one species that can do this called "slipper limpets" With them, they are ALL born males and turn into females as they grow up, but if housed with a bigger snail, the bigger snail will turn into a female sooner than the average slipper limpet and the smaller one will put off on turning into a female when it should turn into a female.
The vast majority of nails are born as hermaphrodites (they have fully functioning genitalia of both males and females) but cannot switch at will. Hermaphroditic snails don't need a mate to reproduce either, so, avoid getting those types of snails.
Mystery Snails, however (the snails she had in her video are mystery snails I believe) are not hermaphroditic. They are either born male or born female and stay that way for their entire life. Males are usually smaller than females, which is why the smaller ones kept piggybacking the larger ones.
I accidentally bred 2 snails, and let me tell you.. TOO MANY SNAILS! Are you sure you want a couple hundred snails? I sure wasn’t ready for that 😂

They didn't look infertile, I use to breed and sell mystery snails. They are extremely difficult to keep hydrated enough to keep the babies alive long enough to fully develop and hatch, if you move them from their initial place. Try keeping them where they are and you'll be surprised to see them hatch. The main problem is there will be 500+ babies which will grow big and fast ! Xx

Aww the way the snail said :I need to tell you something…….your cute
Not the people in the comments not realizing that the snails were literally just vibing, and that random clutches are normal for female snails-
Months ago, my (now dead) adult snails laid eggs clutches. I managed to hatch a few, and I crushed the eggs that were not able to hatch. (Like one that was burnt.) I had many baby snails so, my family decided to give away many to other people who own aquariums.
@@The_hot_blue_fire_guy Most of those eggs never even hatched, because they were not in a suitable environment. There weren't even embryos.
Where those eggs were was way above the water, and they were too dry to even hatch.
@@planetobjeciaoureturns2914 I don’t mean the eggs in the video (I know they were infertile) I mean your eggs that you literally said in your comment were fertile! just a tip for anyone! if u want he eggs to hatch they have to be dry and warm ik sounds crazy but if they're close to the water line in ur tank or closed to always wet spots they're not gonna hatch, [ just open the tank lid for couple days when babies born have to fall immediately in water they'll start eating algae immediately don't worry if guppies eat a couple babies they can pets]
I love how much she cares about her fish and snails😊❤
Good eggs will be pink around hatch time and will start to look "moldy" (dark and white patches). At that point, you can smash the eggs under water to release the baby snails. You can also let them hatch naturally, but breaking the eggs open has a much higher survival rate. The baby snails are TINY! Like smaller than the head of a pin.
You actually did good for the environment
No different than feeding hens their eggs. Giving them back the nutrients they lost while making them.

my dad used to really want mystery snail eggs, but could never get them to work. a couple months ago, we saw a small cluster. then another. and then ANOTHER. so now our fish and snails are breeding. fun fact: mystery snail eggs are actually really hard!
I left my eggs in the tank and they hatched no issue at all. If you don’t want them to hatch in that tank or you worry about the fish eating them off the wall, if you have an empty small tank you can put your snails in for awhile until they lay more, they should hatch just fine in a tank.
They probably need to be submerged underwater to provide optimum conditions for hatching
“hey! I need to tell you somethings, you cute 🥰”
I can’t believe a snail that had edited words over it made my day better.
Careful about letting them hatch. My 2 mystery snails turned into hundreds within months 😂
My mystery snails just laid eggs and we’re terrified of em because they look creepy ):
We need to get rid of em before they hatch though, so we added some fish to their tank so they could eat the eggs.
I saw your nails right now and they are perfect and beautiful
Feed that eggs to the people in a fancy restaurant, and it'll cost around 500,000 per egg
Eh. 😂👍 I was surprised enough, though, that these fish happily ate them, as I heard they are so bitter that almost no animal would want to eat them... Which is part of why they're such a "successful" invasive species in many places... Weird. 😮 I also read that in preparation for human consumption (in Eastasia), the part of the snail body where the eggs are stored (the tip of the shell), should be removed, for the same reason...
oh damn, I'm early. hopefully there's a fertile clutch soon ! [only if you actually want more snails though.]
I like how you care so much about these tiny aquatic creatures
Next time do not hatch them. Snails are invasive species. And they kids are very prone to being runts. These runts live all their life In horrible pain. So it’s best to crush them when they are just eggs
Are you sure your not referring to one kind of snail species like pugs having breathing problems?
@@zenkith_ well yes they are prolly some snails that have that, the thing about almost all snails is that sense they have a lot of children it’s very much quantity over quality, so their kids are very prone to defects making all of their life in pain. No not all of the children are going to be like that but a good amount and I don’t think crushing alive snails even if they are runts is very pleasant . It’s best to crush them when they are young. Also setting them free would be bad too because they are again an invasive species (most not all) but if that much snails are put in an ecosystem it would collapse. I hoped that helped lol.
It looked like the longer one had a chance at survival. You can see a part of the clutch break when she is trying to put it in the case. That showed that it was delicate and maybe it had a chance of survival if she was a bit more careful. But that was amazing of her of trying to help the snail clutches hatch!
my friends thought my lychees were alien eggs.... It makes much more sense when someone calls snail eggs alien eggs than when someone calls fruit alien eggs...
I’m surprised you took them out. With my ramhorns, they lay the eggs on the glass and rocks and the babies just emerge a few days later. Maybe it’s just because they’re different species🤔
I always found it buzzard how some species just cannibalize one another like it’s nothing. Imagine if humans did the same thing. 🗿
The snail is not a Tesla! I thought the snail is being a Tesla but the snail is making love!!!
Snails actually do that a lot of times and people crunch them to make other bugs safe not to eat
Let me give you a tips. I'm a breeder and I exactly know how to hatch them. You must keep them try .. at the same time you have to provide humidity.
For that, take a small pot.. fil 50% of the pot with water. Then cover the top of the pot with a net . The net mush have holes so that the babies can pass after hatching. Keeping like this according to my instructions. You'll be successful

Mine looked like that but 3 still hatched as I left them be.
It is halarious how they ride on eachother, but, they were actually doing the thing to get the eggs. I have budgies (a type of birds). They also do the same thing sometimes to mate.
🥚 Why I purposely crushed my snail’s eggs
As much as I wanted these eggs to hatch, both clutches were unfertilized, but how did I know?
1. The first clutch was laid March 10 and the second was laid March 24. The first clutch was almost 4 weeks old and it was evident there were no developing embryos inside (same for the second).
2. Paper towel stains - only infertile clutches will stain the paper towel
3. The clutch is white/ translucent - no dark spots indicates no baby snails
4. The clutch dried out + shrunk over time (despite being in a moist environment - meaning there is nothing growing inside)
I decided to crush both clutches and fed them back to my guppies and snails since they’re high in protein and calcium :) Hoping they lay a fertile clutch soon!
