thanks gabriella for praising and showing love for sanskrit .your attitude is not partial .being an indian i have an elementary knowledge of sanskrit and currently i am learning it in detail .i am already fluent in three languages bengali ,hindi and english and after sanskrit dravidian languagers are my target.
a wonderful thing about sanskrit is that its words are so perfect that pronouncing them is equal to exercise of brain.
your videos show that u have gained tremendous knowledge . now what will be your next step!

When I started to study Sanskrit at the age of 60, I thought that it would just be a grand intellectual indulgence. I've always been interested in languages and I thought that Sanskrit would be a great hobby to entertain me in my old age. I didn't think that it would bring practical, medical and spiritual benefits, too. As soon as I started to read the Bhagavad Gita, I found that it resonated deeply with my respect for life and made more sense than anything which I had read before. I also found that the peace and serenity, which it brought were of great practical value in helping me to keep my fibromyalgia under control. So, it is just wonderful to hear your words about taking up Sanskrit from such a young age and how it brings you peace and joy. The philosophy expounded in Sanskrit literature fits together so perfectly.

@@santoshkumarappala6681 I mainly use a book called Introduction to Sanskrit by Thomas Egenes. It is in two volumes. It is written in very clear English. I also study the Bhagavad Gita. I use the Chinmaya Mission edition in 17 volumes by Swami Chinmayananda. I use this edition for purely linguistic reasons. It is laid out in a manner, which is very helpful to a beginner in Sanskrit. I supplement these studies with material on the Facebook group Sanskrit Learning Group, which you will find here facebook.com/groups/Samaskritham/
I also find the books in the Enjoyable Sanskrit Grammar series and grammatical analyses of the Bhagavad Gita by Medha Michika very helpful. You will find them here gita-grammar.blogspot.com/p/books-already-released-1.html

We Indians can count on Europeans like you more than ourselves to keep our own culture alive. The language is dying a slow painful death back home because if we try and make it mandatory, pseudo-secularists will throw a hissy fit. Nobody realizes how important this language is. People are more interested in learning French, Spanish and German and when asked to learn languages like Sanskrit, they simply say, "What's the use of it?" Thank you for taking this ancient language global. Love from India.

Don't worry it will not die, I can guarantee that. What we really need to do is that we have to first master this great language individually and then spread it to mankind through the internet. There are very few sources on the internet, so we have to work for it. If you really want it to be saved from extinction then first lean it yourself. Make it a personal goal.

Sanskrit helps a lot the children having speech disabilities including stammering. It helps holistically in eradication of many diseases . In the overall interests of mankind every child must be taught Sanskrit from age of one to seven years. Then the language and its benefits stay and further can be strengthened from 7 to 14 years. Unfortunately, biggest loss is in India to this Dev Bhasha and to Indians themselves. May You be blessed with Prabhu Kripa.

Amazing for me to hear this. many years ago I learned my first mantras and soaked up each sound and meaning like a blotter the ink. Ever since I have loved the sound of it and the mystery of the multi-level meanings it seems to have. I never got around to actually studying formally, but I continue to learn vocabulary and to sound prayers and text after examples. And your pronunciation is so slow and clear that I am learning in a satisfying manner. I experience what you experience in a small way - Sanskrit makes me happy deep down inside. It feels like the true language of the soul and I want more and more to have all my prayer be in Sanskrit, for only then does it feel pure and free from error.

Hello from Madrid in autumn! Thank you for sharing this video. It is great to hear (by 0:37) that you started studying Sanskrit at such an early age because you felt that its sound cleansed your soul. I had a similar experience with Latin, the sound of which seemed to me so majestic, solemn, noble, and elegant, that I asked my father to teach me Latin… when I was 8 years old. Then my father said that I would have plenty of time for learning it, so I chose Latin as soon as I could in the high-school, and later I got a PhD in Classics. But, while my degree studies in Classics, I also felt strongly attracted to Sanskrit, and not only because of the philosophy and literature that are written in it, but because its sound suggested to me contemplation and ecstasy (I could not say whether it cleansed my soul; perhaps it was doing so, without me being aware of it). There was no such specialty as Indology in Spanish universities, but at least a one-year course in Sanskrit was offered, which I chose. Thereafter I could not continue with it; I missed it a lot, and after a lot of years I took advantage of a period of unemployment for reviewing the whole grammar on my own and start looking for texts about myths I was interested in, and translating them… and here I am, devoting roughly one hour per day to Sanskrit.

