Additionally, while those are nice to have, you can do without them if you are willing to use one of the "vanilla" 6 lane roads, just set the speed limit to highway speeds with traffic manager.
FYI, might wanna be a bit slower with bus-stops. A couple of times you mis-clicked when adding them. Once resulted in the stop on the opposite side of the street from where you intended (18:58), and the other resulted in no stop being placed (19:44). :)
Fantastic. I binned my entire metro and made many loop metro's with one connection between those loops. My traffic went up 5% and my total users went up from 3940 per week to 7655 per week..
I’m not sure if you’re doing this on the roundabouts, but the “go through the intersection” should only be for traffic on the roundabout, not traffic entering the roundabout. I think that would cause traffic congestion if you allowed entering traffic to enter as well as traffic already on the roundabout.

I think his traffic management is already good. The only minus is that very close junction which is, I don't know what happen to vanilla traffic, made them stop first before crossing. And maybe his roundabout is too small for that number of connected road.
The intersections so close together was definitely the biggest issue I could see. Funneling wasn't even that bad, although I did see a few places that were begging to just put a road in to connect areas together. Biffa trying to put in the bus routes really illustrates how isolated some parts of the city are from the neighborhood right next door.
I disagree. He had way too many big intersections close together and too many one way roads not allowing people to get to where they want to go. His use of six lane roads everywhere is also a big no no. He needs more paths for people to walk places and his metro was a bit of a mess. I'm surprised his traffic rating wasn't worse than it was.
Maps like these on cities skylines give me violent flashbacks. All weird one ways, all six lane roads. You do not need that, friends. :( It makes the AI sad.
Started playing not to long ago. Watching a few of your videos and downloading a few of the mods you use my traffic went from an average 40% to 73% at its best! The lane control mod helps a lot and the correct use of highways helped immensely. I raise a cup of tea in your honor sir.
I made an actual roundabout (1-way ring at a 4-way intersection) for the metros in my city. And it's an above-ground metro so you get to watch all the trains going round. Originally I used a tight crossing intersection because I was imitating The Loop in Chicago. But I found that because I had a lot more space to build than Chicago, and the roundabout was cheaper to build and allowed trains to pass at higher speed. Plus it looks dank.
Yay metro fix! Though just a tidy this time. Still a shame vanilla doesn't have two tunnel stations else a couple of crosslines would connect the loops nicely.
And we see yet another city with massive six lane roads, and seemingly even more massive six lane one-way roads with too many intersections everywhere. More often than not, four lane roads are just fine. Then there were those extreme sharp turns on the metro (thanks for fixing those!) slowing the trains down.
I'm quite a bit late seeing this, but thank you so much for your help on this city! It was a project for a graduate urban planning class. I plan to download your fix and continue building in this city. Thanks a bunch!
Another option to set up the metro as the builder of the city had done, you can be using "Multi-Platform metro" mods to get multiple lanes in the same metro Station, but on separate platforms.

18:00 I am wondering right now if you could exploit the game mechanics with these busses. You said maybe they won't use the bus but they would walk. So if you were to use a highway for a small piece of the road between the bus stops and make sure there is no way to walk to the next Metro station, could you force people to use the bus and therefor make more money than you would if they would walk?
Pedestrian path are crucial. I do have a network of widespread pedestrian paths and tunnels across my cities. It is massively used and this also reduces pedestrian traffic at crosses, hence reducing car queues. Use it: it's cheap, it costs nothing to be operated and helps a lot!
Some of those tiny little crossover roads build to enable the connector bus lines MAY eventually end up causing problems for the usual "too-close junctions" reasons because they're very short roads. IF that happens, since we've got the traffic mod available by the poster's guidelines, we can just add vehicle type restrictions to "bus and SOS only" for those crossing roads and they'll stop being contended for with the usual commercial traffic and private cars shenanigans.
Biffa, don't think for a second I didn't see what you almost did with that road that led to that dam! 😆 You were tempted to tear the dam down again, weren't you? 😆 Now, onto this segment: Good job at reconfiguring the roads and especially the metro line. I didn't consider making an overground path between the metro stations for the changeover but I will now. Hmmm...I wonder if an actual circular metro system would work? 🤔 I could envision a large circle in the city with a cross within where the changeover stations would be where the straight lines touch the circle's perimeter. Has anyone tried that? 🤔 With unlimited money, I could build it before the city, and actually build the city over it, putting stations where the streets are. Anyway, another good video. Looking forward to the next one...
Those circle metro lines are not what I would call a roundabout. Reading the title I though more about a circular piece of tunnel which all the lines are using for getting from one tunnel to another. Another thing: adding up the bus and metro users is not fair, as people now might need to use both to get where they need to, instead of just the metro before.
Multiple line cross-platform (cf Mile End on the London Underground) Internal interchanges between lines at different depths (Green Park in London). In game I have found you can cross lines at different depths but that does not solve the interchange problem.
