Today's video is more on a serious and educational video. There's a chance serious videos tend not to perform well. When you get a chance please share this video that might help educate others around 6 most misunderstood mental disorders. It will help a lot with our mission on spreading awareness around mental health and Psychology content.
Thank you so much, I Love your Video and your Voice !! 💖 I have never been more early to this channel in my entire life wow May be today I'm first .... But it's not correct..
My “friend” recently told me that depression is a choice. If you have depression, just choose not to be sad. This was very hurtful to my other friends who deal with depression and suicidal thoughts. I should definitely share this video with this one particular friend!
@@user-xh6ju3pg8c In this case, they probably should have said depression is tough, not a joke, and that they were there to help them through it, as opposed to brushing it off as just being a choice.
@@PutingPinoy Yeah, that's a little strange. there's a comment with 441 likes and 15 replies. This has over 1,000 likes and 2 (technically 3 now) replies.
my nan has scizophrenia and she thought people were watching her. People were like 'does she see people that arent there' but she is just extremely paranoid. She is usually misunderstood
My daughter has schizophrenia and hasn't been able to make any friends because they find mental illnesses weird. It also hurts because she's 10. Jeez, I feel so sorry to anyone who a mental illness. I hope she's doing well :)
i have schizophrena. Imagine you are in a room full of ghosts of people you dont know. they wisper harmful things at you. and they clog your mind from seeing them, even though they are ghosts, they arnt there. thats how its like for me. they make you not trust other people as much because they tell lies. lies that arnt true. they hurt you. they tell you to take that razor and make one little cut, and it spirals down into hell.
I talked to the staff at my youth group thingy about my ocd and they both went “oh I do that too! I think everyone seems to have it” and stuff like that and I don’t remember last time I felt that invalidated.
I also have OCD I recently was obsessing over computer speakers on where to place them at last night which kept me up until 6 am because I couldn't decide on putting them in a spot for my liking so I just unplugged them and threw them away
It's so hard because I think they literally CAN'T understand. I have had OCD my whole life and as it got worse and worse people kept telling me, "no I double check stuff", etc... It's also hurtful when people use OCD as an excuse, like I hear all the time "I just need to tweak this, I'm a bit OCD." So I am sorry you felt invalidated. I validate you!
I don't have OCD, but recently opened up to some family members about my CPTSD, and they were like sure I think I have that too .-. Let's normalize educating ourselves about disorders that are more serious to peoples mental health!
dont have OCD but I do have GAD and I will sa IM SO GLAD SOMEONE SAID IT maybe its me but I just hate how only depression and anixety is known as mental health and there are BARElY even mentions of OCD, BPD and SO MANY MORE!! sorry if i sound rude i dont mean too! I jus hate how theres barely any freaking mention of other types of mental health and its alwyas depressio nand anxiety! oh and I gotta say I freaking feel you and everyone in the reply section alot!
I have really severe OCD and hearing everyone say they have it is kind of irritating. I have such bad symptoms that I can hardly get around anywhere, or do absolutely anything without feeling extremely distressed. I hope anyone else who has OCD can get better and find treatment. Thank you for this video and its representation.
@@silliestbilly39 I am so sorry. I only have minuscule symptoms and can't imagine what it must be like to have severe OCD. Praying for you to get better. I'm sure you know this but for me when I get thoughts, I was told to just tell yourself I have this OCD type and then just continue on because the thoughts are the opposite of who we are. But it is so hard to do this, Good luck with your battle.
Is that why your name is grammar nazi? (Just making a joke, not being serious.) I’m sorry your ocd is that bad. :( I have symptoms of ocd when it comes to certain things, but I’ve never needed medication. I also get irritated when people say they have ocd when they just like to be cleaner than most people. That’s not what ocd is...
Same here. Mine is also very severe. It really is debilitating. I can't even take showers less than 3 hours long. I have routines for literally EVERYTHING I do. My routines have routines.
I have three of these mental disorders and living your day-to-day life is difficult because people would always come come up to me and say "stop being so sad" , "you're just being dramatic" , "stop being a baby" , "stop pretending" , "you're just looking for attention" and way more hurtful things . They just don't understand because they have never been through count less traumatic situation and events to put them in this type of mindset .
