Since my Son's school is closed here in LA I'm going to make one with him. His 15 and in 9th grade so his old an of to do this. Hope all is well. Love you're videos I just started watching them. And I'm hooked. Love birds.
Thanks for the comment..Glad to hear it..YES it is a fun project with the kids...and once you hang them and get baby birds..It adds another adventure to your project...Have fun..
Birds love that lived-in look .. dont we all? Top tip is to rub a couple of handful of damp earth into the new wood .. Great Camouflage against predators such as cats .. its eco, and the birds will love you for it.
Ha ha...It can be addictive...in a good way...I too have made many..My wife keeps saying, give them away as gifts..and what a great idea that turned out to be..I gave one away at work and three other people asked for one..Back in the shop to make saw dust!!!...thanks for the comment..Love to hear things like that
Great video……but you need to add the length of each piece. Because I as dumb and would cut an build as you went along. Needless to say the back is the same size as the box. So I had to figure something out. Because I’m hanging on a metal fence post. Like us used for barbed wire. But tks.
Very well done. You included the important elements: great ventilation and drainage, correct hole placement and size and the 'ladder' instead of a perch. You also did not paint or stain and used natural wood not plywood or pressure treated. I like to add a predator guard. Unfortunately many videos are cute but are not healthy for the very animal they are trying to help. Good job.
Did you like the screen for the floor (go to time 6:20)??..I should have done a better job explaining..When I put in the wood floor I usually cut off the four corners of the floor..adding a good air flow..
What's your opinion on the predator guard - the extra piece of wood around the hole ? I have boxes both with and without , I don't see any difference but would like your opinion . Thank you
The extra piece around the hole might be the best..I too have some with and some without..I have notice that when the hole size is too big that when the larger birds will attack the nest..I had a House Wren nesting in a birdhouse with a hole size too big for them. And the sparrows went in and killed the babies.. Hope this helps
No its not to late...The birds can have several Broods (families) in a year..Some birdhouse could have up to three broods (families) in a season. and if you are to late, the birdhouse will be well established for next year..Plus the birdhouse can be just a nice decoration in the yard or Garden..Good luck and have fun with it...Thanks for asking
Nice and easy, simple to follow, that is the way I like it...Thanks Ken

Why am I thinking of Kenny Everett's Reg Prescott?
Love to be thought of in that crew..

UGH so sorry..I try to be detailed on the video..but must have skipped that one..I hope you adjusted and all worked out

Great video, what type of stapler are you using?
I was using 3/8 with a hand held staple gun..Hope that helps
@@Backyardprojectguy hey thanks for the reply and yes it does....

Thanks for the comment..I really appreciate it..and I hope this helps people build good houses..
Very nice , but not enough air flow for the baby birds . 4 holes in the bottom piece would be a good move ! 😉
Did you like the screen for the floor (go to time 6:20)??..I should have done a better job explaining..When I put in the wood floor I usually cut off the four corners of the floor..adding a good air flow..
had to build another one..

Isn’t the ladder supposed to be on the inside so the young can get out when it’s time.
Good question..Something I did not talk about (my Bad) ...But I do put the ladder on both sides, inside and outside....Thanks for the comment..
Ken Deininger Thanks for the quick reply.
Great instructions, it was easy to build
