I am incredibly proud of this short film that my friends and I made on a £0 budget. The film was an exercise in how light can tell a story; from harbouring deception to revealing truth. The imagery is largely inspired by Frank Miller and Conrad Hall's works.
We filmed it in 2 days in the freezing cold down an alley that I fell in love with in Stirling. The shoot went incredibly smoothly, as every single shot was choreographed and storyboarded beforehand. The only hiccups was ensuring our Gàidhlig was 100%. It took me 3 weeks to edit in post which was a hugely stressful deadline to meet, as I also set myself the challenge of composing an original soundtrack for it, most of what you hear having been made in one evening. The title was also a last minute epiphany that was fun to pull off and that I am very proud of. That title was then edited onto a Lino Print I made as concept art for the film.
My girlfriend and I also fully reconstructed the sound with foley and (regrettably) a complete re-dubbing as the sound quality on location was dreadful due to an AC unit overhead. Next investment is to scrap the radio mics that ruffle too much during the talent's movements and invest in a shotgun or boom type mic.
There were hundreds of invisible effects such as wire removals, performance retiming, masking masking masking. Although the primary gaol is to always capture as much of what you see as the final product in camera, the power of modern editing techniques allow for much more flexibility when shooting guerrilla with continuity.
There is a lot I would change, but it's knowledge I will carry forwards into my next projects.