My parents and some of my friends keep saying "Oh, but anxiety is not something real, you are just overreacting. And I always tried to tell them that it's a serious thing, but they don't understand :( Oh, and the same with other mental disorders
Yeah. People these days seem to think anxiety is a normal emotion, so when I want to tell someone about it, I say I have social anxiety disorder instead of just anxiety, so hopefully they’ll take me more seriously.
That kind of attitude makes mental problems worse. I wish people would learn to just listen, understand, and be sympathetic and/or empathetic. But no, everyone is a selfish asshole.
The problem is.. I'm not even confident of what I think I'm feeling. I think I have Anxiety but I think I'm just over reacting.. but I don't think a normal person has sudden breathing problems every now n then. But then again I don't believe me.. ..hehe I need help
@@svnshree7373 anxiety causes breathing issues. It’s almost like you’re having an asthma attack, except it’s not, if you don’t have asthma. My husband has asthma and my symptoms mimic his when he gets an asthma attack. It’s insanely similar. If you’re not sure, go to a professional if you can. Therapist and/or psychiatrist to get properly diagnosed. You might have it, you might not. It helps a lot to know for sure.
@@epcza13 I can't open up to my parents about this.. they won't understand. But I really think I have anxiety. I just had a anxiety attack I think right now.. because I still can't breathe properly and I can't calm down for some reason. I think I'm still having Anxiety
It's more of how the media treats it. Most of what people understand about basically anything is from the media and I am not just talking about the news. TV shows, books, games, comics, movies and etc. all heavily influence what people perceive something. So, unless we change how the media portrays anything.
@@klausd.6285 And the sad thing about the Media is that the people writing it often don't care. You get some good people sometimes, but usually it's just people looking for some random crappy beef to get some attention to whatever their running. It's stupid, it's dumb, and it's even worse when you get stuff like those stupid videos from TikTok or TH-cam or the news where they do weird stuff and tell people weird stuff and claim it's linked to mental health diagnosis's.
When you said DID i started crying. The amount of people that have asked whether my alters are psycho murderers - it makes us upset- we are normal people- just sharing a body to deal with childhood trauma
mee too i know it hurts but but after years i responded yes those psychos were my abusers and muderers were who killed my childhood be proud your asurvivor your doing great hunny🤗
i feel like BPD should have been included. its one of the most misunderstood disorders that exist and people with it are constantly labelled as manipulative or toxic and given no empathy to what they go through
@@bfailured Dammit how did I not think of that?! I was there like "But Bipolar's in the video??" haha. Yes, there's a buckaload of misinformation about BPD as well and it is incredibly sad to see all this stigma surrounding mental illnesses and disorders.
I held a speech about my OCD in one of my classes, it felt like a big step forward because it was the first time I've told such a big group about my disorder.
I'm sorry but Idk any of those characters (except Monica, but I haven't watched that much of Friends so Idk what's up with her). What exactly are you talking about?
@@mascotwithadinosaur9353 Misrepresentations of OCD in those shows. They show OCD as someone who really likes to clean, and that's not really what OCD is about.
@@sleepyote Oooh, yes. I feel like you can find decent representation sometimes (not necessarily in the mainstream) for just about any mental illness or disorder, except OCD. There's so much misinformation about it. Hope you're doing well, though unfortunately not a lot of ppl understand OCD
Gender dysphoria is also misunderstood, to my understanding, my parents KNOW what it is and how it can affect people, but they don't seem to know why it makes me so self conscious about stuff, could you maybe do a video on that?
Hi! If you’re reading this, know that you are a wonderful person that deserves happiness! Also remember to take care of yourself. Self care is very important okay Thank you and have a pleasant life
@Selin Schmidt Hi, a crying face. I hope you find that friend, family member or mental health support person who *is* there for you. It is hard being alone in it. Safe hugs if ok
Ive expected u guys to put antisocal personality disorder and Borderline Personality disorder in that list, since they both are very misunderstood and suffer from stigma around them
DID and Schiz are more misunderstood. APD and BPD aren't as much. they don't have as dangerous stigmas around them (i hate Split for this very reason) -Crack
@@quietwarriors4679 yes ur right, did and scizophenia are also very misunderstood, but when I wrote this commentary they didnt came to my mind. In my opinion they just didn‘t realy chose the right disorders
@@raven6550 We are VERY glad they finally brought up DID again. while in YOUR mind they didn't "choose the right ones", and i agree, OCD and GAD are more commonly known then APD and BPD, DID and Schiz have VERY dangerous stigmas around them. I apologise if i sound harsh, i'm trying my hardest to be nice and polite. It's not easy for me. -Crack
I think most - if not all - of the mental disorders are misunderstood. When I was younger I didn't know anything about those. When I was hearing about someone who went to the therapist or psychologist, I was thinking about a crazy person and I was somewhat scared. Now I still don't know much about it, but I try to not judge without knowing what I'm talking about. It is very important for all of us to understand the difference between illness and someone who just had a bad day. Thank you for spreading such important information!
