It is a very extreme way of propagating but it does work! It's amazing what these creatures are capable of doing! I will make sure to keep everyone posted! Thanks for watching! :)
Very interesting Maria! Can't wait to see results. These folks split but went to have successful careers in entertainment so let's hope the same happens with these 4 phals...
I am at the edge of my seat as well with anticipation! ...and yes these celebrity phals have split but are still well on their way to living their separate lives filled with success and prosperity...I'm keeping my fingers crossed at least! LOL! Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more! HAPPY GROWING!
THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR VOTE OF CONFIDENCE!!! I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed...it is behaving just a little bit different than my initial propagation that I did years back...oh boy...I hope it doesn't take a turn for the worst. YIKES!
Hello Maria. Another great video. To be honest my heart was in pain seeing those great healthy plants being separated into halves, but that’s the way we learn, right? May I ask you for the name of the disinfectant spray that you are using? Thank you 😊
WOW! Love the names. How appropriate. Admittedly, I was a little nervous when you introduced the topic, but once I saw the large, healthy plants I succumbed to the idea of the experiment. You worry me a bit when you use those large knives for these things. Please buy a good small Japanese pruning saw like we use in bonsai. Or, perhaps a really good pair of secateurs. Interesting that both of the "women" got the smaller amount of roots. Keep the updates coming. Thanks!
Oh my. Not going to lie.. that was hard to watch 🙈 I don’t understand what is going to happen next... sorry I’ve never seen this before. But I’m at ease because I trust your knowledge 😊 I’m sure that what you did is for the good of the plant. Very interesting video. Have a wonderful weekend. XOXO 😘
Yes this is a very intense propagation method...I first read about it in an article about four years ago and I couldn't believe it myself so I decided to give it a try. The propagation was successful and we were able to grow keikis from each half. It was really amazing to see. I didn't use any boosters or hormones in my earlier propagation so I am very curious to see how much the keiki paste and rooting hormone and aloe vera will impact these divisions. This is a learning lesson for me as well as I don't know what to expect. I am very anxious to see the results as well and will do an update as soon as I see any developments. Keep your fingers crossed! Enjoy your weekend as also and HAPPY GROWING! Much love and big hugs to you! :)
Well, that is very interesting! Where did you get this idea? This is a very similar propagation technique that can be used on the amaryllis bulbs you get around Christmas time.
Matthew Condon About 4 years ago I read an article on it and It was so far fetched that I had to give it a try. I was was shocked that it indeed worked and I was able to grow keikis on both halves. And although many bulbs and also tubers can be cut up and divide in this way it is quite unusual that an entire plant can be completely cut in half and not die...I was very impressed! I am so hoping to reap the same results with these guys. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING!
I know right...it is very suspenseful for me as well. You never know what they are going to do! I am hoping they go above and beyond my expectations! KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED AND HOPE FOR THE BEST! I will keep everyone posted and let you know as soon as anything develops! Thanks for watching!
I am at the edge of my seat as well! I am so hoping for awesome results! Keep your finger's crossed and I will keep you all posted! STAY TUNED FOR MORE!
LOL! I'm always good for some drama! ...it's the spice of life that makes each day an adventure! Thanks for getting me! HAPPY GROWING AND WISHING YOU THE ABSOLUTE BEST!
I know, like I said it's rarely talked about most don't about it at all. I read an article a while back stating that the phal could be propagated in this manner and I was bold/crazy enough to give it a try and low and behold it was absolutely true as I was able to produce keikis from both sides. I don't believe it was as successful as it could've been though because of my lack of experience with this type of propagation...but this time I do believe I have a better understanding of it and will dedicate more time to seeing this experiment through. Keep your finger's crossed and let's hope for the very best outcome! I will keep you posted!
Ha ha ha ha Maria this video was like watching a Frankenstein movie!!!!....scary ha ha ha can’t stop laughing! Good luck,i can’t wait to se the result.
It was quite an intense surgical process I tell ya! I had broke out into a sweat. I do have high expectation with this experiment and will keep everyone posted on any developments. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING!
@@sandraw50 I do not have a Green Jade Vine...but from what I know of them is that they are tropical growers and love warm to hot temperatures and bright shade to full sun.
