I’m 63 years old and have been a fan for over 30 years (!). I have been streaming them every day since the catalog got released. I was so excited when they announced it. Massive cosmic unfairness to take Dave away. RIP 🕊️ Much love to the De La Soul family.❤
I’m 57 and have been streaming non stop reliving how exciting hip hop was in the late 80’s and early 90’s….this work by De La Soul deserves to be in the pantheon of great American music!
48 here from the uk, I remember being sat in math class in around 1991 listening to the cooler kids discussing de la soul at that I was just discovering hiphop, weeks later I got hold of De La Soul is dead and fell in love with De la and hiphop and have been ever since...such a great bunch of humble legends RIP Dave
When they ran a phrase in June the world didn't catch it til December. RIP Dave. I'm still speechless. One of their best interviews right here... much of that due to Ebro's on point interviewing. Just a great watch right here.
Today I was finally able to sit in front of my computer at work, turn on my headphones and work while listening to Buhloone Mindstate. RIP DAVE. De La Soul Is Not Dead!
Two things: Rest in peace Dave (1968-2023). I thank The Creator for putting on this earth and making an impact on my life as 1/3 of the iconic group, De La Soul. Thank you. Second: I did not see any comments paying homage to Ultramagnetic MCs. When they dropped in 1986 with "Ego Tripping", their rhyme style and scheme helped the changed the trajectory of rap music. Mad respect to Ced Gee and Kool Keith aka "Dr. Octagon", as well as Moe Love and T.R. Love.
I've been listening to their catalog since last night. I'm on De La Soul is Dead now. I should be done by Monday, lol. March 3rd De La Soul Day. Congrats Dela. R.I.P The Dove 🕊🕊🕊
This is one of the greatest conversations of this year, or any year. To call these MEN vanguards of hip hop is just an understatement. Much love to Pos and Mase and RIP, Dave.
Man this almost made me cry. To rewatch. Who knew 5 years later Dave would be gone. Y'all don't know what this group meant to me/ hip hop. 89. Me myself and I. Every album since has been in my playlist. Now I listen to Dave on "here in after" and just makes a bruh sad. 😞. Godspeed Dave.🙏🏾 Salute de la kings 👑
Im guessing most people watching this have waited for what seems like a lifetime to hear this freely again. Just like in our youth. It's beautiful and tragic to arrive here now, without Dave. The music sounds fresh as ever. Groundbreakingly fresh. 3 Feet High and Rising. 1 hour and 3 minutes of pure hip hop creativity without ego, hate or violence created by 3 kids (and PP) from Long Island. Mindblowing. I felt happy and inspired after listening to the full album today. I can't wait to dive into the rest. RIP Trugoy the Dove! Peace to Mase and Pos! This music is a gift to the world!
Thank you posting this interview. My history with their music was a reflection of my life during my teenage years and I’m grateful for the moments I’m able to recall listening to those songs during that time. Rest in Peace Plug 2.
I'm so glad they mentioned Ultra Magnetic MCs. I still listen to them and remember when people couldn't feel their style. The same goes for MF DOOM. 👍🏾
It’s a bittersweet moment because of Dave’s passing but at least he knew that the tide had turned and De La were going to get their due. Big moment for Hip Hop, big moment for NY, big moment for Strong Island.
i am now aware of their existence & I'm obsessed. I was born in the late '90s so I never got hear their stuff but I've always loved underground rap. I was in that limewire/frostwire era tho. I'm so glad everything turn out the way it did for these guys. I'll make sure I stream those numbers to the moon. Much love!!!!!
OH MY MAN! WHY LIFE IS LIKE THIS? ONLY THE CREATOR KNOWS!! BUT TO THE HAPPINESS OF MASTER TRUGOY'S SOUL, HIS MUSIC WILL BE AVAILABLE TO THE NEW GENERATIONS TO COME. THE CREATOR BLESSES DE LA SOUL
I was always a music and rap lover. I searched for great albums/artists. These legends have always been atop my list and I never could hear their albums and kinda didn’t want to because they told everyone not to. It was a joyous several months leading up to last week, Dave passed. RIP. I would finally be able to play all their albums guilt free. And now it’s bitter sweet. My discomfort is nothing compared to the die hard fans and more importantly Dave’s group members, family and friends. 🙏🏾
Man thank you so much for the interview.. my fav group of all time, changed my life when Buhloone Mindstate dropped. So good to hear them answering these great questions!
Smiled all the way through this, and then a little sad at the end. Fantastic interview. Fortunate to have seen them live a few years back on the Gods of Rap Tour.
One thing nobody ever touches on with these LEGENDS is how good their live shows were. They were by far one the best hip hop concerts I have ever been to. I saw them a few times. I remember seeing them at a little place called the Magic Bag and they split the crowd and had the crowd wilding out trying to outdo each other. At one point they stop the show and asked everyone to join them in prayer. Absolutely LEGENDS!!!
Legendary.... RIP brotha DAVE & Phife Dog. We all the same ages grew up on these sounds right outta high school. wearing out the letters on the cassette tapes...
I’ve been listening to nothing but De La Soul everyday since streaming. It’s like I’m reliving thru every album that was released. I can remember how I felt when each album came out. Blasting every song
The release of the De La catalog on streaming services feels like it was done deliberately to help us all mourn yet at the same time celebrate the life of Trugoy. I obviously realize it was coincidental but I can’t help but feel there’s a message in the timing. De La Soul and the Native Tongue Family are in my opinion responsible for the best time period in hip hop history. Their music and their message changed rap and their influence on future artists is undeniable.
One of my all time favs! I have De La Soul is dead as an original on cassette tape. It may literally have been my most prized possessions over the last 30 years. So happy to see this amazing trio get their flowers. RIP Plug2
Such a profoundly historical interview, brothaz. So well executed. Thank you 4 reminding the world of what our cultural arts combined with professionalism and honesty is, can and should be.
I wasn't born while they were releasing most of their catalog, but I remember hearing "Me, Myself and I" on NCAA 06 as a kid. They instantly became the gold standard of hip-hop to me. RIP Dave! De La Soul forever!
you really can't understand unless you were there at the time how ground breaking de De la soul were 3 feet high and rising was an absolute master piece of hip hop even here in uk everyone had a copy I've still got mine
I grew up in a little town called Palmerston North, New Zealand & knew, watched & listened to De La Soul vids & music❤ That's the power influence & legacy of Hip Hop🎉

So glad it’s finally here
I feel like all those years I’ve had ‘Plug Tunin’ as my ringtone and had folks look at me crazy now the world gets it.
Best Rap Group EVER!! Timeless...
Still listen to De La to this day. Have a couple tracks on my all time hits mix.
This is important for the culture
This is a perfect interview. It's really giving insight into this amazing group.
Exactly these guys shaped and influenced some of the fashion in hip hop. They don’t get the credit they deserve
There is nothing wrong with giving guys their flowers, as DE LA rightly deserve theirs. RIP Trugoy