I was diagnosed with GAD. And I can confirm that your description of it was perfect. I also have ADHD, which most people believe to be a fake diagnosis or it means you can't sit still, and you're just going to be super annoying all the time. In truth, most people with ADHD are intelligent, fun, and quirky. We need to constantly be moving in order to stimulate ourselves, and our minds are moving a thousand miles per hour 24/7. We don't get a break.
Yeah and some people who call themselves people with ADHD but isn't psychically active all the time are people with ADD (same thing with ADHD just get rid of the Hyperactive part) which I have I'm lucky to not been bullied over this but I can easily see how some people would hurt people with ADD with the same thinking as ADHD Now a days ADD and ADHD are pretty much interchangeable, only professionals really say any difference
I have ADD. People have called me a rebel, lazy, and stupid because of my issues focusing on things and the like. I also have MDD and GAD which just......... No Bueno, that's all I can say. I know how you feel. Stay safe!
Hi everyone I'm Diana. I started writing about myself in comments and alot of people replied with similar stories and great advice🧡 Now I'm out of my abusive relationship.. I'm finally free. I don't feel attached and I'm not scared anymore. I'm slowly gaining back my confidence and fixing my health. I'm grateful for all the support I got even though it was through strangers. #feelingblessed😇
@@elliottXO my partner was told if she's hearing the same 'voices' consistently and they telling you things that aren't malicious then it's more likely DID over schizophrenia.
It's sad to know that even though depression is very common mental disorder, it's extremely stigmatized. Especially different variants of depression like PDD, Atypical etc are not taken seriously. I hope a day comes when mental illnesses are taken as seriously as physical illness. We've a long way to go.
As someone professionally diagnosed with ADD since childhood, I often get brushsed off when I say I have it and or when I try to explain it someone would say like that "Oh I get distracted too!MaYbe I hAvE aDd" like they only think means "LOOK SQUIRREL" like it CAN be it but it's also A LOT MORE and everyone keeps self diagnosing and then when I say I have ADD, their response is, "doesn't everyone??" Also A.D.D & ADHD is not a "mans disorder" is equally gendered women are just UNDER DIAGNOSED, mainly people just brush off their weird behaviors with their period and or "thats just how women are" Edit: DISTRACTION DOES NOT EQUAL A.D.D
Omfg just reading this makes me pissed- I have ADD and holy crap is that annoying (Don't worry got the diagnosis from a professional not from a video) Edit: also the 'Mans disorder' part annoys me since I have two 'Mans disorders' (I'm AFAB (Assigned Female At Birth) and I've heard over and over on the internet (not to me but to other people) and DAMN that's annoying
same here i have adhd and my dad once tried to legit say and i quote "you dont have adhd you sit down all the time and your lazy" i apsolutely destroyed him with facts layter but him and my aunt are still so freeking annoying and offensive all the time my aunt convinced my brother to go off his medication because he can grow out of his mental disorder and that takeing medication makes us "druggys" she even once called me disabled and my dad did NOTHING luckaly im fairly educated in mental health so i know there wrong but still they are just so wrong
this is the most beautiful qoutes that I have ever read. I love it I really need word like this. its better than toxic people word that always bringing me down I may look strong on the outside but inside I am dying
I think BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) also has harmful stigmas. Well, definitely, but it manifests in ways you might not realize. BPD stigma can be people demonizing people with BPD symptoms by calling them "crazy", "obsessive", and "too much work".
there's one channel on youtube that is obsessed with posting videos saying women with bpd are abusive -- it's only women though, not men with bpd lol. it's a really awful channel and the comments on those videos are awful as well
OCD is really misunderstood. I’ve been diagnosed since I was 11, it’s really hard to deal with. I hate when people say the have ocd when they clean 1 thing.
