      Yeah, I know Frank, it is hard to find parts for the old Hurst Airhart brake system, but I am working on it. Still not sure what the 380 is destined for.

    Dale, thank you for sharing your shop and your projects with everyone. These videos really take me back to the trail riding days of my early teenage years. I had a 1974 DT100B and then later on I acquired an LT2MX. The LT2 came in a series of cardboard boxes as it had been mostly disassembled. Between my father, the mechanic at the local Yamaha shop and myself we were able to get it all back together. Not as a perfect restoration but as a motocross bike that functioned properly. I can still remember the first time I started and rode it after all the work had been completed. It felt almost like I had signed with Yamaha and been given a works bike. Those were some wonderful times and I will always be grateful for them. Keep up the good work and thank you again for sharing.

      Awesome story Curtis, we all have them from our youth and they are always dealing with these bikes, these bikes were our first taste of freedom. I can just imagine getting a LT2 and hitting the track for the first time. You bet, I would have felt like Gary Jones too. No argument from me.... those were the best times. Thanks for sharing your story, and thanks for hanging out with me in the shop.

    Back in 74 I bought a brand new (from K&N Yamaha) TX650. Ran fine for about three months then after two or three minutes it would start to cut out on one side. Turned out to be a bad coil. Ran fine after they put in a new one. Even new stuff can go bad.

      Hey Bud, yes, no argument from me, new isn't always better. It can be a real challenge troubleshooting coils at times, they sometimes change how them misbehave. Thats when the hair is pulled out. LOL

    Wow! that job is growing legs everyday. I hope the customer gives you a Christmas bonus, plenty shops would have returned the bike with sparking points and the rings pinging. At a 'certain age' bikes/cars etc need ongoing attention, just like people😏 Best wishes for a blessed and maybe a white Christmas there in Montana.

      Thanks Steve, I think I was just too close to the exhaust and the heater running and couldn't hear that ringing, but I sure could when I edited the video, it was unmistakable, rings grabbing the ports. We will check it out on the next video. I'm pretty sure there will be no white Christmas this year, it doesn't happen very often, but it does happen. Plenty of snow in the high country though. Merry Christmas to you folks too.

    Hi Dale, Good video! for a lot of years, I was using a Phillips screwdriver on Japanese equipment when I should have been using a JIS screwdriver. I knew something was wrong it just didn't sink in. I wondered why some of the screws had a dot stamped on them.

    Wow - she fired off immediately after the coil change. I'm sure I would have changed the plug and wasted some time before considering the coil - good call on that one. Camera shots are great - thanks for taking the time to readjust and repoint the camera for us viewers. The lighting is great, including on the closeups. You could see the spark deteriorate and could see the points sparking. Great shots. I could hear some zzzzzzzing, when the mic was close on the left side. Be interesting to see what you might find.

      Thank you, I have had a lot of experience with these coils, I can't believe they can even sell them, I pick up all the used OEM coils I can find. I think I was too close to the exhaust and the heater running and couldn't hear that ringing sound. But I sure could when I was editing the video. It sounds like rings hanging up on the ports, going to pull the cylinder and check, I should have before, but I didn't do the bore and hone on this one someone else did, and it looked great, and I did check the clearance which was just perfect at .002. We will check it out on the next one and see, but that is what I believe it is. Sure, wouldn't be good to lose the top end after all the bottom end work we have done.

    Good job Dale. It's unusual to actually see a bad coil that doesn't have any obvious physical damage. I was really expecting it to run when you replaced that hardware store connector, but that coil was definitely the problem..

    I was doing some electrical repairs on a friends 78 DT125, which had been maybe the EASIEST starting motorcycle ever, when it suddenly refused to start. I did all the basic checks on coils, plug replacement etc, and out of the bike I could get spark, but not while installed.
    You probably have run across it before, but those old shielded Yamaha plug caps unbeknownst (a big word for me) to me had a resistor in them that was removable! Turned out it had broken in 2 and would intermittently break contact with movement (Forehead Slap!!)
    Something I could never figure out while testing the coil for resistance (I know that's generally a waste of time), the primary and secondary readings were both within spec. But when I reversed the leads on the meter, the primary resistance read super high, which I thought indicated the prescence of a diode. But nowhere in any Yamaha manual do they mention any such thing, nor any requrement to take readings with meter connected in any particular polarity! I spent too much time thinking that was the problem, then it turned out to be nothing.
    Just curious if you have run into this.
    I'll quit bothering you now and finish watching your video; it's kind of like a cliffhanger for me at the moment!
    And BTW the new camera rocks!

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I have Wayne, these days I replace those plug caps with the non-resistor type since plugs are now mostly resistor, it will work with resistor or non-resistor plugs. Just may make noise in your neighbors TV or radio, HA!

We had a couple inches of snow last month but that is it. There is snow in the high country. Temperature has been mild also; we deserve it after the last few winters that were just brutal. Mr. Dale, I have a problem with my 2 stroke motorcycle. 1.When i cold start the motorcycle with the coke on. it revs high. It also revs high when i on the choke.
    2. After closing the coke ,it idles like a normal condition.
    3. When i put the motorcycle on side stand or maybe like lean the motorcycle it stalls.
    I don't know but i am following the manual. It is a mikuni vm26 carb. Is this a problem of the float height, should i increase or decrease the float? And also i increased the height of the motorcycle is this causing the problem? Please. I want your help😢

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sorry you are having problems with your bike, of course the revs will be a little higher when the choke is on. But not too high, my first though would be an air leak from a crankshaft seal, but when you said its normal at idle with the choke off, I'm not so sure. You might try adjusting the float, not sure what bike it is, but when I don't have specifications, I try to level the float arms with the float bowl gasket surface without the gasket, those two should be parallel with one another. If that doesn't do it, you probably should do an engine leak down check to make sure your engine is sealed. Best of luck with your repair and thanks for hanging out in the shop with me.

    • @BanBan-zk9ue

      @montana2strokeracer thanks for replying mr.dale. I recently installed some new piston rings. The compression is good. No leaks from the head or the crank seal,there was some leak in the bend pipe I repaired it. Is my motorcycle going through a break in process. will it consume more fuel and struggle to idle or tune till the process is done. Can you recommend what should I do and not do?
      Some extra points:the motorcycle starts in 2 3 kicks easily(very strong blue spark). I mixed 30ml 2t in 500ml gasoline is this a good mixture for the break in process or should I use the 2T pump instead?
      Can you also tell me the normal things to expect and look out during the break in process. Thank you! You are a life saver Mr.Dale
