    Great video demonstrating how exactly locking system of French door works. Thanks for sharing the informative clipping.

    This is a nice clip and explanation. I have found this setup at Lowe's but only for an exterior french door. I was hoping to find something similarly elegant for an interior master bedroom door. They are telling me interior doors are too thin to do this, so the only option is one locking/fixed door and one moving door where the fixed door can be opened but is fixed in place by manually sliding latching pins into upper door frame and floor, by levers at the top and at the bottom on the fixed door, and then the moving door just locks into that fixed door like a normal single door would lock into a single door frame. I'd just like both to open via the door handles. Any solutions are appreciated.

      Hello for most Track and Spec homes you do get 1-3/8” doors for your interior. Move up to Custom built homes and you can have 1-3/4” for your interiors and 2-1/4” - 3” for your exteriors... In your case just change out your 1-3/8” doors for 1-3/4”... You will have to alter or replace the Jamb as the door stop will need to be moved and the hinge pockets routed out for a larger hinge (4”, 4-1/2”).adding a center hinge as well for durability... What term can someone search for to find these at Lowes?

    • @ChaimS
      @ChaimS ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Greg- It may be easy to say, "just get a thicker door" but that can literally cost over $1,000 or at least very close to it, which is not very practical for most people who already have doors that work and just want locks.

    Very well made video, pretty short and sweet like they should be. I noticed that you lifted up handle, and the little hooks came out. I assume the lock deadbolt mechanism requires you lift the handle and then lock it. I think you can add a callout for clarification at that part, other than that nice thx.

    But it's not secure if someone breaks the glass and opens the dead bolt! Don't you need a dead bolt that is closed with a key for the inside in order to be a bigger deterrent to a burglar?

    • @mirola73
      @mirola73 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lianda Ludwig A thumb turn makes it easier, but a key operated lock won't slow burglars down much either as they've broken the glass already. Security glass will not shatter like normal glass, it 'crumbles'. So there's a hole already and it's easily widened and presto a hole to crawl through.

      @susieq1699 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lianda Ludwig A deadbolt becomes a hazard in the event of a fire. You don't want to be trapped inside. If a burglar really wants in, he'll go through a window.

      Susie Q lol in the event of a fire can't you break the window too? Sorry just playing devil's advocate

    • @susieq1699
      @susieq1699 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Jarod. But the door will still be dead bolted closed.

    • @jaredhammonds8255
      @jaredhammonds8255 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol yes but it's a very big window and easy to break. You can fit a whole person in there. As nice as French doors are, they are also very easy to break. Even with the dead bolt. If it's security people want, French doors are a poor choice.

    What is the term for the door locking system on the left door; if I want to keep that door locked and just use the other ( right) door most of the time for entry & exit from a room.

    • @gregorylondos534
      @gregorylondos534 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheDerek47 - I believe it would be called the in-active door two-point locking hardware...?

    I need a way to LATCH not lock, a door from both sides as a barrier to keep pets from storming the kitchen. Do you have, or can you recommend a system like this? It only has to be cat-proof, not burglar-proof.

    %90 of the door is glass and u talking about security :D

  • @ZebraFacts

    Nice locking system. Just one issue here. All an unwanted intruder needs to do to overcome all of those points of contact, is to break one of the glass panels, reach in and turn the dead bolt release knob. A key release dead bolt would be an answer for that issue, but who wants to have to find a key to get out of the house? That could become a safety issue.

    • @che9357

      But these are french doors already inside the house, not exterior french doors.

    (July 2023) Anderson door...............funny I came across this video.
    6 month ago, Anderson came to my house to pitch a french door sale to me, kinda like this one.
    After 2 hours of Bah Bah Bah, he told me 18,000 dollars.. I laughed in his face. ( literally )
    I told home to leave my home nicely!! He didn't say a word! He packed up his equipment and left!
    I'll never invite Anderson into my home again.