@jialuo5317 Bunch of mods, particularly AVO, which allows you to remove cars until you allow them to do so, and Customize It!, which technically allows your transport buildings to run on zero upkeep so you can build more of them. Without cheating, it's near- impossible. People will get their cars if they want to and trucks will go to shops even if I prohibit them from doing so in the Policies panel.
Really interesting practical problem solving video. Never fail to be surprised at the basic errors folks make when designing their transport networks in Cities Skylines. (or should that be haphazard random creation of networks?). Common sense and real world experience/examples seem to be abandoned all leading to traffic chaos and then blaming the "broken" traffic network in the game! Really enjoy these videos!
I think that the gridlock in the first roundabout in 2:00 is caused by the fact that you allow cars to enter the intersections when there's cars ahead. This blocks the exits. I don't think allowing cars to enter the intersections should be a default. You should take in consideration what happens when that intersection is blocked. Just like in the roundabout: the intersections where blocked by cars, but only incoming ones, not exiting. If the incoming cars let space for the cars that are already in, you'd be garanteeing free flow.
i have use the one way road for the train system(kind of like roundabout), but it doesn't go well. they always block the road, and u have to calculate the length for them. like those blocking the station.
I think the comment about the subway stations was more about the different subway station mods... From what I remember theres a few that offer multiple tracks per station. So, theres the vanilla station that's got 1 track... Then theres a mod that allows for 2 tracks, and I seem to remember having one that has 4 tracks... So having a single station that works as a transfer between 2 or more tubes is possible with the right mod.
What about the 2k profit from public transport, did it improve? I like the way you improve the traffic overall, nice video again by you Biffa, it is top notch 😁😁👍👊
Around about the 19:50-20:20 mark when you was setting up the bus connections, when you was placing the little cross connections in the roads why did you not just use BUS ONLY roads as it would stop normal traffic crossing between the 2 roads and also allows access to emergency vehicles?? Just a thoughts and suggestion. Keep it up!
You seem to switch back and forth from setting the entering roads on a roundabout to move through. It seems to cause more issues than it solves to have them push through. The issue is that traffic slows down and then they push it causing gridlock ..
The owner of this city did do a nice job so far, only disappointing thing is the traffic which could get rather moody in this game. For the roads, well I have a similar setup planned for the main road but then adding in things like parks and canals on either side of those roads to lessen the noise problem a bit. I am working on a laptop because the motherboard of my PC died on me, so I can't really do much without the game going nuts on me. But still trying to find the right setup that may work. All my gaming is on halt as I had surgery, so can't really do much at this time besides watching video's unfortunately.
@25:00 You can upgrade to the four-lane highway without network extensions as that road is included in the base game, I believe it came with one of the DLC.
@@darthkarl99 you have to force them to use 3 lanes. Overall I agree, in the city itself with slip lanes and all of that 3 lanes for everybody can make sense but on a highway or roundabout? 2 lanes are enough as long as you have a third lane for traffic that exits the highway
@@jakobeng1303 It really comes down to the amount of traffic between junctions. And thats open to so many variables it's impossible to generalise, but there are absolutely cases where you'll want it to manage the amount of traffic in motion. And whilst you might not need that everywhere having it at 3 to begin with avoids needing to tweak further down the road, it also handles brief peak traffic issues better. Anyone who's ever been in IRl gridlock will tell you it doesn't take much congestion to stat a major snarl up, but once it's snarled getting it to unsnarl can be a pain. And that holds true in cities Skylines too.
loops are not always needed, look at the dutch metro lines for example, however where the lines meet, its very busy... (rotterdam got beurs for example, and whit trains, Holland got Utrecht as main hub where there are (i thought) 18 different platforms...

I played Cities Skylines for 5h since it came out. I probably spent 100h watching biffa redo traffic
👍
You should make a city that uses nothing but Roundabouts, not a single non Roundabouts intersection anywhere.
Do would be interesting, if only you could do proper small 1 lane ones that you see in suburban areas.
ok after a few episodes i fi ally realised that you sound like Moss from the IT Crowd
Hi Biffa, I have found a bunch of multi-platform metro stations that really help for busy areas, and that removes the need to transfer stations
It's cool to see a city implemented your suggestions! A couple of rock boxes and is golden 👌
"It's working. I'm not gonna touch it." xD
9:18 You forced all the traffic to go right when there was no right. You need to force them to go straight. Now no cars can use junction
Just scrolling trough the comments to look if somebody has mentioned that before.
Thank you for saying; 'Horky Borky'. I don't know why but it gives me the giggles.
This game would really need those transfer subway stations where you can connect different lines at different depths.
Or at least pathways that can go from a station to another
@@Iamwatchinit Underground pathways between stations, yeah, that would be nice too.
