@@landshark7730 I saw them at Comiskey Park in Chicago, which opened that tour - late July 1983 I want to say. Joan Jett got booed off the stage (unfairly, in my opinion.)
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the mind-numbing fact that you guys had never heard "Roxanne" before... welcome to the music of the arguably biggest band in the world from the early 1980's.
Lemme tell you, I'm 19 and have been raised on a litany of 70s and 80s tunes courtesy of my parents. Somehow I hadn't heard any of the Police apart of "Every Breath You Take" until last year. I'm hooked now, possibly my favorite group
So glad The Police are getting some love on the channel, they were my first concert when I was about 10 years old 12ish years ago! Hope to see more of them!
I have heard this song my whole life to the point where I don't purposely listen to it anymore. It's interesting to hear someone else listen to it the first time and remember just how good it is.
Best concert of my life - The Police, Synchronicity Tour at the Carrier Dome, second row. 1984. Around 2001, I was getting gas at a Chevron station in Hollywood when I ran into Stuart Copeland. I leaned over and read his credit card as he was handing it to the clerk to make sure it was him. I said "Stuart! Best concert of my life, The Police, Synchronicity Tour at the Carrier Dome, second row." He broke into a huge grin. Nice memory, both of those moments.
When you say "I like that, that was a good chord" at the beginning, followed by the laugh, that was the lead singer (Sting) sitting on the piano accidentally and laughing. 😆
I'll never forget my first listen to The Police and Roxanne, morning FM radio, driving to high school. What I've always LOVED about the police, is how they arrange theiir chorus vocals like a horn section. Sooo cool! "I Can't Stand Losing You" is another good example.
Walking on the Moon and King of Pain are both incredible. And since you’re on The Police, check out Fortress Around Your Heart from Sting’s first solo album after they broke up. It’s a phenomenal track with great lyrics and a chorus that Sting himself said was the best one he ever wrote. In fact Rick Beato did a video on it. Highly recommend!
This song holds a special place in memory. I was in the seventh grade when it came out and the "coolest" and best guy on the team played it on a loop. I was JV and new to the team but it made me feel like one of the guys.
I was in high school when this was released. Every day at least a minimum of once a day you would hear that “Rooooxxxxaaaannnneee” in the hallway between classes when people were going to classes.
the police are so underrated they have such amazing songs. “every little thing she does is magic” “wrapped around your finger” “next to you “ and “king of pain” are some of my absolute favorites by them
Suggestion from the same era: two songs joined perfectly together, Moving in Stereo and All Mixed Up by The Cars. The whole album got so much airplay in the late 70s. Love your reactions guys!
Welcome to the sauce jungle gentleman! You want more of Stewart Copeland’s drumming? Check out Driven To Tears as well as about 15 to 20 more. The Police contain multitudes...
Spirits in the Material World, De Doo Doo Doo De Da Da Da, and Wrapped Around Your Finger are all amazing songs, but honestly all their songs are amazing😂😂
Sting could put his entire persona in every song he sang. "Don't Stand", Every Breath You Take", "Synchronicity", "Everything She Does Is Magic"; the list goes on. Such a great sound, so unique. Man, does that take me back.
Always liked “Wrapped around your finger” by them, super chill cruising around kind of song - also, you were supposed to play the Roxanne drinking game....missed opportunity lol
Sting is brilliant!!! Killer tune, I can hear Eddie Murphy singing this in I think the movie 48 Hours???, hilarious!!! Next up "Synchronicty II" is brilliant, "Spirits in the Material World" , "King of Pain" the list goes on. Sting has some excellent solo work too, "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You", goosebumps, all the good stuff. Happy weekend!
I love that you guys are starting to get closer to some 80’s and punk tunes. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic is my personal favorite Police song. Stewart Copeland shines.
But you can reach the top of your profession If you become the leader of the land For murder is the sport of the elected And you don't need to lift a finger of your hand
Happy Friday ! In case ya haven't thought of it Sting lead singer here of the Police is also the Higher voice on Dire Straits Money For Nothing track !
Great reaction!! Stewart Copeland on drums. And the singer/bassist Sting has a lot of solo albums, and his voice is really beautiful in those recordings as well as the later Police albums. If I could recommend other Police songs, "Spirits in the Material World" or "Synchronicity".
Legends. Just straight up legends. They were barely able to stand each other sometimes but made some of the most epic music of all time. Side note: my hubby and I named both of our dogs after songs, Jett (Paul McCartney and Wings) and Rio (Duran Duran). I've decided our next dog is going to be named Roxanne because you won't be able to help but yell "Raaaaaahhhhxanne!" when you call her.
Next: Everything She Does is Magic, Every Breath You Take, Don’t Stand so Close... Really enjoyed this reaction guys! Look forward to u discovering more of Sting & what that group created, some really great songs!
