65 & 72 Wildcard
Are boards designed for lighter riders to be able to make turns like heavier riders on bigger boards. They are extremely light and easy to control even in stormy conditions.
78 & 82
Are designed by Mark Stone. They cover the biggest range we’ve ever seen on low volume wave boards. While you’ll love the performance on less windy days or less powerful waves, we didn’t give away any versatility. Performing radical turns and controlling higher jumps will be easier.
86, 93 & 100
Are ultra-compact boards that provide enough stability for slightly heavier riders or less windy days. Thanks to an overall length of only 218cm you’ll be astonished by its control, even on the windiest of days. Thin rails and a slight tail kick make your tight turns as easy as possible. By positioning the V on the centre, the board will give you plenty of speed through the chop.

I agree it looks nice and I'm sure it is very light. But I am a bit surprised that Starboard shouts 'lightest ever' in their marketing when they must know they have a reputation for building just about the least robust boards of all the brands. I've seen so many examples of (modern) Starboards delaminating within 4-5 years with normal use and have experienced it on 1 Carve and 2 Futuras myself. I think this is caused by not using enough resin to fully saturate the fabric everywhere and ensure a good bond to the sandwich, probably because of the pressure from marketing to minimize the weight. I know many people who will never buy a Starboard again for this reason, myself included. It would make more sense if Starboard would use it's powerfull marketing-machine to educate the customers that a 500 grams heavier board has a negligible impact on real-life performance but can make a significant difference for the durability, and therefore sustainability of the board. 1% failure-rate (within warranty period) is not exactly a score to be proud of.
Totally agree, i exeprienced same problem in my Carve 18. I’m upset, the board got deslaminated with normal use. Thin pvc, no reinforcements and so on…
Thanks, Ron. The reputation and reality may differ sometimes. For the past that may be accurate as the manufacturing process in the factory has caused problems delamination in our effort to build more eco friendly boards. Those years are typically the ones that people refer to. Of course, whoever had one of those issues was handled as a warranty to get the board replaced. Obviosuly that is the case with any new board you are experiencing delamination or similar problems with. From those times Starboard have learned and worked on tougher constructions. The goal is always to make light and sturdy boards. Feedback has shown, that 500g is not something people are willing to sacrifice. As you saw, the Carbon Reflex Sandwich Waveboards have a warranty rate of about 0.7%. I'm not sure how familiar you are with warranty rates in the windsurfing industry, but this is likely the best you can find. Team riders who jump crazy maneuvers like high stalled forwards or double loops are accounted for in that number.
In conclusion, we hope that in the future we can proof to you that Starboard have listened to countless feedbacks regarding the construction and went on to build tougher construction. All the best :-)

The construction used at starboard definitely isn’t
Its not hard to build boards light…. Maybe a few hundred grams with better workmanship and better materials
Easier is using less material which leads to a short lifespan
The sandwich thickness is about half of that what other use
PET core has way worse characteristics than pvc or SAN
Unidirectional carbon cant be used as a single layer only and putting a 100gr/m2 glas under the hardform doesn‘t make it a sandwich
But the design is nice;)

Hi Leon, correct. Therefore the construction in question was both strong and bult with more eco friendly materials. So basically a win-win. Our construction tests are quite intense with several hundreds of hours of sailing with heavy guys.
The problem was the factory that couldn't apply it to production so it ended up delaminating making it a not so eco friendly project.
For the Carbon Reflex Sandwich board theres a third factor that we need to keep in mind, which is the price. So we feel very comfortable that the current Carbon Reflex Sandwich is a great mix of durability, weight and price. ...and design apparently 😉
Now the day no one making small board , such small then 70L windsurfing board for small riders or ladies riders anymore! So sadly! I am 102 Lbs small rider, short legs ... I have hard time to find right board for me to ride in small wave, I wish Starboard let me try this board, but our local dealer doesn’t carry this 2022 65L wave board! 😰
Whoever wrote the copy for the voice over for this video must have typed shallow tail instead of swallow tail. 😂
