Ordered a 7 and 7 at a bar in Vegas. The bartender had a hard time locating the bottle. I hear him mumble under his breath " I know we have it . We keep a bottle around for Old Dudes"....full disclosure: I'm an old dude.
You guys are looking at Seagram's 7 from a whisky connoisseur's perspective, which makes perfect sense. But from a bartender's perspective, it's worth keeping a bottle around as the "7 and 7" was once a staple and is still a popular drink amongst older folks.
The amount of interaction you 2 manage to maintain despite your size is pretty staggering. There are thousands of voices (110k subscribers here, nearly 13k views on this video, and over 200 comments) and yet I often see responses from the Vault or Rex here, in Facebook, etc. I honestly don't know how long you guys spend going through this stuff but you have built a magnificent community and still find time for it. And I don't even mean in spite of a bit of e-fame. I mean in spite of day jobs, distillery, and whatever else you guys and the Trash Panda and anyone else that regularly helps produce content does.
MGP started out as a Seagrams plant to make the 7 Crown blend. Bourbon Pursuit did an interview with their former Master Distiller. It's worth a listen.
one day i wanted to try whiskey so i searched whiskey on youtube to know what to start with and found your channel, the more i watched the more i fell in love with whiskey. i started with jameson , macallan 12 and auchentoshan spring wood which were all amazing but last week i got to try 6 different scotch whiskys from all Scotland regions for 35$, what stood out for me was bunnahabhain pedro ximenez finish islay whisky what stood out for me was the nose , i got overwhelming caramel not like other whiskys which the alcohol was more dominant. love this channel and keep the good work . cheers
7 and 7 was my jam when I was a drinker. You are correct when you say "aged vodka". Another budget Canadian worth a giggle is Black Velvet, I dare you to check it out :D
I recall back in the 70's Seagram 7 was very popular in public bars and home bars and therefore it's managed to stay around. I think a 750ml goes for around 12.00 though.
Just trying Seagrams 7 today for the first time. The one hint of flavor that I tasted but you guys didn't mention was anise or licorice. The finish was the taste of dirt or beets (same flavor if you ask me.) I paid $13.00 at Target in Sacramento, CA
Decided to treat myself on my birthday and I picked up a bottle of monkey shoulder and buffalo trace each and enjoyed both, the reviews helped in the decision making. Thanks 👌
Never tried Seagram's 7 b4, but with a 15% difference in taste from Crown I will no longer "poo poo" it. I do believe the price that Daniel quoted was for a handle though.
Back in the early 70s it was very sophisticated to order a 7 and Seven. You were extremely adventurous if you ordered a Johnny Walker Red. And to answer the question Rex raised in the video, yes Seagrams 7 was a very early "good" whiskey that has maintained its place at the bar. And it is still easy to order the 7 and Seven.
This has been my go to when all the liquor stores are closed and the only thing that's open is the bar and I'm able to buy a bottle to go at 2am since I've been old enough to drink. It never fails and always comes in clutch. I'm able to get other stuff but it's extremely limited and I'm a Whiskey guy.
I wasn't really thinking of scotch, but that's one I still need to try. I'd hardly call it bottom shelf though. It is expensive where I live, around $50.
Daniel, have you ever considered releasing any tasting notes you have on the bottles you’ve tasted over the years? I’d be interested in full write ups of some of these whiskeys paired with shenanigans in your videos.
Crown Royal used to in the Seagram portfolio and distilled and aged in my hometown of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. My grandfather used to get a hold of used whiskey barrels to make cider in.
I believe I see a bottle of Royal Brackla 12 over Daniel's shoulder, would you consider reviewing that? I picked up a bottle after renting a cottage a couple of miles from the distillery while vacationing in Scotland two years ago and would be interested in your thoughts.
I love seagram's 7 I've been drinking it for years with orange juice. I do like other's like Tx, buffalo trace,4 Rose's and Jameson but my favorite is the good old cheap seagram's 7. I would like to see yall do a video on seagram's vo.
