They've been called the greatest bar band ever. Any of the David Lee Roth stuff is great. Some of the songs got over played a bit, don't overlook songs with a smaller view count. Van Hagar is solid, some of it good, but not like the old stuff.

Andy & Alex You dorks need to hear Atomic Punk and Im The One. Unchained, One Foot Out The Door are also musts.
Most Van Halen songs are relatively short. (Under 5 minutes) so Eddie VH launches into his solos midway thru song. Which are normally not very long solos but he takes advantage of that short time. You two are gonna love VH like you do Boston.
One thing though... Van Halen is David Lee Roth NOT Sammy Hagar!!!

October 19th, 1982. Spectrum Philadelphia, Pa. Eddie had broken his hand a few days before and VH had to cancel some shows in Jersey but thankfully the tour had resumed that night and me and my bud from school were able to see them live, my first legit concert, I was barely 15 years old. First thing I saw was Eddie, Mike, and Alex on stage and they started playing the opening riff of Running With The Devil. I was so focused on Eddie's cast and how he was playing I forgot about Dave and then wondered "where the hell was Dave?" Next thing I know a spotlight shines on him standing on a platform or amp or something, looked like it was fifty feet tall for all I knew (obviously not) and he jumps and does a mid-air split, lands perfectly and rolls right in to the song without missing a beat. Crowd went nuts. About halfway through the show they're jammin' to Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, I'm standing against the railing on the second level and someone smacks my ass. I turn around and see this super cute chick in ripped jeans and skin tight t-shirt smiling at me. Then she came in real close nuzzled up against my neck, bit my earlobe and made this "grrrrrrr" sound that sent a shockwave through me that I will never forget. Then she backed away, yelled "whooooooo" and danced out of my life. Great show, great memories.

I remember driving round the streets with my mates in the mid-80’s smashing this album out along with Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. The band I was playing in at the time covered this song and it was always a crowd favourite. This whole album is one of the most important rock albums ever made, particularly as it introduced Eddie Van Halen to the world. Great memories.

Yeah... Mean Street would be a good one. The last album with David Lee Roth has Drop Dead Legs which is really good.
Side Note: You heat Eddie “go-off” a lot on guitar solos. In my opinion that’s “one of the reasons” Eddie Van Halen was and is such a great guitar player. He typically plays to-the-song, it’s not always so much about himself. Especially the early stuff before he became this phenomenon. That’s why we have such INCREDIBLE SONGS like, Ice Cream Man, Dance the Night Away, Women in Love, Beautiful Girls... all those show his genius because he can pull back and write a great song. Most of the best known great guitar players are not great song writers.

Great reax! Van Halen was a hugely popular band, so while they were absolutely lethal musicians, they didn't always play that way. This is a great example of them trying to reach the most people. Mean Street is an amazing, dark track from the album of the same name, that shows off everything they can do. But that was also one of their least selling albums. Earlier cuts like I'm the One, or Somebody Give Me a Doctor also jaw-dropping. Their first album is so solid, every track is amazing.

The earlier Van Halen was all about the guitar. Later they were successful enough to cross over to the mainstream, and their music became more pop oriented. So it might help to keep that in mind when choosing which tracks you'd like to use in reaction videos. This track uses a snarling guitar to great effect. I liked Jamie's Crying and Ice Cream Man from that same album. DOA, Mean Street, And The Cradle Will Rock are also ones I can recommend from later albums.

You've kicked a hornets nest now because you have Van Halen and Van Hagar. Both great versions of the band in their own right, but like Queen and Rush, you can't go wrong with anything either version of the band. My favorite Dave album is Fair Warning. My favorite Sammy album is 5150. EVH is a madman on Mean Street.

Hell yeah, I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on DLR or Sammy, even though Sammy is my favorite all time musician. It would be hard for me to pick out a VH song I don't like. I remember hearing Jump as a tiny kid not too long after it came out. There are some early Sammy songs that popped up on pandora that I didn't know and didn't like (maybe from Montrose).

@@misterkite I just never really cared for "Van Hagar". I don't mind some of his early solo stuff. I just don't like his voice with VH's music. Plus, I think VH got a bit too mellow at that point. There are a couple of exceptions (Humans Being is one).

@@centuryrox Humans Being kicked ass and to me had a very heavy and hard sound. It was the last song Sammy recorded while with VH. FUCK was also a pretty hard, maybe edgy sounding to me and was something I never got tired of. I'm a huge Sammy fan, but also loved the DLR side of VH as well. It would be hard for me to pick out a VH song I don't like.

Van Halen was my absolute favorite band as a teenager. I was upset when they got rid of David Lee Roth but when I found out they replaced him with Sammy Hagar I was in heaven. I LOVE SAMMY HAGAR! He elevated Van Halen's music. The bassist, Michael Anthony, is one of the most underrated in the business. Mean Street is a very good suggestion. Sinner's Swing is a good one as well. Pretty much anything from the Hagar years. I stopped listening to them after that. Did see them live three times and they put on some awesome shows. They have a live album you should listen to, I think it was filmed as well. Can't remember.

VH first album set the world on fire. The entire album was a raw wake up call for rock guitar players and bombastic vocals. It was recorded mostly live and promoted by Gene Simmons of KISS who suggested they get a recording deal based on a demo tape he listened to. The rest is VH Rock History !

Imho, Van Halen I was an all time classic. Running with the Devil, You Really Got Me, I'm the One and Jaime's Cryin' are some good ones from the first album. Van Halen II was really good. Check out Dance the Night Away, DOA and Beautiful Girls. After that, their albums were mediocre or average at best. Some highlights are Unchained, And the Cradle Will Rock, and Mean Street. Their early stuff was very similar to Ain't Talkin Bout Love. They fell into the Hard Rock/A.O.R. category. Excellent guitars in the early stuff. Their bass and drum sound was very recognizable. You know a VH song as soon as you hear the rhythm section. The later stuff with Sammy Hagar was more pop rock. I preferred Van Halen with DLR and Sammy as a solo act. A live version of Eruption is a must. The studio version is great too. It was generally played as the opening to You Really Got Me on the radio.
