- The seemingly limitless "Heartbreak Climb Uphill" is almost at an end, as upon departing my mooring at Thurlwood, I set myself the goal of tackling 8 locks - leaving just 6 to complete before Kidsgrove and Harecastle Tunnel.
The commitment to go 'that extra mile', doesn't just involve travelling set distances along the Trent & Mersey however, as I briefly discuss my intense weekly work schedule, as well as the reasons for my wishing to reach Kidsgrove.
On the way I stop off for coffee at Rode Heath and later, I attempt something never before seen (on the canals or elsewhere) - involving a lock and a pork pie . . .

I appreciate that Taye. It's true that of late I've become wary of pushing myself too much. One minute you think you're pacing yourself. The next you struggle to concentrate or stay awake.
@@CountryHouseGent Then please use canal time to process your videos and travel. Slow and steady, maybe not each week, but every two weeks or monthly. Don’t do too much too quickly it is worth the wait for what you produce.
He lives on a narrow boat that can't get any faster than 5 knots! How much more mellow is that?

I donno anything about editing but if you have to edit 2 days filming over 5 days would rather you upload every other week and give yourself some down time. Your vids mean a lot to all of us and we want you happy and going for a long time. Imho. Safe travels and Godspeed, Kev Tx🇺🇸

In the early days of the pandemic, someone recommended Travels by Narrowboat and the put-put-put was excellent at reducing stress! Definitely helped me get through the early days.

It may be my imagination but other canal users seem more 'communal' than before. Maybe being forced apart for so long has fuelled a sense of appreciation for what the canals have to offer and it's benefits?
Really enjoy the blogs Kevin great work sir. If you are travelling the length of the Trent Mersey then a stop off at Alrewas is a must, the Coates butchers there do the very best pork pies I’ve ever had. Take your time it’s worth the wait for these and thank you

As occasional holiday boaters my Wife and I really enjoy watching you on TH-cam so it was a thrill to see you exiting the Staffs and Worcester today turning North (via the water stop), you probably won't remember but we were the blue boat turning into the Staffs and Worcester and I sounded my horn. Anyhow, I can see the other comments - health and happiness are always first. We'll enjoy your content when and if it appears. In the meantime look after yourself and really nice to catch site of you, if only briefly

When I’m on nights, I always grab a coffee on my way back from London, on the M1 usually at Watford Gap, because it’s near the Watford flight. Wherever I go for work, the canals are never far from reach, which is another reason why I love the life!
I know exactly what you mean. Back near Xmas 2018, I was stuck at Crick and would travel down to the Watford locks. One reason (as well as good 4G) was the motorway services there, with a Costa and McDonalds.
I was thinking what if the coffee machine is down. Haha. Happy you got your coffee.

I'm not sure how gifted you are at being "social"...I suppose one would just have to be pleasant to expect "help" in the locks but for me that might prove challenging with all the smiling and chatting...I would think it would be hard to have a day of contemplative silence while traveling where locks are concerned...still, maybe it's possible from the British dynamic because I observe that a fan can leave you a nice bottle of beer without having the satisfaction of putting it in your hand with the expectation of conversation...Lockdown didn't do me any favors because I forgot how to engage in snappy banter .I suppose it's neccessary for your purposes though...Thx for keeping our minds engaged Kevin .
Between you, me and the gatepost William, socialising has never been my strong suit. In one way, the lockdowns were a breath of fresh air for me. 😁

We used to get our pork pies, HOT from the bakers, filled with hot seasoned pork and newly filled with Gelatine, the Slurpy liquid before it sets !
Our pies were NOT crispy !

Not a bad pork pie eh?! Nice. Though I know you've had some that were beyond words. Recently discovered a local place in Pittsburgh, US called The Pub Chip Shop that does all sorts of meat pies, and yes...occasionally pork pies, which I haven't had yet. But the meat pies and fish & chips are top notch so the pork can't be far behind. Enjoyed the video as always. Cheers!
