Our granny told us this story when we were kids but with none of your wonderful detail and study and she'd told it with a few different locations) Her mother came from just outside Athlone (Roscommon side) and had been told as a child that it was in Monksland in Drum, just at the point where Lough Ree closes back into the Shannon that the Badb had appeared to the Ulster Men as they attempted to cross the Shannon. The location apparently became a place of great slaughter and an angular piece of land jutting into the shannon became known as Dead Men's island (Although there's another story that it's called this because Viking bodies drowned in Lough Ree were washed up there). There's a tradition along the Westmeath/Longford border that the Hostel was located on a hill in the parish of Drumraney. The "Bruidne" was later translated to "Breen" and later the townland became known as "Bryanstown" (Bryanmore, cloghbreen). The fort still sits atop the hill and is still known as "The Breen". I think it was marked on the old OSI maps. If it's any help it's still visible on Google maps here: www.google.com/maps/@53.4589801,-7.7724595,481m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!10m1!1e2

I do not get the name of whoever is criticizing you; however, I don' t think they'd do any better. This I state w/out knowing the person since I don't need to know yet another hater: this internet dismaying has to stop. I, like many others, appreciate and value your hard work and most importantly am being facilitated by it so much I reckon : D

Why doesn't that critic offer some help or open the way to assistance and learning instead of criticism, perfectionist standards without solution? Make an offer for an hours conversation to help with practice or something, that's practical instead of being precious 🧐. Rather hypocritical & ( 🤨 ) Friken rude. Reminds me of my family that criticize my decline with our Italian dialect but don't speak it with me or help me practice. 🤬