One of my dad’s friends gave him a bunch of dusty bottles, including an 80s Jim Beam white label, an old Suntory Japanese whiskey, a Cuddy Sark blended scotch, and a Seagrams 7 American whiskey. It’s an 86 proof caramel vanilla bomb and tastes just like makers 46. I’m a bourbon & rye drinker but I actually really like this dusty. I kind of want to buy the current version just to compare.
Daniel you'll appreciate this information, because Rex is uncultured and won't, MGP was originally a Seagram's distillery, and the original first couple brands sourcing their Rye were using that "magical" 95% Rye that was only made as part of the blend for the Seagram's 7!
Hey guys, I am trying to get my father to try some new whiskeys. He only ever drinks Crown Royal, so what would be a good whiskey for me to get him to try next? Also great work! love all the tomfoolery
Hey guys! Could you make a video about distilleries to visit if you ever took a trip to Scotland? I am planing a trip for next summer and I would like some inspiration Thank you for making such great videos!
Question, how many whiskeys use malted corn? I know it would would change the sugar content of the mash and thus the alcohol output of the fermentation. But would it also change the flavor?
I have a question - apologies in advance to Rex if it gets answered on camera. I've heard from friends who homebrew beer that brown bottles are better for keeping beer due to how much it lets in sunlight. Does the same apply to whiskey given that sunlight can also reduce a whiskey's shelf life? I note that most whiskies come in clear bottles with some use of green or brown but these are comparatively rare. Given that a bottle of whiskey is likely to stay on a shelf longer than a bottle of beer, is it not more important with whiskey?
Hello MBs; are there go-to resources for researching/discovering the details surrounding whiskies, such as mash bill, age statements, distilling processes, barrels etc.? I feel as if there is no central repository for getting both an overview snapshot of a whiskey/distillery or the interesting details. Keep up the Lord's work!
Hey Guys! I just got a bottle of Angels Envy and it's easily one of my favorites whiskeys I've ever tried. Does anyone have other recommendations of bourbon or scotch that would be similar?
Hey guys! Now do you think you‘re becoming a Hype as well? Saw a Post on FB. „Is there someone with an own opinion and Can you stop loving everything Rex and Daniel like?“ Some sort of that. I both agree and disagree sonetimes with your Reviews but its entertaining and I realy Enjoy everything you do. So keep up the good work and have a great week!
Alternate Single Malt Canadian to the Glen Breton is one called Lohin McKinnon out of British Columbia. Being Canadian I'm trying to give a shot to all the domestic stuff and this one has really stuck with me. I'm usually more of a Islay or Island scotch man so keeping this one around is saying something. Cheers!
My father exclusively drinks Seagrams 7 and coke. I always make jabs at him for drinking “swill”. Although I drink Colonel Lee often so maybe I can’t say anything.
Canadian Mist you guys should review! It’s very cheap and also Kessler. Just be warned there not good lol.It would be cool to see you guys review them!! Love your channel!
Hello i recently got Talisker 10, Johnie Walker double black and Laphroag quarter cask , i wonder is it just me or Johnie walker double black is not that much of a smokey whiskey ?
I first found the show when I turned 21 by searching for a nice bottle of alcohol, and I am extremely interested in attending the whisk(e)y marketing school. How long are the classes and when do they start? Also is there a bonus lesson on how to mooch?
After watching the show for a few months now (plus binge watching old episodes) I have expanded my pallet and knowledge much farther than I thought I ever would be possible and just wanted to thank you for the introduction to this magnificent culture.
Hey guys, I work at a store in Colorado mainly as the whiskey guy thanks to the knowledge you have bestowed upon me you magnificent bastards. I was curious about the Bruichladdich Cuvée series. We have all three in our store and our rep told us that it’s amazing we have these and there is a big Bruichladdich cult following behind them, is it worth it to pick one up for the price ($199.99)? And also which one? Cheers!
Daniel, your comments about living in 1897 with cars gave me an idea for the channel. How has whiskey changed since 1897 and which current products offer similar characteristics from a century ago? Of course, such a video would need to be accompanied with period-dress that a gentleman might wear!
