  • Growing up in the back of one of these was a great experience... was it safe? No... but still riding around in a moving playground was something kids today won't experience... The rear facing back seat... Regulations wouldn't let you have a table in the back of your SUV... but it's so cool...

The full-size 1961 Chevrolet with the Impala/Nomad trim is one of the most beautiful Chevrolets of all time!

It was interesting to me that the Lakewood wagon had a substantialy wider rear opening and cargo floor.

The complete line of engines included a 348 V8 engine and Turboglide--which my brother-in-law owned (and suffered through) for several years while raising two young sons. As soon as possible, he said goodbye to the Parkwood and hello to a six-cylinder '66 Bel Air 4-door sedan!

My paperboy district manager had a 61 Chevy Nomad wagon in a fawn color. At 13 years old, that car caught my eye. I have always liked wagons. At 76, Ivdrive a Buick TourX wagon and I own an 84 Olds Custom Cruiser wagon that I b restored and showed this weekend at the Sacramento Autorama, earning class award.

Third row lookout lounge. Lol. I restored and drove a 61 nine passenger Parkwood for a few years. Found that it was very hard to find parts for it from outside the USA compared to other body styles I have done.

yeah and the big Chryslers had a cubby in between the 2nd and third row seat back.. safest place in the car.

For decades, the convertible and sport coupe models were the only two body styles that were collectible. Station wagons were considered workhorses that were driven into the ground and then scrapped, unloved.

The Corvair Lakewood had the potential to be an ideal dog owner's car. With the dogs in the wayback and the groceries in the frunk, you still have the back seat for human passengers.

The Greenbrier passenger van is labled as a truck. Based on the Corvair 95 or Corovan aka Corvair Van. The Lakewood wagon was direct competition to the recently introduced Volkswagen Type 2 square back wagon.