Multiple line cross-platform (cf Mile End on the London Underground) Internal interchanges between lines at different depths (Green Park in London). In game I have found you can cross lines at different depths but that does not solve the interchange problem.
These videos give me lots of ideas for my cities. Thank you!
People are building 6 lane roads in a neighbourhood, so damn unrealistic. In the netherlands you don’t even have a 6 one way lane anywhere😐😐
Modern Murican city planning at its finest. Meanwhile, when I make my cities, I make it hard for people to have cars in the first place.
I love how biffa is super active with his subs
:-)
Really interesting practical problem solving video. Never fail to be surprised at the basic errors folks make when designing their transport networks in Cities Skylines. (or should that be haphazard random creation of networks?). Common sense and real world experience/examples seem to be abandoned all leading to traffic chaos and then blaming the "broken" traffic network in the game! Really enjoy these videos!
Moutton Noir "random, haphazard networks" Pretty much how London developed?
I think that the gridlock in the first roundabout in 2:00 is caused by the fact that you allow cars to enter the intersections when there's cars ahead. This blocks the exits. I don't think allowing cars to enter the intersections should be a default. You should take in consideration what happens when that intersection is blocked. Just like in the roundabout: the intersections where blocked by cars, but only incoming ones, not exiting. If the incoming cars let space for the cars that are already in, you'd be garanteeing free flow.
"It's just another stop sign in the roaaaad "
i have use the one way road for the train system(kind of like roundabout), but it doesn't go well. they always block the road, and u have to calculate the length for them.
like those blocking the station.
You made me laugh at "We don't need no...hidden stop signs" ill be singing that the rest of the day, thanks haha
There's constant cars stopping and continuing! You have to remove the stop signs where it's creating traffic jams!
“We don’t need no, hidden stop signs...” 😂😂😂😂
What about the 2k profit from public transport, did it improve? I like the way you improve the traffic overall, nice video again by you Biffa, it is top notch 😁😁👍👊
Just got Cities on the Xbox! Cant wait for it to finish downloading... really enjoy your videos!
Ooh exciting 👍😀
Around about the 19:50-20:20 mark when you was setting up the bus connections, when you was placing the little cross connections in the roads why did you not just use BUS ONLY roads as it would stop normal traffic crossing between the 2 roads and also allows access to emergency vehicles?? Just a thoughts and suggestion. Keep it up!
You seem to switch back and forth from setting the entering roads on a roundabout to move through. It seems to cause more issues than it solves to have them push through. The issue is that traffic slows down and then they push it causing gridlock ..
Is there a reason you dont use timed lights? I've had massive success in my high density areas using them. Is it just a preference thing?
Lights have ALWAYS made my traffic worse, without fail.
9:04 so is it just another brick in the wall that's holding up traffic?? Thank you for another great fixit video👍👍
How do you delete Lane junctions on traffic manager? Like you did at 22:20, I'm struggling with that.
Delete button
@@HowDoPlayGame I've already tried that and backspace. Doesn't work for me
Have a look at the "Stay On Lane" section of the TMPE wiki as it explains how to do that... tmpe.viathinksoft.com/wiki/index.php?title=Lane_connector
@25:00 You can upgrade to the four-lane highway without network extensions as that road is included in the base game, I believe it came with one of the DLC.
Me: My airports are busy.
Biffa: FLYING ROUNDABOUTS!
this city pretty much showed that big roads are pretty useless in CS. I'd say you never need more than 2 lanes except when you want a slip lane
Thats going a bit far IMO. But more than 3 lanes is fairly situational.
BTW, When you connect roads and highways w/o ramps they don't use the lanes correctly.
I am still waiting for a "No roundabouts" challenge.
6:20 - 6:31Biffa, you're hilarious. Never change, bud. :)
Most of the big mods should be added into the base game.

You know, sometime, the problem is just about I dont have an enough powerful pc to play with 😂
I like the fact that you choose a map of the Paris subway for the video
1:16 it's an egg-about!
just got done watching your real time mod series 1-41!
part 2 of RTM?
Whats that button next to the jnformation button? the i with something yellowish
I think that yellowish thing is a meteor, so I'm guessing it's something to do with the Natural Disasters DLC.
I am fascinated by your videos. Thank you.
When I see such cities, I always ask myself: "Who the hell creates such terrific cities?"
Sarcasm
loops are not always needed, look at the dutch metro lines for example, however where the lines meet, its very busy... (rotterdam got beurs for example, and whit trains, Holland got Utrecht as main hub where there are (i thought) 18 different platforms...
Biffa, you need to slow down and look. 4 lane one way highways are in the game. They were added with Mass Transit DLC.
Can you give any advice on using monorails? They have some nice multistations that I want to use but having both a metro AND monorail seems redundant.
Advise me please. I've realised I'm building with extreme freight in mind. I'm doing this from the very beginning, it's akin to rolling out carpet. Should I instead spread everything initially and then expand each pocket, like how conurbations merge naturally?