I have GAD, and when I told someone I was diagnosed with “general anxiety” they just said “well yeah everyone gets anxious” and walked away. Thanks for this video, maybe people will be less likely to tell me that.
I was diagnosed with DID (dissociative identity disorder) when I was a little bit younger then I am now and its been a long, painful healing journey.... it definitely is a severely misunderstood disorder.. I had a feeling it would be in this video.. thanks for the recognition!
@@sakimiura1712 I feel like I'm still meeting them but the most common ones that continuously come up is around 5 or so I'd say. But with a lot of therapy and inner work, a lot of them are becoming 'quiet' or seem to be slowly integrating so it's hard to tell. The most common and consistent one though is my youngest alters because those carry a lot of pain unfortunately.
my moms gonna find me a therapist soon enough to help w my depression. ive know that i was depressed for a while, but my mom noticing and telling me that i need help gave me hope :) i may feel like this forever or for a little, but with help i think i’m gonna be okay
Often the cost of pursuing a pleasure cannot be accounted for at the outset because when the pursuit robs you of your awareness of yourself, of your interaction with life and of your appreciation of your own existence, such a great price goes unnoticed. Yet, people pay it because they are depressed and angry and lack value and meaning in their lives. They are paying the price all the time. They often associate their suffering with other things, so they seek greater pleasures, which exact great prices, and their dilemma and depression become deeper. In fact, their depression can become so deep that it is like a dark cell with no windows where no light can penetrate. From Wisdom from the Greater Community Volume II, Chapter 3: Pleasure, by Marshall Vian Summers
@@chadfalardeau5396 Depends on which version of the ICD your country uses (the most recent one is the ICD-11). For example, the U.K DSM-V still uses the term "r*tard" in the autism page. Depends too on how well updated it's the mental health system of your country. Nowadays there are two types of ADHD: Inattentive (formerly ADD) and Hyperactive.
@@cutiiepiedustyy8421I live in Canada. My dr.may have used ADD simply because it's a well known term for my condition. I'm definitely not hyper except in my thoughts
As a person with OCD it is frustrating to see others misconceptions of it. I’m also happy that you have made this kind of education accessible to all. I can better understand those with mental illnesses around me and know how to respond. Thanks again.
I don’t know if diagnoses are that important. If you seriously feel like you have something, you more than likely do. Just do your research on it and then look up treatment options. A lot of things you can actually do yourself nowadays. Plus, there are online support groups.
Therapy is very difficult to get if you cannot afford a private therapist (btw if you're American then I don't know how the system works there, I only have experience from the UK, specifically England), but there are waiting lists you can get on to get it for free via the NHS. Of course, if you aren't British and this isn't an option, please don't lose hope!! Self-diagnosing is okay if you've done the research, you're being honest with yourself, and you simply cannot access an official diagnosis. And beyond the diagnosis, in terms of getting help with any mental health issues you have, it is possible to get through it without therapy; I'll admit it's more challenging, but you can do it. There are so many incredible free resources online that offer fantastic advice as well as online communities that offer sympathy. I don't know what you're going through, but I do know that you can do this. You can fight through whatever you are facing, as so many people have done before and will continue to do, using whatever resources you have, however limited. Sending you so much love and I hope everything turns out okay (in fact, I KNOW everything will turn out okay!)
Same I'm literally too scared to even go to therapy Like what am I gonna say? Are they gonna judge me or something? Am I gonna waste money for nothing? Are they gonna give some crummy advice that I've heard 100000 times that doesn't work like "just enjoy what you have"? "How are you feeling" IDK MY ENTIRE BRAIN IS FOGGY I DON'T UNDERSTAND FEELINGS LMAO Edit: I'M SORRY FOR OVERSHARING IDK WHY I DO THIS HHSHJSHHJ
OCD is no joke, and this is coming from someone who's symptoms came up just two years ago. It was hard, brutal, and very scary. I'm glad I've grown as a person.
The OCD one really hit home. I used to have a penpal from Japan that suffered from it and that is when I learned OCD is so much more than just being 'extremely clean'. We had to break it off in the end because her OCD got so bad at one point, that she threw away nearly all of her belongings and letters. I hope she is doing better, especially as mental health is even more stigmatized in Japan :(. Please don't throw around terms such as 'I have OCD' just because you like things to stay tidy lmao
As someone suffering from bipolar disorder, I hate when people say "Ah, and I'm bipolar!" just because they are moody or a bit energetic. You wouldn't go around saying you have cancer so lightly, so you shouldn't talk about a another illness like that. My go to when this happens is "When were you diagnosed?" which always confuses them. It's like they don't even know it's an actual disease.