LOL!!! OH MY!!!! Ha ha ha! I'm hoping that it wasn't that dark and twisted...the intent was good...as I believe learning is always a good thing even when we have to endure some not so pleasant circumstances...those are the lessons we learn from the most! Thanks for joining me on this adventure and I am hoping all is well dear friend! HAPPY GROWING MY DEAR!
Thank you for sharing your positive feedback...and because this was such an intense propagation I did try to add a sprinkle of humor to lighten the mood. I am happy you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for more? P.S. Which one do you think will have the best result?
I cried a little lol... Also, is it just me or is there a sign of fusarium in Bennifer? There are purple areas going up and down the stem which would look like a ring if you were to cut them horizontally.
LOL! It definitely was a cringey moment. ...and no fusarium...the orchid has a natural purple color to it. The spike and butter skin coating of the stem exposed a lot of that natural purple color.
Gotcha! Thanks for the reply, love your videos. It took me almost 2 years to figure out what my orchids like, this season I finally did it! 10 spikes so far. Your videos are very informative. Keep up the green work! Lol

YES IT WAS QUITE A MISSION!!! ...and thankfully I wasn't harmed in the process! It was like cutting into wood! The stem was so tough yet the leaves were so fragile...so it was difficult to find a balance...and yes this is a rarely talked about subject that most don't even know about. I read an article about four years ago stating that it was a form of propagation and because I too had never heard of any such thing...I had to give it a try and to my shock and amazement it was absolutely true. Although it wasn't as successful as I think it could've been...so I decided to add some other elements into the mix to see if we could get a better result and to see if we could determine the best result. I changed many elements in this propagation to better assist in getting the best possible results. Keep your finger's crossed and let's hope for an even more successful propagation!
Yes it was pretty extreme...and the knives were very sharp...they were just tough as nails to cut through. I am in the market to find something that is more functional for plants and these type of projects.
THEY WERE SHARP KNIVES!!! But I do need something that is more adequate to do the job right...it was a propagating nightmare! LOL! I am looking into it.
Good morning PhalPal Maria, controversial was the correct word. As the advocate for Phalaenopsis, It hurts my heart everytime to make these videos. Next time you want to kill a beautiful, healthy, Phalaenopsis Orchid in spike.........Just send it to me, the SLAYER of Orchids. I still love you but i don't approve of violence against orchids lol
Orchids for Dummies Well as I did state it is an extreme propagation method meaning that even as intense as it is, it is not by any means intended to “kill” the orchid but it is a means of bringing forth more life via more keikis. So from this experiment we can find out the orchids potential and ability to survive and continue to bring forth life...and can actually teach people that even if your orchid becomes severely injured all hope is not lost and you may still have a chance of saving it via its offspring. As in the case of crown rot where many people thought that if a phal gets crown rot there is no hope for the orchid and to simply throw the orchid away. Brad was one of the first orchid growers that made a video stating this. When I experienced crown rot on one of my orchids I refused to give up on it and despite what other or growers proclaimed I persisted in saving it and was successful in growing another keiki and it survived the devestation. So there is a lot that can be learned by this type of experiment... but if no one is bold enough to do it...then how will we ever know??? Now I am not suggesting that everyone go out and do this and I know that without a doubt most will not because it is pretty harsh...but what I am showing is that orchids are plants that can survive through some pretty extreme conditions. So to me it is a sacrifice for the benefit of the good. “The more that we know, the more that we can grow”. PS I read about this propagation method in an article about 4 years ago so it is a propagation method that is documented. I did not make it up...and although I had never seen it done before, I believed that it could be done and set out on my adventure to find out if it could...although it was a gut wrenching experience I walked away with my mind completely blown at how phenomenal these orchid’s growth and survival habits are. I have learned the most out of these type of experiments and firmly believe it is for the benefit of the good...and I don’t regret doing it.
Yes, I do admit this is an extreme propagation. This is in attempt to bring about new and more plant life. This is no different then divisions, graftings and cuttings that Gardner’s and growers often do. Potatoes, bulbs and tubers are often cut in the same manner for propagation.
I’m speechless,,, Wow!!!! Please keep posting to see how they progress 😂😂😂🥰🥰🌷🌷🌷

you need a Santoku knife, thin but very sharp blade, cuts through a whole cabbage like butter.
The one knife was thin and extremely sharp but I still had a difficult time. I will have to look that knife up and see about getting one.
