This video tutorial provide complete information to deploy and configure L2TP IPSec VPN on Windows server 2019. We will configure L2TP IPSec with preshared key.
1: Install Remote Access Server role on Server 2019.
2: Configure VPN L2TP/IPSec with Preshared Key.
3: Create Dial-up connection on client to test L2TP/IPSec VPN.

Hi, if i follow the step i can connect to the VPN server but i dont have any internet connection. I have tried all thing that i can think about,, so please can you help?
Sorry for the mess. Solution:
1. Right-click on the existing VPN connection, and then select Properties.
2. Select the Networking tab, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP Most probably IPv4) , and then select Properties.
3. Select Advanced, and then clear the Use default gateway on remote network check box. (Note: in this way routing is going through your PC for all , except the VPN Networks)
4. Click OK thrice.
5. Now connect to VPN server again and check the internet connection.

I had the same problem and it works now by doing this.
Is there a way to configure this centrally on the VPN Server so that we don't have to do it on every single client machine?
I have another problem, I can only connect to my VPN Server while being on the same local network, for some reason I cannot connect to my VPN Server over the internet even though I have enabled port forwarding.
Any idea please?

Thanks for the video. I have followed step by step and successfully connected VPN to the server, but only worked on my local network. When I tried to connect via public IP address, the connection wasn't successful even after configuring pptp 1723 port forwarding on my router. Kindly assist

The problem is caused because in the default Windows configuration, IPsec won't work across network address translation (NAT). He didn't encounter this problem in the video because he's working in a test environment. To solve the problem, you need to add the following registry key on both the server and the Windows 10 client:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent:
AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule (DWord) with a value of 2.

I have a problem when to step Active Directory Users & Computers. "To manage users and groups on this computer, use local user and group. To manage users, group & computer in a domain. Log on as s user with domain administration right" and My server work on workgroup (not domain). How to fix it? Can it work with workgroup?
If your server is in workgroup, you have to use Local Users and Groups snap-in (Use compmgmt.msc to access the snap-in) to create and manager users and group. Yes, it can work with workgroup.

For small environment it is fine but with security risk. For medium to large it is not recommended.

You mean, does windows 10 supports IPsec connection with VPN server? The answer is yes. If you are asking whether windows 10 can act as an IPsec VPN server, the answer is NO.

You need to configure NAT on your VPN server.

@MSFT WebCast Hi! thank you for video! I have been struggling with the problem of creating a server with l2tp for a very long time. I have static public ip, all port forwarding is configured, however, when I try to connect, it asks for a login/pass, and then after a minute of the "connecting" status, the process is interrupted with comment "...remote server is not responding". I have been unable to do this with win2017, win 2019 and win2022.
PPTP worked sucessfully, but the standard "incoming connection" is not suitable for my tasks.
I would be very grateful to anyone who can help me.

Check the logs in event viewer on VPN server and also check logon event on Domain controller. Get the list of errors and let me know about it. If possible take screenshot and send an email. You can find my email address on channels about page.

When you connect via VPN, your internet goes thru that VPN, in VPN setting you need to set IPv4 connection
