In this video I shoot a Savage 110 Ultralite in 28 Nosler with the 180 gr Berger Hybrid. I also show a Tikka 270 Winchester with a 1in10 twist shooting a 170 gr Berger EOL bullet.
Hell yeah what he said, the 2nd day in the Kuskokwim Mountains deep in the Kisralik River I spotted and stalked a very big brownie with my nephew. I had my M70 243WCF backed by 85gr Partition bullets. We got within 25 yards downwind. It turned broadside and stopped along the riverbank. My nephew took aim with his ironsighted M70 in 270WCF backed with130gr Nosler Partition accuracy loads. I heard a crack, it dropped where it stood. Clean headshot and 0 bullet recovery! It Measured 251.60cm tall and 187.96cm wide with monster paws, rear ankle is 106.70cm around with impressive claws😮 who said the 270WCF is insufficient?
With my custom ironsighted m70 243WCF along with a QR scope mounts. I've got 0 in the mountains fear because I'm backed up by the 85gr Nosler Partition that I've developed over 30 years👍👍 The 243WCF has yet to disappoint.
Ive got alot of faith in the .270WCF's capabilities. Thats some impressive shooting and groups. Those are some accurate rifles. Id like to say id like to see you develop those loads and tighten the grouping😁👍👍 I just got back from the Kuskokwim Mountains via skiff and I just couldn't leave my M70 in 243WCF. I spotted a blkbear along the ridge munching on berries. I approached from above and downwind, I got within about 29 paces. I quickly downed a beer to ease my nerves. I took steady aim, slowly squeezed then dropped it where it stood in the big blueberry patch. Clean headshot 0 bullet recovery. The Male Blk Bear measured 203.2cm tall 182.88 wide with about 3 inches of fat put on. Mountain berryfed bear took us about 24hours to bring down from the mountain along with its hide. It was a very successful trip I used the 85gr Nosler Partition accuracy load, and has yet to let me down😁👍👍
Tikka always seem to have a fair amount of recoil. It looks like the 270 is thumping him more than that 28 Nosler. I put a Limb Saver on my Tikka 308 and that really mad a difference.
Thats my favorite rifle and caliber buddy! I put a magpul hunter stock on mine and it takes the 10 round 308 mags. serves as a tactical rifle as well, Luv it!
I have that same stock on my tikka 300wsm I love em can't beat a bell n carlson for the price when my 270wsm comes in I'm going to put the brown one on it
I have a 28 Nosler Browning MAX Range Hells Canyon, 1 in 8" twist 26" barrel. Using 175 grain ELDX over 78 grains Retumbo, COL 3.888, Win LR mag primers. I am able to get 1/2" to 1/4 " groups at 200 yds. I played with alot of seating depths, I'm about 4 thousands from the lands.Bullets barely fit in my mag.

For the 28 Nosler try US 869 , don’t get locked in to just one powder . I had very good luck with WC 860 and WC 872 ( almost identical burn rate to 869 in my 7 STW ( almost the same case capacity as the 28 Nosler ) ! Ball powder is easier on the throat than stick powder in these high capacity cartridges . I believe WBY is using 869 in there factory 6.5 x 300 ammo . The 270 is looking really good , with the 170 or 165 gr bullets it makes the 6.5 cred look pretty sad ! Thanks for your hard work for us !……. Also I had very good with 860 & 872 with the 7 Ultra , 869 would be perfect for that cartridge !……
I was a 6.5 fan boy but thanks to this guy and a few others I'm trying to open up to another caliber besides 6.5 or 30cal and have purchased a 270wsm and going to try my luck loading up some 170s just hope me being a sea level doesn't throw a wrench in it
Shooting groups and long range may be fun but I'm not sure how much groups matter for hunting. I sight in all my rifles by the cold bore shots because out in the field you are not going to get a chance to warm up your barrel before shooting at game, so it appears to me the first shot is what really counts for hunting.
🧐 And, that is Why you practice, to know How your point of impact changes as your environmental conditions change! And, it will change with temperature changes, depending upon what powder you are using! Thus, it is important to know How and if you reload, to pick a temperature stable powder that you can load to near case capacity! Why? Because, if your standard deviations in velocities between shots are tight, then your point of impact will be more consistent - shot to shot! 🤔 And, even if you get only one shot, you will understand where your rifle is likely to hit, based upon the current environmental factors (because, the barrel harmonicas will change, with environmental changes)! So, You Just Have Know Your Rifle! 👨🏫 But, Most People Don't! 🙄
Just curious with your testing and others in TH-cam will they start making factory ammo in the 160 to 170 range for the 270 that is neat that this is working well . Opens a ton of doors for a old fuddy cartridge
I have a Savage Ultralight that I couldn’t get to shoot. I put it in an mdt lss chassis thinking the stock was the problem. 8 different types of ammo later and I saw no difference. I tried Remington Premier Scirocco and finally got good groups. Mine is in 300wsm. The scirocco looks like it should have excessive jump to the lands compared to other ammo.
@@ReloadingWeatherby I am getting 3 hole clover leafs at 100 yards and right at an inch at 200 yards. This is the best I have done with the rifle so far. I have learned that this rifle is also very sensitive to barrel heat causing stringing.
Even in the hands of an expert marksman… a 1” group out of a 28NOS in an ultralight hunting rifle… is excellent!!! Honestly… if group size is priority mount that sucker in a heavy competition style chassis or go with a lighter recoiling cartridge like 7mm-08 right?
@@ReloadingWeatherby Love the hammer bullets, But at that speed is it going to be a barrel eater. If you used it for a hunting only, It would probably last a lifetime. But any real amount of shooting. I think the barrel would go away very quickly
