You see, in nature, mammals tend to leap and dive forward to attack their prey and predators alike. It's an unstoppable maneuver that is topped only by the few creatures that are capable of spinning upwards while upside-down. This also confirms that Wolverine is actually a Sonic the Hedgehog character. Unfortunately, due to his mostly-human DNA he is incapable of homing in on his target while performing this diving lunge.
Haha, to answer your question, we added that move because we wanted to add some cool strong ground smash.(heavily inspired by god of war and childen of the atom) Why it looks so weird? We had 8 months to go from demo to no bugs to make the release date. Not much time for iteration.
John Wraith just like movie, was a teleporter... I keep forgetting that him and Mystique are in the game, and he's implied to be father of Nightcrawler... which is, a choice. Technically, Maverick is in the movie and game, but they used his later incarnation, Agent Zero, who has pinpoint accuracy, and none of his kinetic energy absorbing powers, which was so lame.
I actually forgot they were working on one. We've seen so little of it and Spider-Man 2 has been hyped and Spider-Man PC has recently had all the attention. But yeah we need more info on Wolverine. :)
Was the first handheld where you'd often get home console experience without it needing to be remade as a 2D game. Which had some people complain it had PS2 ports? Like that was a bad thing? I liked having portable versions of some of my PS2 faves like The Warriors to take with me. :) And of course it then had it's own entries in PS2 series like it's God of War games. I remember being so amazed to see those running on a portable system. :O
Very true! Always played Mortal Kombat Unchained which is basically MK Deception plus more! PS Vita was also very close to that experience with Mortal Kombat 9 and Borderlands 2. These handhelds are amazing.
Wow. This was one of my first PSP games I got. And to make things cooler? I LITERALLY just picked up the Xbox 360 version a few days ago and MAN it is so fun! So much blood lol! Good stuff Matt!
Well, if you like those, I recommend the PS2 version too. It's a port of the Wii version. Graphics are a little lower quality than the Wii one, but PS2 doesn't have dumb motion controls, and otherwise the game plays the same as Wii. It's weird. There's 3 similar, but distinctly different versions of this game. PSP, PS2/Wii, and PS3/360/PC. They all play similarly, in that they're 3D level-based beat 'em ups that follow a similar story. But they all play different enough, and have their own unique levels and things, to warrant giving all 3 a try. There's also a half-decent DS version, but that's a sidescrolling beat 'em up...level explore-y kinda game. Not bad, but not the 3D beat 'em up that the others are.
the half-assed censorship in the intro movie is so fucking weird, cutting out some of the kills and not showing enemy blood, but then they show logan literally with holes shot into his torso slowly knitting himself back together and regenerating half of his burnt-off face in all its gory glory. since you mentioned x-2: wolverine's revenge, I'd get a kick out of seeing you play that one. I remember it being balls-to-the-wall hard and being marketed based on the movie even though it wasn't at all set in the same universe. so weird.
Idk if someone already pointed it out but you did get all the 'smashables' in the second stage. The total at the end was the 23 from that stage plus the 12 from the first. Sorry, I hope that elementary math doesn't seem insulting lol.
I think Wolverine must be pretty strong to be carrying about all that adamantium and still able to leap and such. Maybe that's another effect of his healing, real easy to build up the muscle.
I recommend the Marvel Superhero Squad game I always found them fun and no one talks about them much anymore. One uses that Drawing Tablet thing that came out for game consoles so I get why that one no one talks about much but it was actually pretty fun
The PS3 version is awesome honestly the best Wolverine game given or one of the best, I recall X-2 Wolverine's Revenge is the best game next to the X-Men Origins Wolverine and I only played Origins which is an AWESOME ACTION GAME, would love to see it ported to modern ports if possible, it's so good that's criminal it isn't.
@@thegamingprozone1941 Old licensed games sometimes make a comeback. Cowabunga Collection is a recent example. That'll be on the store for a while before Konami's current license with Nickelodeon ends (as it did with various companies when they released the TMNT, Simpsons and X-Men arcade games on the PS3/X360 store). Capcom's licensed Marvel a couple times with big gaps in between. So it COULD happen, it's not massively likely but it is possible if Activision want to pay up for the licensing from... Disney I guess now?
@@thegamingprozone1941 True but I would love that to be wrong though, I did hear rumors that Activision Blizzard was cooking up a bunch of remasters for their Marvel Games back when they were just starting to port a bunch of them over including a Bunch of Spider-Man games and the like, so it's possible, Disney owns FOX now the company that made all the X-Men movies and I feel like all they would have to do aside from dealing with contracts involving those movies is to talk with Activision themselves and if they clean themselves up after Microsoft buyout of ActiBlizz is complete, it could actually be a reality.
Actually, they made Wolverine kinda weak in the X-Men movies. He was insane at healing, better than in the comics up to that point, but way less acrobatic and athletic. Wolverine in the comics was super fast and could move around real well.
Imagine you're a military officer who just sent troops out to deal with a hairy Canadian, and you get like 6 reports in a row that say "in an act of desperation, he managed to stab three operatives with his own exposed bones and absconded with our motorcycle in the confusion."
Oh man, I really loved working on this game (go ahead and check the credits under gameplay programming). I could tell you some war stories working on this game but Id get sued by Activision. Lets just say that everyone in the trenches put a lot of heart and sweat working on this one. First PSP game any of the team worked on.
I played the DS version. Couldn't beat the Sabretooth fight on level 3 I think. Quit playing after that. Edit: Wow. Just seeing the first level makes me believe this really is obscure. Only knew the DS, PS3, and PS2 versions.
The sad part is I grew up owning this as a kid because my family couldn't afford an Xbox 360 or PS3 at the time. Now is different but yeah your definitely bringing back nostalgia for me. It's still a decent Portable wolverine game
Eh, not too sad. This isn't a BAD game. It's still fun. In fact, all 4 versions of the game are different and fun. There's the PSP version, PS2/Wii, PS3/360/PC, and DS. DS one is it's own thing. Like the DS usually did, it's a sidescrolling game instead of 3D. Still decent though for what it is. BUT, the other 3 versions are all 3D level-based beat 'em ups, and they're all pretty fun. They all play similar, but not the same, and they all have their own exclusive levels and things here and there. Like the PS3/360 one having the drop from the sky, and that whole intro, where as PSP has the dojo, and PS2/Wii had the fight with the locals.
Oh yeah I remember having this (in addition to the PS3 uncaged edition). Awesome bit of portable Wolverine fun. And I love 'The Wolverine' film too. That 'critics consensus' is silly. YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE THINGS!
I agree, it is actually pretty cool that they rendered two different versions of the intro cutscene. I was surprised when I saw it (it's the same version used on the PS2/Wii version). I would have expected them to do like a LOT of games did, and just toss in still images and pretend it's a stylistic choice to make it look like a comic book. Even if some of the cutscene looks super weird when censored. Like the claws going through that guy's head...there's no claws. So it just looks like he died from nothing. They also removed most of the claws going through someone, so suddenly Logan's claws are super short for a second. But then they also just left the shotgun hole in his stomach, and bloody spots in that same scene. So, the censorship doesn't exactly seem consistent. Especially when the cutscene shows you killing robots, followed by killing humans in the actual gameplay.
0:32 Call me "time", then, cause I still have my copy. I know we've had that new Wolverine game teased like a year ago (is it still being made?), but now that all the Fox issues have been saddled, we could have this Wolverine (and Deadpool while we're at it) game re-released.
I played the shit out of this game on psp when I was younger and I loved every single second. I actually didn’t know this was the “different” version LMAO