Love you guys and what your about. Every opinion is subjective even your and you know it and that’s why I like you folks and I’m Canadian 🤪 . My option on Northern Harvest CR is that it was a fanatic who key but no where close to being the best in the world. I’m not sure how you would classify it as best as so many varieties of whisky and styles in the world. Flavours for every mood so there will never be one that is the best. Thx!
Hi Daniel.... And Rex I guess. What are a few whisk(e)ys for a person that likes things like black coffee and dark chocolate. Mabey something peated? Any suggestions from the tribe would be great as well. Cheers
You should all know that Canadian whiskey's are popular due to prohibition. Here in SE Michigan, there are plenty of history stories about booze being brought across the Detroit River in many different ways. There's a reason there's a distillery right across the river in Windsor, Ontario.
Oh, I want to play the "What would you do with this whiskey" game with Seagrams! I'm at a bar, and the bartender is mixing a 7 and 7. I'm drinking a cocktail because I've been working in the shop all day, it's summer, I'm hot and sweaty, and I want my first drink to be more thirst quenching than my typical neat bourbon.
Hey guys! I recently got a great new job at home after being away working for 6 months! I really want a good mid-high end Irish whiskey to celebrate. What do you recommend?
I use to drink crown royal but it was to expensive so I tried seven crown. I think crown royal is better but it isn’t twice as better like the price. I still buy crown royal sometimes.
Pandamonium yes. By American standards, you can blend Whisky with neutral grain spirits, and call it Blended Whisky. Unblended Whisky means it's not blended with neutral grain spirits in the USA.
Pandamonium, in most countries it's the distillation process that defines what a vodka is. In the US for example, if the same mash bill as bourbon is distilled to 190(?) proof then the resulting distillate has to be legally called vodka and not bourbon/whiskey.
Hi guys! I have a whiskey story for you... (kind of) Few days ago, I watched one of the episodes featuring Highland Park Magnus, where Daniel mentioned, that Highland Park might be a good gateway to peat. So I finally pulled my head out of my a**, and decided to try out some of that peat magic. And as the saying goes "Go big, or go home", I ordered a bottle. After 3 absolutely painful days, while drooling to an empty Glencairn, the bottle finally arrived. It was the Highland Park Viking Honour, whole 700ml of that beauty. Now, it might be appropriate to mention, that for my whole life, I've been drinking only the classic, most available budget whiskeys (Jameson, Tullamore, Grant's, Ballantine's...), so I had absolutely no idea what is going to happen, once I open that bottle. After a few glasses, I decided to leave you a message: THANK YOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! You just changed my entire life. So as I'm sipping on this, I have a few questions to ask you: What other (budget) whiskeys, with similiar peat intensity, should I try? And more importantly... What is the next step in this peat magnificence?! Your grateful viewer, Jakub
You could try the Bunnahabhain 12. It´s just a few bucks more and definitely worth it and i nearly alway have a bottle of it in my "collection" as it became one of my standards. I got to peat from the other side tho. My first peated malt was the Octomore Futures. I was lucky to get the chance to try one last year and got instantly hooked. Till then my "collection" was all about smoothness so i was mostly messing around with speysides and sweet finishes like port or rum.
Great story man! (very relatable indeed) so if you ever want to take the smoke up a notch, see if you can try some of the talisker variants (I've had the 10 years and Skye) it is quite a bit more smokey, but in my opinion it is not kicking you in the face like a laphroaig would (but I must confess I am not a hardened veteran drinker) I hope you'll enjoy it like I do......
I would say next step up in peat level there is Talisker. Id say Bunnahabhain is way less peaty (but great whisky in all regards). Bowmore is more peaty then Bunna but still less then Highland park (my opinion), but less of a whisky. If you try Talisker and like it, Id go for something from south Islay classic trio (Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig), which are the actual smoke bombs :D
Sir, there are more great whiskies out there. Hold on to your socks because it will blow your mind. Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Bruichladdich, Laphroaig, Talisker, Oban, etc, etc, etc........get on board the whiskey train brother! Lol!
