    Beautiful Dodge car, happy wife and love those rocket exhaust taillights. Let's buy one! In 1959 the average US car price was $2200. The Dodge Coronet Lancer (seen) was $3000. This well dressed couple, and he looks like an executive manager type with a good paying job could very well afford the upgrade. Super nice tu-tone car by the way. I like it!

    My Dad would take us on all day Sunday drives in the NW and Canada in the early ‘60’s. All that 1950’s brightwork and front grill would accumulate smashed buds hard to remove. WE would get home and our car would be ticking from the heat coming off the engine cooking the smashed bugs.

    Bill needs to do his brother-in-law Frank a favor, and see if the aftermarket can supply those bonded brake shoes for his “other make!” 😂

      thats 300$ a brake job... every 10k miles... that GM brake job wasn't cheap

      @nlpnt 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Not that he'd have kept it. Three years and 30k miles was about as long as a man in Frank's position would keep a car in the '50s.

    Dual power radio antennas mounted at the tail fins is available for 1959 Dodge Royal Lancer. V-8 is standard and this feature is available on convertibles, 2 door hardtop, and even 4 door hardtop.

    .....It seems totally ridiculous that an official Dodge film could contain a upper medium-price car whose appearance seems very nice until you see the grossly misaligned drivers door and LR door....that driver's door stick out like a sore thumb and makes you wonder what other assembly deficencies were simply ignored and car shipped out....

    • @autochronicles8667

      these films were "dealer" only, not for general consumption. So the salesman could sell the "fine" points :) I also think they probably used very early builds or even prototype cars because these were usually filmed a year ahead of the car release(for example pre nov 1958). That front drivers door is pretty far gapped at the bottom... sticks pretty far out!

    Does everything need to be (badly) colorized ?

    • @autochronicles8667
      @autochronicles8667  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think i can find a better colorizer. These videos don't get so many hits it's worth it to do in BW and Color.

    You live in a house like that and you're concerned about $30 to reline your brakes?

    The '58 Chrysler's were ahead of the Game back then
    DeSoto with tasteful elegant tail fins
    So the '59s must have been spectacular

      Yeah
      I remember thinking 🤔
      whatever that car was (now I know it was a DeSoto) was one of the nicest cars from the 50s

      Our next-door neighbors had a '59 DeSoto. My parents had a '58 Oldsmobile. I remember as a little boy back then going for a ride in their DeSoto and thinking how much more advanced their car was over ours. It looked like a jet.

      My old man had a '60 Plymouth. Couldn't see out the back 3/4 view when parking due to those huge tail fins. Whatta bummer.

    Oh my gosh, this guy was upset because his tab was over 30 dollars. Looking at these just reminds us of a much better time in the world. I didnt come along until 1961 so I got to see a little bit of it but I just said to myself, I wish I would have lived in the fifties. People were raised to have manners and not so aggressive. They were taught common sense. Much kinder because most of us had christian values. Where is all this today. If this video would have been done today, Bill would have been upset because his tab was over 3000.00.

      Actually, those brake jobs in today's money would be 300$ a piece! so 1000$ in 2024 money... that is crazy expensive, and those rivets did cut into the brake lining life... not sure about how much but they did. I think they exaggerate a bit though...

    Don't kid yourself, Fred couldn't afford that DODGE! Truth be told, he had to keep his old clunker with the bad brakes. As for Helen, well all she got to do was sit in the Dodge and day dream about things that will never be! I think Fred eventually traded his old clunker for a Used Rambler! (was all the old popper could afford)