"A really great bad voice." I get it, man. The flaws in singer's voices are what made them unique. In that same way that singers like Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, Carole King, Carly Simon, even Stevie Nicks...It isn't about what their voices CAN'T do, or them trying to achieve a level of perfection. It's about what they ALREADY do.
Stewart Copeland is not only a phenomenal drummer but an amazing composer with numerous film scores as well as ballet in his repertoire. He’s a musical genius in every sense.
Pretty close to the start of the movie ' 48 Hours' , Eddie Murphy is in a jail cell , I think he has headphones on and he's singing this song at the top of his lungs, hilarious.
Great pick! Can't wait for it to start. For their next one, I'd recommend "Message in a Bottle." They're really showing off their chops in that one. Someone mentioned XTC, and I have to agree that's a great band to check out. I'd suggest starting with "Senses Working Overtime." Shows off their musicianship and has amazing lyrics, varied parts, and a BANGING chorus.
The Police were absolutely groundbreaking with their fresh sound. Sting's solo career showcases his storytelling skills. Any selection from the album Ten Sumner's Tales is a winner (Fields of Gold is a classic).

Reggie!! Reggie!! What you want cop ?! lol
I always think of that scene when I hear Roxanne.
Our age is showing :p
Surfeit You ain’t kidding. I saw The Police 40 years ago in Philly on the Sychronicity tour. The Go-Go’s warmed them up. A couple of lifetimes ago.
Only U2 might compete
Or that other band from Athens...
The police- don’t stand so close to me
The social distancing anthem.
REAL deep cut for the Police if you're interested; "Murder By Numbers". The melody, the lyrics, the groove, the odd time signature... Soooooo good
Did you ever hear Sting sing Murder by Numbers with Frank Zappa? You might like.
Yesssss
I second that choice!
Murder by Numbers is one of my fav Police tunes 😎
I wish I could like this recommendation more than once! What a great tune!!!
I have heard this song my whole life to the point where I don't purposely listen to it anymore. It's interesting to hear someone else listen to it the first time and remember just how good it is.
Yep
Best concert of my life - The Police, Synchronicity Tour at the Carrier Dome, second row. 1984. Around 2001, I was getting gas at a Chevron station in Hollywood when I ran into Stuart Copeland. I leaned over and read his credit card as he was handing it to the clerk to make sure it was him. I said "Stuart! Best concert of my life, The Police, Synchronicity Tour at the Carrier Dome, second row." He broke into a huge grin. Nice memory, both of those moments.
You have to listen to "Driven To Tears" for a true showcase of Stewart Copeland's drumming skills.
Totally agree here
'Regatta de Blanc', 'Voices Inside My Head', 'One World (Not Three)' and 'No time this Time' are also some top-notch Copeland drumming IMO
I always loved how the harmonized background singing of "Roxanne" in the chorus almost served like a horn section.
When you say "I like that, that was a good chord" at the beginning, followed by the laugh, that was the lead singer (Sting) sitting on the piano accidentally and laughing. 😆
I think I said 'weird chord' lol, it was definitely out of place! hahahaha
‘Every Little Thing She Does is Magic’ should be the next Police track y’all hit. Very good song.
There are at least 20 Police songs that they should listen before « Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic » lol.
@@Ogilla well they already hit it so. This is from a year ago.
When a friend played this track to me back in the 80s I said this band will be huge. Became a massive fan and saw them play in Sydney in 1984.
Gaz
Stuart Copeland’s percussion performance on “Driven to Tears” is epic!
I'll never forget my first listen to The Police and Roxanne, morning FM radio, driving to high school. What I've always LOVED about the police, is how they arrange theiir chorus vocals like a horn section. Sooo cool! "I Can't Stand Losing You" is another good example.
That's the thing about real music. There's no auto tune, overdubs. It's raw, it's true. Great reaction. One of my fave bands ever.
Fortress! Heck yeah!
This song holds a special place in memory. I was in the seventh grade when it came out and the "coolest" and best guy on the team played it on a loop. I was JV and new to the team but it made me feel like one of the guys.
"Message in a Bottle", and "Every Breath You Take" r some more Police classics
I was in high school when this was released. Every day at least a minimum of once a day you would hear that “Rooooxxxxaaaannnneee”
in the hallway between classes when people were going to classes.
"Don't Stand So Close To Me" I just love the opening .. Such a great song ..
This song is so recognized and famous. It is historic and a quintessential rock song. And yes. Stewart Copeland is a monster drummer.
the police are so underrated they have such amazing songs. “every little thing she does is magic” “wrapped around your finger” “next to you “ and “king of pain” are some of my absolute favorites by them
I lived to hear someone describe Sting's voice as " a good bad voice". Classic !