Will you please review Canadian Hunter whisky?! They have somehow managed to capture a photograph of Rex mushing a team of dogs , rifle in hand. I'd love to know the story behind this picture and how Rex became so man-nificent? They also have a rye but I have not had an opportunity to try it yet. I live very close to Canada and while it's not as good as some of the strict Canadian hords it's damn fine for the price (which is cheap as dirt here in Michigan's upper peninsula)
Eric Schwab I have both but I guess because I don't have a good glass to put it in makes it hard to drink for me. The alcohol just seems to overpower everything. Also it could just be my senses
In Houston Seagram's 7 is half the price of Crown Royal as well as being one of the most inexpensive bottom shelf selections and thus I think it would be my bottom shelf preference.
Essentially, it comes down to the proof that it was distilled it. For it to stay a new make whiskey, it can’t come off the steel any higher than 160 proof. Vodka is usually over 190
Justin Plett I had some at my brothers the other night in New Brunswick CANADA and it’s really really good. But a little expensive in these parts over $80 cad if my memory serves me.
I think it is the bottle and there label and it's not a bad whiskey that big 7 on it has something to do with it selling well kinda like crown with the bag people half the time by crown so they can have it they do good at labeling.
When I am sick with a cold or a sinus infection, etc. my go to is Seagrams and gingerale. Doesnt matter about nosing or tasting because I am sick, so why waste the more complex stuff.
I know we talk about wanting different guests on the show such as other distillers, or other youtubers, but what I would really enjoy is some of Rex's old teachers from Jr. and Senior High. I can only imagine what he was like as a student.
Seagrams 7 uses MGP whisky still as that was a Seagrams distillery for most of the 20th Century. Look at 1930’s ads for the Seagrams 7 and 5 Crown, yes there was a version with even more grain neutral spirits in it. The branding is almost identical to Crown Royal. Seagrams always had cool bottles. They did a series of aged rye and bourbons called Pedigree that was supposedly excellent. It was back in the 30s though. Also that’s when they came to prominence, right after Prohibition and we’re ubiquitous ever since in Canada and the USA
Ordered a 7 and 7 at a bar in Vegas. The bartender had a hard time locating the bottle. I hear him mumble under his breath " I know we have it . We keep a bottle around for Old Dudes"....full disclosure: I'm an old dude.
I like 7and7 I’m drinking one now lol
An old dude gave me a bottle 😂
I do appreciate that y'all do continue to read and respond to the TH-cam comments.

I like these cheap whiskey reviews. Still waiting for that J&B rare scotch. Also $25 for seagrams is crazy i can get that same bottle for $9
me too would like to see some Kesslers Black Velet and Seagrams VO Reviews for a switch :)
Ohio prices are $12 for the Seagrams and $24 for the Crown.
@@iamalan4221 Massachusetts 40 for crown and 20 for seagram
Teck Rylee That’s nuts! I thought Ohio prices were bad.
@Anonymous Anonymous u have taste paint thinner before lol

Best damn review of Seagrams 7 I have seen in a long, long time! Spot on!
I've gone back to my Michter's American.....
I recall back in the 70's Seagram 7 was very popular in public bars and home bars and therefore it's managed to stay around. I think a 750ml goes for around 12.00 though.
Pretty sure $25 is the price of the 1.75 liter bottle. I’ve never see a 750 mL of Seagrams for more than $15.
I paid $11.75 last night in PA.
@@len-zeplin480 Right, and the Crown is twice the price.
Shit where I live its almost 40$ a half gallon
$13.45 in a the SF Bay Area

Just trying Seagrams 7 today for the first time. The one hint of flavor that I tasted but you guys didn't mention was anise or licorice. The finish was the taste of dirt or beets (same flavor if you ask me.) I paid $13.00 at Target in Sacramento, CA
My first thought on getting here was "Wait, they're gonna drink Seagrams neat?"

Seagrams 7 is my go to. Even straight on the rocks. But i love all whiskey.

