This movie is so brutal, but it makes you bloodthirsty. Even by the end, I still didn’t feel like the hero turned to a villain. I still think the villain deserved it all 😂

South Korea does film better than hollywood could only dream of. Other amazing films from SK are:
    - OldBoy
    - Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
    - The Chaser
    - Memories of Murder
    - The Wailing
    - The Handmaiden (one of the best, if not the best, LGBTQ films of the 21st century)
    - Parasite
    - Train to Busan
    - The Witch

    check these out chuuuuu

      You forgot...
      Yellow Sea
      No Tears for the death
      Taxi Driver
Silenced(The most amazing, yet most depressing movie i have ever watched, sobbed like a little girl after that one) Three days it took me to stop thinking about that movie and the evil that surround us everyday. Based on a true story.
      A dirty carnival
      The Suspect
      The Five
      The Host
      Nameless gangster
      Tunnel
      Broken
      The Witness
      Moss
The Tiger: An old hunters tale
      The new world
      Deliver us from evil
      Secretly, Greatly
      A Hard Day
      Bad Police
That's what i can think of out of my head. But there are a lot more. But this will keep you busy for a while. Good to see a fellow korean cinema watcher! Cheers.

The one thing about a lot of Asian movies (like this) is that it shows how women are expected to act (in many Asian cultures), they are not to be rude, or even really fight back when approached, accosted, or attacked by men; so they don't fight back or resist, so they just plead for their lives. Very sad.

You have to understand in South Korea even if you kill as many you wil get max 15 years . Also the thing said in an other movie from South Korea is you have to become a monster to make a monster disappear. ( called monster boy ) and the killer is one of the most famous actor from South Korea (old boy) yeah getting revenge but at the end we just see him destroyed and will probably go to jail in real. ( if that was really true I remember a man raping a man ra ping and killing a kid and got 6 years and now lives in front of a school 😮) You have to get the culture. And yeah Japan china sk are safe but when murders happens it’s gruesome like Junko.

This movie is wild, but I love it! Agree that it's the best revenge film I've watched. Excited for you to get into foreign horror movies. They don't have the MPAA rating their movies, so they are much better. I almost think it would be interesting if you did 2 weeks of the same movie, when you do the original version, and the inevitably crappy American version. Although both versions of Let The Right One In are good.
And beware of French horror. While I find Korean and French horror to be the best, those French films get crazy! Inside is probably the bloodiest film I've ever seen!

My brother was murdered almost 2 years ago but thankfully (I guess?) the person who did it was mentally ill & delusional at the time, so at least it saves me from having to reconcile why someone would do such an evil thing for no reason/only their own personal gratification. It weirdly does provide me some peace of mind, although it opens up other questions as to what could have been done to prevent his death & what is or is not an appropriate punishment for someone who was not responsible due to not being in their right mind at the time (but also who has a life-long illness that could easily re-lapse and cause something similar to happen again) There's definitely catharsis in a movie like this where the villain is just an evil, unrepentant guy who we can root for to be tortured & killed.

32:41 LOL 🤣 This reaction is hilarious, though I disagree with killing any innocents for what they haven’t done, just because others did bad things. It is revenge, but it’s not justice. And that’s what makes the villain in this and in real life the worst, when they harm helpless innocent people. (Even less than innocent who get outsized punishments.)
In this case, it won’t serve any purpose except one’s ego, which is selfish and evil. And frankly, leaving him alive to kill and assault people because of what he did was also serving one’s own pain while hurting others. Though it is incredible to watch! Someone (maybe even the director?) talked about the characters being like Fire and Ice, which is so true.
Terrible about your uncle. :-/ I’m sorry about that. I also know what you mean about how insane it is that these things really happen. People don’t like to acknowledge that except in theory, and I understand why. But that makes it harder for victims (who survive) and relatives of victims etc. to be believed, because people think it’s too “outlandish.” :-/
Oh also: couldn’t be a more fitting title, eh? And yes: 34:37

korean horror/thriller are my favourite films, old boy being my favourite film of all time. I would recommend park chan wook's films in general, a film that isn't quite horror but is a beautiful queer film is his film the handmaiden, genuinely a masterpiece film in my opinion