👮🏻♀️The Police w' Robert Downey Jr.🏆"Driven To Tears" Live

More more more Police., “Spirits in the Material World”
Spirits in the Material World, De Doo Doo Doo De Da Da Da, and Wrapped Around Your Finger are all amazing songs, but honestly all their songs are amazing😂😂
I am surprised few have mentioned "Walking on the Moon", incredible drumming.
Exactly
The, Bed's Too Big Without You, an understated bass riffy classic... Awesome Police song, good place to go next lads.
My all time favorite band. Was waiting for your reaction to the Police & you did not disappoint. Thanks guys!
I love that you guys are starting to get closer to some 80’s and punk tunes.
Every Little Thing She Does is Magic is my personal favorite Police song. Stewart Copeland shines.
If you want a true one-take Police tune, listen to “Murder By Numbers”. Written and recorded in a few short hours in Monserrat.
❤️ that song
Great song!
But you can reach the top of your profession
If you become the leader of the land
For murder is the sport of the elected
And you don't need to lift a finger of your hand
Happy Friday ! In case ya haven't thought of it Sting lead singer here of the Police is also the Higher voice on Dire Straits Money For Nothing track !
Had no clue on that one! Dire Straits always knew exactly what they wanted, like Michael McDonald for Peg. Once you hear it, it can't be unheard!
Not a fan of theirs at all, but "Don’t Stand so Close" is a damn good song.
Next up "When the World is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around" and "Spirits in the Material World." 👍👍
Love the discussion about Sting's voice. Now pay attention to his phrasing. Impossible to duplicate.
Sting has one of the most amazing voices of any singer on earth.
Congrats... I was one who pushed it over the edge 100k , it’s deserved, you guys are killing the game! Keep going
Gentlemen, you have no idea how big a jar of sauce you've just opened...enjoy.
B I G
Outlandos d'Amour should open the door to ska such as the English Beat and then lead them to the Jam.
amen
Saucy Jack - what is that reference from?
truly one of the great r&r bands
How about a twofer? 2 songs that run together.
"Driven to Tears / When the World is Running Down"
Watching you two react to this reminds me soo much of myself listening to this song for the first time in my bedroom jamming on the jamboree, love it!
I vote for having your next Police song be "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic".
One thing about it, it would explain why people are so bonkers about Stewart Copeland :)
Walking On The Moon....S-Tier for the high hat work alone
Dream of the Blue Turtles is Stings's masterpiece. It's one of the greatest albums ever made, each song is perfection.
It's great. But I think "The Soul Cages," "Ten Summoner's Tales," and "Mercury Falling" are all equally stellar.
@@richardnanian6075 Oh absolutely, Fields of Gold is a beautiful song.
Cool, one of their first hits. Thanks for the song. Another to check out by the Police is Synchronicity 2. Rocking.
Stewart Copeland is not only a phenomenal drummer but an amazing composer with numerous film scores as well as ballet in his repertoire. He’s a musical genius in every sense.
"Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" is a lot of fun. "Next To You" really rocks. If you get into solo Sting, "If You Love Somebody, Set Them Free."
“His voice” would be STING.
In the words of Alan Partridge “that was the Police, or as they are now called Sting” 😂😂
@@levivalentinovideos the producer of this album really got the most out of Sting's amazing voice !!
Sting is a phenomenal vocalist but I think he played a bit of a "character" while singing this song which may be what Alex picked up on.
Exactly. He's an everyday kid on the streets of Kingston pouring out his heart.
Which Sting most definitely ain't!
@@danieljodrey709 well there's a Kingston in London
This is also Outlandos D'Amour, their first studio album in 1978, his vocal chops may have improved with experience.
@@brucemcfarling7810 Agreed.
Pretty close to the start of the movie ' 48 Hours' , Eddie Murphy is in a jail cell , I think he has headphones on and he's singing this song at the top of his lungs, hilarious.
“Don’t Stand So Close to Me” might be another great Police choice in my humble opinion. I think you will enjoy.
Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" would be great to react to.
I’ve been thinking that all week. Raphael Ravenscroft’s sax part is iconic.
I agree
“Right Down the Line” is a classic by Gerry Rafferty
Better than the Beatles.
The Police and XTC toured together. Drums and Wires is the place to start. No bad songs.
Also Making Plans For Nigel.
@@scottgelb2650 Yes! That's on Drums and Wires. Has a famous drum intro.
Yes please xtc!
Can’t Stand Losing You is a must. His vocals improve as the years go by. He loses that whiny sound and it becomes more full.
The Police were absolutely groundbreaking with their fresh sound. Sting's solo career showcases his storytelling skills. Any selection from the album Ten Sumner's Tales is a winner (Fields of Gold is a classic).
I have two son's, one is 34, the other 30. I raised them listening to this music and other genre's....so happy to see you two enjoying "my music"!!!