It's my first to drink whiskey and and drinking the light version of seagrams right at this moment. This is so good with coke..
a 7&7 is what got me first drinking whiskey but now it's usually at a casino when the cocktail waitress comes around
In PA, 7 and 7s are a wedding reception standard along with a Seabreeze, Fuzzy Navel, and Screwdriver.
Hey Guys, recently found your channel. And bought Monkey's shoulder as my first real whiskey. Couldn't be happier! Thanks for all the knowledge
Seagrams seven 1 liter bottle is like 13$. King of budget whiskey

Pandamonium, in most countries it's the distillation process that defines what a vodka is. In the US for example, if the same mash bill as bourbon is distilled to 190(?) proof then the resulting distillate has to be legally called vodka and not bourbon/whiskey.
I'm on a watching spree so i dont die of boredom on this train.
Hi guys!
I have a whiskey story for you... (kind of)
Few days ago, I watched one of the episodes featuring Highland Park Magnus, where Daniel mentioned, that Highland Park might be a good gateway to peat.
So as I'm sipping on this, I have a few questions to ask you:
What other (budget) whiskeys, with similiar peat intensity, should I try?
And more importantly...
What is the next step in this peat magnificence?!
Your grateful viewer,
Jakub
Talisker (whatever version is cheaper in your area) or JW Green. JWG would be slightly friendlier option
Lol!
How about a blind tasting where some bottom shelf whiskes are unknowingly inserted into the mix?
Will you please review Canadian Hunter whisky?! They have somehow managed to capture a photograph of Rex mushing a team of dogs , rifle in hand. I'd love to know the story behind this picture and how Rex became so man-nificent? They also have a rye but I have not had an opportunity to try it yet. I live very close to Canada and while it's not as good as some of the strict Canadian hords it's damn fine for the price (which is cheap as dirt here in Michigan's upper peninsula)
Isn't Seagram's 7 made with MGP spirits? I know Diageo sources the 95 Rye for Bulliet 95 Rye from MGP in Lawrenceburg, IN.
I have never heard of a 7 and 7 but I did try a Laphoroaigh and sprite that was awesome
I wanna see you guys do a review on Yukon Jack...
How about doing a mixer video. Pick a cocktail (or a highball I guess) and make it with a handful of whiskeys to see if you can taste the difference?
Check out the whiskey biscuits channel. They do this for manhattans and old fashioneds
In my neck of the woods crown is 30 bucks almost on the dot and 7 is like 12.99 before tax
Thanks guys, I needed that today.
What are your thoughts on Wild Turkey Rare Breed 116 proof and 112 proof?
Yes! I have 116 proof and find it a nice dram!
Eric Schwab I have both but I guess because I don't have a good glass to put it in makes it hard to drink for me. The alcohol just seems to overpower everything. Also it could just be my senses
“Give me a 7 and 7” - Mob Guys
I like the new toast. Keeps things lively
In Houston Seagram's 7 is half the price of Crown Royal as well as being one of the most inexpensive bottom shelf selections and thus I think it would be my bottom shelf preference.
Does that elevate CR to top shelf status?
What is the difference between vodka and new make?? I can’t even find the answer online
Essentially, it comes down to the proof that it was distilled it. For it to stay a new make whiskey, it can’t come off the steel any higher than 160 proof. Vodka is usually over 190
Oooooooooooooooooooooo that makes sense now.Thankyou:))
Can you guys review Octomore 8.3?
For the next "Bottom Shelf Matters" you should do Clan MacGregor.
Also, still waiting on a review of Chivas.
Scottish Piper or Royal Thistle too....really low end
Any good sweet whisky suggestions? My dad likes Southern Comfort and I was hoping to find a sweet whisky we could enjoy together.
Brenne....it’s a French whiskey and cotton candy sweet
YAY! Scenarios are back!
I think we should call Daniel's new scooter Samwise Gamgee . It carries a hobbit that thinks the world revolves around him.
have you guys ever reviewed JP Wisers 18?
