I think this is a 1979 broadcast not 1976 due to a few clues in the broadcast such as Governor Thornburg and March 1978 being mentioned.

Whether 1979 or 1976, this was high art then when it came to television news compared to how FOX, MSNBC, Newsmax and OAN make travesties of the profession with politics (the scene in the opening where news film is being reviewed and edited for insertion represents how much more labor went into making a newscast then as opposed to how seemingly cheaply it's done now).

Very cool! My grandfather was a cameraman for WNEP around this time

This is cool to see a newscast from the 70’s. Will we see any newscasts from the 90’s?

In 1990 I was stuck in an awful snowstorm in Wilkes-Barre. I made it through the night, but it was harrowing. Interesting to see this.

That's some slick-looking electronic text for 1976. Lots of stations didn't have as good looking stuff until well into the 80s.

Other commenters have determined this was from 1979, not ‘76.

The correct airdate is Feb 19, 1979. I love how J Kristopher looked like a ghost on the chromakey for the live dopplar radar. My hometown Deposit, New York had this station on cable until 1993.

Supposedly ch16 at one point was the highest rated ABC station in the nation, probably due to being carried on cable systems outside of pa.

So great to see this clips again. I am 60 and remember these faces and the Move closer to your world theme. Too bad they don't play the full theme today instead of just a short version

I agree they referenced 1978 items. Also talked about 1980 Olympics. Great to see I remember watching. I grew up in Hazleton

I’m a 70’s kid. Grew up in Williamsport. Never would’ve thought, I’d enjoy watching old, local, news casts! Good to see old, familiar faces and places!
Moved (way) out of the area long ago!

Too bad for the Parkettes--the U.S. boycotted the Moscow Olympics because of the invasion of Afghanistan.

Definitely 1979. I wonder when Joe Zone started at WNEP and left and when did J Kristopher move to doing sports?

18:51 God bless JOE ZONE, who was WRONGLY FIRED from WNEP-TV later for calling my former hometown Honesdale, PA a "hick town." He was absolutely 💯 percent right then and he is correct now! Any improvements there came too little, too late to mean anything to those who left permanently, like me!

If Thornburgh is the governor in this newscast, this is DEFINITELY NOT 1976!!

I was 4 years old in February of '76.
They had to "dig out"...from 4 whole inches of snow....in February.
So absurd sensationalism isn't new, huh??

Your theme song was more exciting in 1976 vs the boring "hip-hop" version you youngsters use today.

So it says 1976. They refer to 1978 as the past and the books have a 1977 date.
