An idea came to me, why not pull the leaf from the mother plant put it into rain water and see if it grows roots. Which it did. At the beginning of this year I watched a video showing the benefits of using Willow sticks to root slips. There is a huge Weeping Willow growing in the complex. I successfully grew over about 30 Comfrey leaves into new plants. But this recipe you you have given to us, is a "Game Changer". So much to be grateful to you NATE! I love your simple and diect way of explaining. And it goes without saying, this video has been sheared with all my family, friends, and neighbours. @@TheVigilantStewards I just stick my cutting into the aloe for a minute and put it in the ground. If you are serious about cloning I recommend a dwc cloner I bought a cheap one on Amazon and never loose any clones anymore
I love your channel so much. We think so much alike. Lol I had some sickly fruit trees that I inherited with a new property that I had bought. As an experiment, I cut a bunch of willow and mulched around the trees with it. Hoping that it may slowly break down and heal the roots or strengthen them and give the tree back its vitality.I have very good success with that. I also recently built a living maze from Willow cuttings! It’s only been in the ground for about five weeks. But it’s coming along really beautifully. I got that idea based on the living fences that they make in Europe.
I was wondering if something like forsythia also qualifies? Thought I read somewhere making a tea helps for rooting…could be wrong be I’d love to know for certain
Ive started using raw aloe for cloning. I stick the cut right into a piece of the plant material and plant it in a fiber pot. Ive never had better success.
It goes along with the idea that plants talk to us. I was thinking how an alore plant gushes that gel when its cut. That gel is meant to sanitize the wound, provide a barrier to stop pathogens, and heal the tissue. What is a clone if not a cut in need of healing? This willow tree thing is interesting. What is willow if not natures aspirin. Combined with a sea kelp growth hormone and it makes perfect sense. Stop the stress, heal the wound, grow the root. good times.@@gardenlikeaviking
Have you tried dipping cuts in just raw honey? The antibacterial properties can help plants to recover faster and root faster. It's not magic, but it tends to work very well

As a former fellow commercial grower i subed as soon as i heard that....i know for a fact people in the biz like myself are about trying new things and figuring out how to do shit easier and more economically, everything you talk about and the way toumsay it says you are like a fountain of actual good knowledge. not just my cousins uncle once said turn the plant upside down to get more out of her bs...
Aloe vera(auxin,salycilic acid and micro nutrients full chain of amino acids a few drops of organic apple cider vinegar with the mother enzyme will help organize the amino acids), coconut water(gibberellin,cytokinnins potassium phosphorus magnesium calcium)and kelp because kelp is great would be quite close especially if you dont have access to willow if you do you could try adding aloe and coconut water in the right amounts and halve the ammount of kelp and willow or double the scale depending on how well it performs being more diverse in whats in it id almost guarentee there would be an ideal mixture to get it going then add mycorrhizal fungi to the root zone and should have ripper clones few more ingredients like worm juice and moringa extract in a vortex compost tea brewer with some unsulphured black mollasses and you will have some serious natural fertilizer completely loaded with beneficial microbes and the nutrients being plant ready yeah sorry ranting all informative though

Found a new one for me is red cabbage as it has many of the ingredients your recipe has. Also contains calcium. I always use this as the results speak for themselves; visable results in a few days. 50+ years ago I was pounding weeping willow shoots with water for rooting cuttings. Later watering with worm castings...dont know where I learned but my best friend was almost 50 years older than I and she taught me about gardening and raising farm animals. ...
I love the knowledge our elders have & we are slowly loosing it.. I remember seeing a comment about the environment,there was a young lady who made a comment along the lines of our environment is like this because the older people didn't take care of it by recycling & she said something else,anyway the old woman said we put out our milk bottles when we were finished we would re use paper bags,our pop bottles were collected & re used,the older woman did mention a few other things,the old woman was right though back then they were not as wasteful as we are today..We truly live in a throw away society what we waste is just madness.. People looked after what they had.. And with the growing I remember going to farms & been able to pick our own,the flavour was lovely.. I have noticed that with growing my own,the flavour,you can't beat it..the veg & salad you get from supermarket has no flavour & it lasts for nearly two weeks..Not just that I think growing your own,along with flowers really helps your mental health.. Huh. I always thought the salicylic acid was to keep the plants from hurting after you cut them.😅 My local grocery store that has a floral department sells bundles of curly willow for $9.99. I just bought some to plant. Already had roots, too! Good to cut back and feed to rabbits and chickens. Lots of uses for willow.

I don't see why not... its not about the biology here its about the chemistry for the most part so yes freezing should help slow the degradation of the compounds

You briefly showed how you root cuttings - do you roll them in fabric and place in water with this rooting hormone? Could you please tell more about how you root cuttings? I’m trying rock wool this season, my many attempts with peat moss/ sand or potting mixes or just sand were unsuccessful. I’m struggling with roses and fruit trees, cherries were my greatest bummer.
Roses are very easy to grow. Just stick the cuttings in a pot filled with compost then cover the pot with a plastic bag. Keep it moist and out of direct sunlight.
You're gonna grow fig trees in northern Indiana? Gurney's has one that's sposed to grow up here, but it's kinda hard to believe. I'm in west central Indiana.

Could you aerate it instead of mixing every hour? Say use a air pump and air stone on a timer 1hour interval of 15mins. BTW thanks for the videos you make. You can also use alfalfa as its got a natural growth hormone :]

I know its crazy but they are bred specifically for cold hardiness the type is called "Chicago Hardy Fig Tree"

Would it be effective if we use sansevieria instead of willow. (ıf we cannot find willow) I read that there are hormones in sansevieria that accelerate rooting.

Could you aerate it instead of mixing every hour? Say use a air pump and air stone on a timer 1hour interval of 15mins.

Our area does not have Willow trees native to the area. Our local nursery has “Willow Acacia” trees. Will these trees work?

I have used honey, aloe, molasses and spit all work. For whatever reason a dash cinnamon works well in a jar of water for rose cuttings for me
I have used the weeping willow tree, for root hormone. Works fine.
If you were taking fresh cutting would you simply dip the stem in this like any other rooting hormone?

Simple Raw honey do not change the water dip the root in the honey then into a glass of water tear off leaves below the water.

I get the rooting hormone bit... why would you foliar spray it? Just for the minerals in kelp, or does the willow do something for the leaves too??
its a general growth stimulant that helps all areas of plant growth really... its an ingredient I often add to my general foliar sprays and compost teas in the beginning of the season
