Ran Vermont last year as my first 100. It can get hot through the day so when you think you are drinking enough DRINK MORE!!! I got a little dehydrated but bounced back well after the mid day heat.

Thanks for the tip! I'm hoping we get a "cooler" day but I'm not going to hold my breath! Those night time running hours will be nice temperature wise but I think they might wear on me mentally! Thanks for watching 👍

Crush it out there man! I think your plan sounds solid, I’m going for my first hundred in November. I’d rather run in the rain but that does make everything wicked slippery.

Thanks dude! Good luck in Novemeber! What race are you getting after?

Chase The Summit I’m going for Pinhoti in Alabama. I’m definitely no where near as fast as you though! I paced a buddy who ran VT100K last year and the course was beautiful. I’m tempted to head out that way to spectate and volunteer if I can swing it

Have you even made it to taper if you don't say, "hay is in the barn!" At least once?? It's required 😂

saw you on Ryan Clayton's channel yesterday, watched your other episodes and love them man! I'm in a similar situation, 3 kids, full time job, etc and love hearing and seeing a guy who's doing this in "real life". Hard to translate some of these ultra runners experience to normal people etc. thanks for the vids!

I also in a past life worked for a conveyance tech company that i'd be interested if you have worked with before. not sure what you do in warehouse automation, but I used to be a global acct manager for Intralox.

Hey D B! I think we all need a dose of "real life". It's easy to look at Elite runners on Instagram and feel like you're missing out on their epic adventures or intense training regimen. I'm certainly an "every day guy"! Thanks for watching!

@@DustinBenton Ha! That's funny. I have worked with Intralox on a few projects over the years. I work in Mechanical Design in the R&D department for a large warehouse automation company. Interesting stuff! But I'd rather be running 😂

Chase: At 2:35 you say that you've lost a few pounds. I'm not as good as you (I'm a back of the pack 50Ker, stepping up to my first 50 miler), but I too have lost some weight (20 lbs from 198 to 178; six feet tall) leading up to the race in eight weeks. Did your weight loss have any impact on your Vermont 100 performance? Was it helpful, and unrelated to the stomach issues, or do you think it had an impact? I would value your after the fact thoughts on weight loss. Thanks.

It's a very personal thing but I have an ideal weight that I think I perform at. At Vermont I was at that goal weight and felt great. My DNF was just related to insane heat and going too hard trying to hit a sub-24 time. I should have focused more on just finishing and accepting whatever time that would be. Ultimately I ended up with rhabdomyolysis after that race. It wasn't pretty!

@@ChaseTheSummit Yes, that is the first thing I also tell people, "it's very personal," which is the truth. We can't know what is going on for another person emotionally, or what their motivation might be. Fair enough. I feel like my "functional" performance is optimized at about 178, which means I feel can last the longest on my feet, and most importantly I enjoy running the most. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I'm also from New England, and Chocorua was the first mountain my father took us up when I was in elementary school. Its bald rock peak is really great!

I’d rather have 10” of rain during the race. Ok maybe not quite that much

I think I agree. Hopefully we don't end up with both 😂

What's the song playing when you show the video of the mountain and the incline you trained on?