As a person with ASPD, I'd put mine up there in the misunderstood conditions. I'm tired of trying to explain to people that my brain doesn't work like theirs and I can't be sad that their grandma died, damn it. I'll apologize if I've done something wrong but that's all you're gonna get: a polite apology. I'm not going to cry and grovel at your feet with regret. Oh yes and any new person I meet, if they find out, starts to think I'm going to murder them in their sleep or something. Resources online are incredibly misleading a lot of the time too.
I was diagnosed with high functioning autism and people always seem to get it mixed up with adhd/add. Most of my symptoms of autism revolve around me not being able to focus on schoolwork to the point where I've been failing school (I'm trying to get better now and I hope it works). People usually associate it with adhd but it's also a common symptom in high functioning autism.
Oof I hope that your consitration gets better/find better ways to consitrate! Also as someone with autism that quite annoying too, the 'no consitration = ADHD' thing-
Hey this was a very much needed video, as I have MDD and GAD, and my brothers have OCD, But I can’t help but say, I was kinda sad to see adhd wasn’t on this still for the video, as it’s SO miss understood, it took me so long to get diagnosed BECAUSE both my family and myself miss understood adhd. As it’s so much more than just not being able to focus. We can have major rejection dysphoria, get throw ourselves into panic attacks because we just can’t seem to get any info for your test into your head, it’s the constant anxiety and fear of forgetting something important, it’s the depression of not feeling good enough, or feeling you’re just not tying hard enough, it’s the controversial pills many of us need to take to do basic task, it’s the pressure to sell those pills because they’re just so expensive, it’s being dismissed and ignored by doctor after doctor saying that there’s nothing wrong and that you’re just “trying to get the pills” or “you just need to learn to focus” or “you just need to grow up and behave” and we never.... never can escape... I just want people to understand... untreated adhd has caused me to attempt to end my life multiple times... though I’m doing a lot better now that I’m being treated, I really want people to understand adhd is a really big deal and that it is something that needs to be brought into the proper light. Sorry for the rant... I’ve just been frustrated about this lately.
ADD or ADHD is not a mental disorder, but a neuronal anomaly. Same as autism. Also highly misunderstood. People cannot seem to grasp how your brain is wired incorrectly
It's so nice to have channels like yours to educate people on mental health. As a person with a heavy diagnosis (generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, severe depression, insomnia, PTSD and borderline personality disorder) it's nice to have people explaining to others what we go through. I hate when people look at me and doubt me because "I look normal". Well yes and I worked hard on myself to cope with all this and still do. It's not easy to hear all the judgements that's people have: dangerous, crazy, lazy, lack of ambition, drama queen....
I was recently diagnosed with Gad and Depression . Thank you for posting this! It gave me a better understanding! I hope that everyone has a great day !
I knew that i had ocd. That was clear from the beginning. But when i realize that i had depression was when my ocd was getting so much worse than usual. I felt lack of sleep, couldn‘t even fall asleep at night. Even though i did, i woke up in three hours. This results in persistent tiredness. That’s why i became so sensitive to external stimuli. Just a noise made from children outside starts to trigger me so much. I got irritated so easily. Then i started to have some back pains (according to the doctor, back pain could be caused by the depression). My pms symptoms got so much worse, too. All these symptoms gets much worse by the time when my period comes and gets better after the period. I had over 10 symptoms including suicidal thoughts... The idea was that these terrible moments keep coming every month and i‘m so affected right now... and there would be so much harder times in my life later on, how could i stand such pressure? I do not deserve to live... I‘m now on a medication and feel so much better. Except the fact that i gained some weight because of this, but really, if i had not seen a doctor and had no support from my family and my bf, i wouldn‘t be where i am right now.
I've been getting diagnosed with DID and have been diagnosed and put on medication for MDD, this video was incredibly helpful to those who misunderstand what I feel! Thank you so much for this! -Alex
Ppl misunderstand ADHD and DPD too. *Edit: because of what I went through at my elementary school that didn't think ADHD is real, I now have anxiety, triggered social anxiety, and depression.
