    Too often last season we lost points against teams that, on paper, we should beat, so I see this result as a MASSIVE positive and a great start to the season. HWTL

    Fabs is very much a Newcastle ‘fan’ as well as a player. He’s bought in to the whole ethos of the Toon and sees himself as one of us. He’s invested on the area. This has brought out a very passionate and committed player. A double edged sword, though. He takes affronts personally as a ‘Geordie’. He could have been all sly and Swiss in his reaction . But he wasn’t. He was all Geordie.
    I disagree with the whole ‘deserve” to win thing. We bloody deserved to win. Saints weren’t unlucky - they were thwarted by committed effort and tenacity. An organised defence. Nowt to do with luck.

    Amazing that there’s so little comment about Isak’s inch perfect pass for the goal. The way he picked out JoeLinton and coolly threaded it between defenders showed great composure. The guy is pure class.

      I agree , he is the only player in our squad who would see and execute that pass from that position and at that pace … he was also absolutely quality defensively and positional wise too . We’ll see far more eye catching performances from him in an attacking sense but as a team player I thought he was immense on Saturday

      I don’t believe Gordon has had his “head turned” .. but he can’t go from badge kissing and shirt grabbing to grumpy at not getting a move . He’d rightly become a hate fighter if that were the case. I prefer to think he had an off game by his standards

    On the transfer window....... I feel the windows will be successful IF we manage to keep hold of our key players. We know injuries played a significant role in our performance last season, so I am happy with adding quality squad players that will add overall depth.
    I am not CONVICED we need to strengthen the RW unless a no-brainer deal becomes available. Bang on Miggy if you wish, but let's face facts. He was part of a team that were the 3rd (?) top goal scores in the league. This is in a team that saw extended injuries to Wilson, Isak, Barnes and Murphy. This meant our front line was rarely 100%, and players were unable to be rested/rotated during those absences.
    I say let's hold judgement on Miggy & Murphy until they have a run in a team that's not running on empty.
    Our downfall last season was in our defensive strength, so it makes sense that we are prioritizing a CB, both for now and the future as others age out.
    Osula is a smart purchase. We won't get a (2nd) striker to replace Wilson's quality, so a young/hungry lad with potential can grow immensely under the tutelage of Eddie/Isak/Wilson.

    Immense team spirit and gritty defending to get the win. Red card, hmm, Fabs didn't nut the hairy caveman, the 2 players put their heads together (gently) If anything Diaz went in first. Either send both off or play on. Great discussion, thank you!

    Even before the red card we let Southampton have ball possession. Reminded me too much of Steve Bruce tactics.
    It seems that Eddie Howe wants us to play only on counter attacks.
    Towards the end of the game it was really annoying that we continued to play all out attack on the counter instead of trying to keep the ball.
    Our first full season I really liked that it was a mix of ball possession and counterattack.

    Schar's foul is red in the same way going 56 in a 55 is a speeding ticket. Technically, sure, but in reality, we all know its an asshole move to give the ticket.

    Don’t get me wrong, really happy with the result (and thought the sending off was ridiculous), but we were poor - after AND before the sending off. I put it down to start of the season nerves, lack of match sharpness, etc. but to say we were any good is way wide of the mark.
    Thought we could have offered more in the attacking third (Liverpool at home last season, anyone!?) I saw this in preseason, but we seem to be trying to master the low block. I do think this tactic is a useful string to have to our bow, and will be useful against certain teams and in certain situations (when players are tired, missing, etc.) Probably trying to learn lessons from last season.

    One of the biggest factors in the match was the referee allowing countless fouls in midfield that broke up any momentum or flow we had . Surely a yellow card for repeated foul play had to come for at least two of their players

  • @andyh323
    @andyh323 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    I don't think you understand the rule. It says in the rules something to the effect that there must be significant contact for a red card to be justified. They talked about this in 'Talk Sport' and decided that Schar should not have been sent off within the regulations. So if 'Talk Sport' decides it wasn't worthy of a sending off then surely it wasn't 🤣

    Just a view to be considered.......... with the quiet around the Guehi deal could it be that a fee has more or less been agreed, but the deal REJECTED until Palace get the signing of Maxence Lacroix replacement over the line?
    With little coming from our end to suggest we have walked away from the deal I would not be surprised if this was just another case of smoke & mirrors from Eddie and the recruitment team.
    Or.... perhaps another CB will be announced as signed tomorrow....... 🙂

  • @leechefski
    @leechefski 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    We would've lost this game last season, against plucky underdogs, like we did Forest, Luton, etc. For Schar's red, Pawson was half a pitch away on the halfway line and nowhere near close enough to the incident to dish out a red card as quickly as he did. He was conned by Brereton Diaz, whose rugby tackle into Schar's back with the ball not in play was more dangerous than kissing foreheads. In hindsight, Schar should've gone down and feigned a spinal injury. It's not like it wouldn't have been believable, given the way Southampton players were steaming into our lads at every opportunity.