Thank you, Miss Gabriella, for the beautiful videos! Your voice is lovely & heart-warming!
For many years, I was under the (obviously mistaken) impression that Sanskrit was now just a written language, that we could only assume it was once spoken, but that we have no idea how it was pronounced. In the U S, maybe the West at large, that seemed to be the generally held opinion. So when A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada published a Sanskrit pronunciation guide, I thought he must be guessing.
Recently, I met an Indian gentleman who told me that Sanskrit was now being utilized in some manner, at least in India, in the IT field. I'm not sure if it's correct to say as a 'computer language,' but he seemed to be implying something of the sort.
King Ashurbanipal (740-681 BC) of Assyria, grandson of King Sennacherib, said he could "read the language from before the flood," that catastrophic event of 13,000 years ago for which we now have firm geologic evidence, at the end of the last Great Ice Age.
Recently, linguists have acknowledged Sumerian as the root of all human languages, extant & otherwise, including Chinese. All except for one: Sanskrit. The Sumerian culture, & it's satellite civilization, Akkad, flourished from about 6,000 to 4,000 BC, & ended due to a terrible mistake somewhat over 5,000 years ago. The fanciful, abridged version of the story is in the Old Testament. (FYI: In the area where the Biblical cities Sodom & Gomorrah were located, the 'background count,' or radioactive isotope level, is far higher than is possible without a nuclear event having occurred there sometime in the past.)
We know that the Indian subcontinent contains the oldest extant civilization on Earth, older indeed than Sumer itself. So when someone said in one of your comment sections that "Sanskrit is the language of the gods," they may be precisely correct. Because Ashurbanipal was referencing some tablets in the great library at Ninevah inscribed w/language from before the flood of 13,000 yrs ago, long before there was a Sumerian culture. This was indeed the *language of the gods," the very 'gods' who gave language to human beings; who are, in fact, responsible for the existence of human beings.
Dr Arthur C Clarke once said, "Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." And I'll leave you with that.
Again, thank you so much for your beautiful work!

We home educate our son and he uses the "Sanskrit is Fun" program (the same that is used at Saint James in London),in addition to other Sanskrit resources online to help with his pronunciation. We are looking forward to him finally being able to read and understand the great Indian classics in the original language. He is already studying ancient Greek and Latin,in addition to being fluent in his mother's language, and that has helped him magnanimously to grasp Sanskrit with relative ease since his mother's language is also a highly inflected Asian language.

    • @ivarhakuse8572
      @ivarhakuse8572 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

shishir kumar Remember an exception here or there do not constitute the rule. Of course your friends should be patted on the head for relinking with what is after all their own historical, cultural heritage. And by doing so, they are only doing themselves a favor, not to you or others.
The fact of your friends being Muslim is of no consequence since all of their ancestors were Indian so why would that become an issue ? unless what you are implying is it is unusual since they tend to be self alienated from their own culture?
This fact of this pattern as universal not just Indian is evident in news reports from all around the world. Why did Denmark just ban burkha? What happened in France? The Uk, USA? Is everyone spreading false rumors based on personal experience? Well maybe they are and maybe it’s time to listen, think and talk honestly about bigotry in Islam and the mass genocide it perpetrated on your own countrymen for over a millenia.its not time to hate or hurt your friends but they might think otherwise. It’s time to sit , open Koran and discuss their deep religious teachings on true and false gods.
Interestingly you failed to mention your own level of indifference to your heritage, never mind, makes no iota of difference. With regard to tolerance and the more oft quoted intolerance, it was after all the allah’s apostle and Ali who were up all night breaking idols in the Kaaba not the meccan pagans. And it was the Meccans who fed up with listening to rants and insults decided to evict Muhammad. Why don’t you have a go at them? Oh I forgot, they no longer exist. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

Unfortunately your forefathers, Britishers, destroyed this language and rest of the destruction done by India's first PM Nehru. It is good that you are motivating others to learn Sanskrit. In India, if you talk about learning Sanskrit people (seculars, communist, muslims, christians) will label you as Hinduwala, Hinduvta force, Saffron terror etc. Please do your best to revive this language in Bharat.

It is your good luck that you understood the importance of Sanskrit language, then the original place of Sanskrit i.e. in India, where I live here, the people have forgotten the importance of Sanskrit language; Sanskrit is a divine language and who learns it and speaks of its intellect Development begins

My mother tongue is Tamil and in early days we received the closeness of Sanskrit to Tamil literature. I have listen some of mantras and they are really beautiful. Such beauty in literature takes us on par with Gregorian chants and Arabic reception of the Quran. God bless.

Gabriella, I've been interested in Sanskrit and it's children languages for sometime, mainly because it seems to be the language that gave birth also to mathematics. I reasoned that if I could teach myself to think in Sanskrit or one of the languages that descended from it, I could find answers to certain questions I had in mediation but who's answers seemed to defy English. In studying Punjabi and Hindi, I'm finding a new understanding of mathematics, but not what I was expecting. I'm starting to understand the spiritual side of it.
If you're open to conversation, I'm interested in what effects you feel the learning of Sanskrit has had on your understanding of the universe and your place in it. I still have many questions.
