Why I'd Buy This Skoda Octavia VRS Over a Golf GTi

- The mark 5 Golf GTi is so common I'm getting a bit bored of them. But this Skoda Octavia VRS offers a similar drive in a sedan body with a manual gearbox, and I think it's brilliant!

Great review mate, that looks like a good shout for a fun and practical car.
I always find your vids are good at conveying what car people love, which is the pure joy of driving!
Thanks man!
as a SKODA COUNTRY citizen i'd agree with the interior quality, same with anything else based on the mk5 platform (leon, touran etc), just feels insanely cheap compared to the mk4 platform cars such as the golf or mk1 octy. would be super cool to see you review a mk1 vrs, but i could imagine that would be quite hard since afaik those weren't officially imported to NZ. anyways, super cool seeing a czech 18 teen's dream first car on the other side of the globe haha, awesome vid as always!
Thanks man! Yeah it’s very good except the interior haha
Would love to see you review a 4age powered car and see what your opinions are on that, like an ae111 or older!
keep up the great work on this channel!
Thanks yeah maybe at some point
Haha do a series, "what if you want a golf but"
You want a sedan
You want a SUV
You want to be cool
lol that could be quite cool
not many skodas on youtube , specially VRS ! thank you ! in CIS countries every owner must install stage 1 2 and 3
All good!
These are similar to the jetta which you can get with the 2.0 fsi turbo, basically a mk5 golf sedan. But those are pretty rare in nz
I think I prefer this the Jetta is quite bland looking like the golf this is at least sorta interesting
These always remind me of the Clarkson segment on thr Toyota corolla where he walks past a line-up of white fridges looking for the corolla. All Euro from the era are great on the highway but become maintenance PITA after 150k - i really liked the Peugeot 408 we had once, very nice to drive, looked quirky; made from hardened cheese by the same engineers who design vacuum cleaners, financially unserviceable by age 10.
I’m sorry but a Peugeot 408 is nothing compared with this haha. French cars are some of the most unreliable cars on the planet! At least the issues with these vag engines are well documented and parts are commonplace
_”slightly more ugly😂”_ …. _another great review on something different!_
Thanks man and yeah it’s kinda ugly but in a cool way I reckon
Great family performance cars but I would go for the facelift
Yeah tbh so would I
Need to get a Forester xt on here😮
Hmm maybe one day just need to find someone with one in nz
What did you think of JuicyFest? I saw that there was a festival with T.I and Ashanti performing in NZ
Didn’t go but my gf did and she said it was good
@@KiwiCarLife Niceee, I live in London and looked at flights and said.... Nope, no chance. Keep up the videos, I like the 0-60 segments BTW
Hey bro where is that road? Taupo?
Auckland
Brother had a limited edition one and he loved it but always said the km/per L was horrible for a car that takes 95/98
Oh really? Mk5 GTi’s are more than capable of getting 8L/100km. What did he average?
Hence why I prefer NA engines. The need for 98, carbon build-up in the inlets, and poor fuel economy with turbo lagg.
70k round trip no traffic night driving I can coast along on 6.8L/100km or drive spiritedly and get 9.4L. Turbos are fun but they're a costly compromise (no substitute for cubes).
13.5L was the average @@KiwiCarLife
@@jezzalowe5121 that’s horrendous! How hard were you driving it haha my 130i does 10!
@@KiwiCarLife was my brothers driving. but yeah wouldn't surprise me he drives a little scary lol
What would be the reason to go for this, over a CL9. I dont see it. I know you want to expand the channel a bit and feature more cars but... a bit more critcism would've been warranted.
Compared to a CL9 it has a inferior suspension geometry (strut vs. double wishbone), the interior is worse quality, it has a timing belt (instead of a chain) and it has direct injection of the variety that will carbon up the intakes regularly. And these are not cheap where I live, they cost the same as CL9's, models with less than 100.000 miles even more expensive. And I dont see any for sale with over 180k, meaning that's probably the life expectancy of the engine. The facelifted wagon looks pretty good of these, but if I wanted a euro estate, i'd go with a volvo. The 5 cylinders also are much more sonorous than these.
Fair enough, there’s a lot of cars out there that are much better than the CL9. This is definitely a better drive and more features. The suspension geometry is kinda irrelevant to most people buying these. But agree with any euro you’re gonna be dealing with maintenance and reliability issues
@@KiwiCarLife No doubt, I have the wagon version (CM2) and I think i'm getting too old for the PLM headered K24 rasping aloud. i'm probably going to save up for an FK8 Type-R. FK2 Type-R just doesn't seem worth it, given it has a torsion beam rear-end. And they're still asking 30 grand for them. I'm seeing FK8's for 35-40. It's almost a no-brainer at that point. Prices in euro's ofc.
@@The_Noticer. I dunno why people get so hung up on suspension geometry, coz an FK2 will still handle much better than your CM2 haha. Like sure double wishbone is good, but there’s a lot of very good handling cars out there with strut or beam suspension. It’s not the end of the world
@@KiwiCarLife The CM2 has a lot of body flex so no doubt. Even my parents' FN2 (1.8 base model) is dartier. Still, given the price difference here in NL, i'd pay 5 grand extra to have indepedent rear suspension. I think the FK8 also has a stiffer body construction.
Hell yes to Volvo - same expensive parts and labour but you still see 20 yo volvos putting around, whereas any VAG whitegoods product you can't find after 15 years unless they've been babied in a shed.
