SOMERSET, ENGLAND ROAD TRIP◆ UK TRAVEL VLOG ◆ Wells Cathedral, Cheddar Gorge, Clarks Village, & More

- [Filmed October 26, 2020] PLEASE NOTE: Somerset was in Tier 1 on the date that this video was filmed (Bristol was in Tier 2), and we had traveled from another Tier 1 area. All of the UK’s hands-face-space guidelines were followed, and Derek and I strictly adhered to all local rules and regulations.
Shopping! Cathedrals! Nature! OH MY!
Today’s vlog is PACKED with something for everyone!
As our plans to head north in the UK started to unfold, we realized how important it would be to buy a few new clothing items for a more rural trip. We (mostly me) had packed for our typical trips to the UK, which included more upscale casual clothes. However, I had started to realize we’d need a few more hiking-specific items given how rural and rainy our trip was going to get due to shifting plans to accommodate pandemic changes!
So, we headed to a UK outlet mall for the first time in our lives and shared a bit of our outlet haul!
After outfitting ourselves at Clarks Village, we drove further into the county of Somerset in England to see some sites!
We next visited Wells Cathedral in “England’s Smallest City” of Wells. Beautiful!
Then, we hurried to the Cheddar Gorge region to see some beautiful nature! Wish we had more time there, because it was stunning!
We ended our day by checking into our AirBNB in Bristol, England, and walking to a nearby delicious fine dining restaurant. One of our favorite meals of our trip, and definitely my favorite cocktail!

Cheddar Gorge. I remember chatting about that area. We noted the elderly people sign when we were in Wales in 2011. We reenacted it as well.

Somerset and Bristol are great UK destinations that we've been. Highly recommended. When you get to Bristol , check out Bristol Cathedral, King Street , St Nicholas Market and not to mention Clifton Suspension Bridge with great views. It has a history. You guys have done a nice vlog here and its's only getting better. Wish you lots of success on your channel 😍😍 from Harriet and Jim Richmond, Va.
Can you believe we didn't get to the Clifton Suspension Bridge during our time in Bristol!?! That was one of our top sites we wanted to see! Such a bummer, but we promised ourselves we'd go back. Was the Barber Shop sign at 8:26 upside down?! Wells is so 'cute' and 'quaint'. ;) But really, it's just what you see in your head when someone mentions an English village. I loved the moat, and everything else! But that Wells Cathedral... just wow... No matter how many times I watch your UK videos, I always have a half-second of panic when you go to take a left at a roundabout. LOL
Haha, after I've been editing a UK vlog for a while, I have to be very conscious about which side of the road I drive on when I go on errands here in the US! LOL! And yes it was upside down, so random!

Speaking of getting outfitted, we were in the lake district and I went to a Mountain Warehouse and got so many things! I literally was wearing that brand from head to toe! Hiking boots, hiking socks, waterproof trousers, waterproof jacket, etc.😂
I think I've seen you chat about that on your channel, and that your magenta coat is from Mountain Warehouse! We had never heard of it until we went to Clarks Village, but then we ended up seeing other Mountain Warehouses the rest of our trip in places like the Lake District, Scotland, and York! Definitely a great UK chain.

I'd never heard of Cheddar Gorge until a British friend suggested it as a place to visit, I associate the word 'cheddar' with cheese! I did visit and I'm pretty sure we parked in the same spot you did and then walked into the gorge late in the afternoon when most people had left so it wasn't very crowded.
Oh that's awesome! I hope you got to go when there was still daylight. I MUST go back and spend a full day! Definitely nice, though, not to have to search around very hard for parking 😅

I literally can’t imagine having the wherewithal to tell someone that their adjectives aren’t correct, when adjectives are the only optional and subjective words that one can use in a sentence. Ohhhh, Brits!!!
@@MeansToTravel I have been told I’m not allowed to say cute or quaint. I have attempted to convince people that they are being way too uptight, and they need to understand the intent behind why is someone is saying something. For some reason English people consider it condescending, when actually the Americans using these adjectives are completely enamoured. It really is rather ridiculous! But I just got sick of being scolded!!
@@MagentaOtterTravels LOL if they're telling you that your word choice (which was used in a kind and appreciating way and is extremely common in our culture) was incorrect based on their sensibilities, then the funny thing is that they're the ones being condescending by definition, as they are assuming that their word preferences are the most superior and we should change our American vernacular to accommodate them.
I adore British people and Great Britain, but I'll admit that a handful of the ones I've encountered on the internet have a tendency to not notice their own biases.

Maybe that commenter was secretly hopeful that the term "Brit" will slowly go away like the term "Yank" did, which unfortunately some British people didn't get the memo about despite Americans not using the word these days.
Well thanks for complementing the cathedral but when you have been round it as much I have you get tired and I just want to say the names of all the places you have driven through like the macdonalds in street is my fav restaurant and be careful if you ever go back don't speak don't loud because you can ask 100 British people from Somerset if they like Americans 99 of them will say no
