Memories of Avalon are.cherished o much,I feel like I'm there again. With this filming visiting the island all over again, I just want to run off to Luau Larry's and have a wicki wacki and get a straw hat, but I've ordered a t shirt via the internet from Luau Larry's even though I'm living now in Mountain View CA, I love hearing the chime tower sound off every half hour.

Missing the holiday season! I wish I could be there now.
I spent my childhood summers here in the 70's. My fondest memories are there and soon, now in my 50's, I am planning a trip with my husband and hopefully my son. It will be a 1st time to so-cal for them. We, mom dad and I would load our 30' sailboat with provisions on Friday night and sometimes if it was a full moon weekend we would set sail after dark and the moon was a beautiful beacon out there. We would arrive about dawn because a yacht of this size at night would be mostly crossing the 26 miles on engine power alone it can take up 7 hours to get there. We also, would catch a shore boat first thing and head straight for the Pancake Cottage when even back then there was a line. French toast was my go-to. It's too bad you the food was sub-par for you. There is a fine dining restaurant down by the last street of the promenade back then it was called Scarri's Italian seafood now I believe it's known as the El Portofino. If you get back there save room for the best dessert a pc . of grasshopper pie. If they still serve it which they absolutely must or I will be very disappointed.. There was a bar upstairs with a jukebox and a dance floor and it was my job to put the coins in and play the tunes mostly Tie a Yellow Ribbon round the ole oak tree, that was mom and dad's favorite song. Sometimes we would go t the Casino and see the movie once it was Smokey and the Bandit. One last share for your other subscribers there is a bench stationed between the boardwalk and the service road about half way to the Casino it is known as Annie's Bench and my girlfriend and I carved our initials in hearts when we were about 8yrs. old I wonder if it's still there. Oh and the perfectly aligned boats in the harbor are moored a permanent anchoring point that is attached at the bow and the stern(rear) of your vessel. These moorings are owned by regulars they are hard to come like trying to get a liquor license. Anyway I have many more stories to tell but I 've indulged myself enough I hope you and others have enjoyed the nostalgic tales of 50 years ago. Once upon a time long ago...
I also spent part of my summers on Catalina and it was the best time. They had two arcades and we'd play pinball all day for 5 cents a game. -WMM
Also, don't wear black - you'll get over heated real quick since you are outdoors.most of the time, wear light colored yellows and whites with gold and you'll be fine traveling about Avalon.

Instead of walking perhaps you could put a gopro on your helmet & ride a segway, or one of those electric uniwheels. Either way I love the content, & especially Catalina which is probable the best place to live in the U.S.
Next time I'm going to rent a golf cart, as many people do, and mount the camera to it. -WMM