Chrono fatigue is also extremely misunderstood, people always tell me “just go to bed earlier” “I’m tired too” “that’s the same as burnout, I have that” no, it doesn’t work that way, chronic fatigue doesn’t go away no matter how much sleep you get (hence the word CHRONIC) and burnout is completely different but I don’t know how to explain it. With chronic fatigue you can even get out of bed, just lifting an arm can be impossible to do
This channel helps me learn more about what school should be teaching me instead of stupid letters in math. I hope you all don't stop cuz your really making a difference ❤
I have chronic depression and anxiety and half the time I get told a lot that it’s all in my head and I’m seeking attention. Wish these were more understood.
I am diagnosed with Bipolar 2 disorder. I get made fun of at school because of my cuts and everything just seems to painful for me in this moment. Whoever’s reading this I hope you are having a good day. ❤️❤️
I think also a misunderstood mental disorder could be social anxiety or social fobia, because people always think that is a fear to speak in front of a lot of people or in a crowded room, when it´s more than that, you get stressed for simple things like sending a text or an email, or you plan every single thing you are going to say or also your movements with unknown people or even with people you allready know
I didn’t know there was a anxiety disorder. I thought everybody just had anxiety. Sometimes I get overwhelmed randomly by the dumbest things, and I didn’t realize it was a disorder. until sixth grade, I started having anxiety attacks when I was three and overtime. They got worse from hyper ventilating and not being able to breathe.
I think another very misunderstood mental disorder is psycopathy and sociopathy, the media and people often see those as just serial killers or emotionless murderers, and it is saddening to see.
I have a few conditions that make it very hard to live a normal life. People think they have what I do because they have similar symptoms but it’s so much more than that. Don’t pretend to have things to get attention or to hurt people who do have them. It really, really invalidates us and makes us feel awful. Thank you for listening and have a swell day.
Oof. The feeling when you have ADHD, Persistent Depressive Disorder and C-PTSD and near nobody is aware or believes a single one of those. I've literally had to educate therapists because in ~95% of diagnostic cases, C-PTSD is not recognized all that much... yet. For how long? Who knows how many years until the DSM sorts out its internal politics and shift from fiduciary responsibility to revenue :/
Thank you! I have one of these! So often not discussed or understood. So tired of hiding it from everyone but it is so not accepted. Thank you for all you do!!
thank you for trying to break the stigma on many mental disorders. i have bipolar 1 with rapid cycling (diagnosed four different times by four different health professionals) and hearing people saying "oh i'm so bipolar" or, like you said, interchanging bipolar and mood swings, makes me very angry. so thank you, sincerely, for helping us break stigmas.
I think I have anxiety from a past trama, so my sisters in a mental hospital and my sisters not doing well and my brother is manipulation king and my parents are 'picture perfect,' so this helps me alot
I have ADHD(Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and AD(Alzheimer's Disease) and I find it very frustrating when people say "I can't focus and I'm hyper so I have ADHD" or when people say "I forgot 5 things in my life that happened a while ago so I have Alzheimer's Disease." They think it's good and cool to have disorders. They think it makes you a cool person to have disorders. But truly, it's not simple as that, and as someone diagnosed with these, I can tell, they definitely don't have those disorders.
Sometimes when I tell people about different disorders and conditions they say that They do it too or maybe they have that disorder... 😒 This is very irritating because they think that having a common thing with that disorder means they have it too 😕
bro im like “my ocd tendencies are messing me up, im really evening out. i cant stop!” then they go “bro me to one time i had to close and open a door bc of my ✌️undiagnosed ocd✌️”
I hate when people joke about depression or make jokes related to that or any other mental illness/disability i don't think i have any of this but it's just discosting to see this lack of empathy for people with conflicts even really good people that i know some times make jokes about sucide and that is just wrong.Pd:sorry if my english it's bad it is not my main language
We are so happy that you included DID in this video, as someone with DID it sucks to lose friends or family due to the negative portrayal of DID in media, since in the past we've lost a few friends because they thought that we were "dangerous killers" and they were scared of us. We are happy that recently on YT and Tiktok a lot of DID systems are speaking up against the negative portrayal of DID especially movies like "Split" and how that has damaged the community.- Ahdramaleck
Just wanted to say thanks for spreading awareness and I wish love, healing, and peace to all watching this video to now and forever. I have a good day!
I love this channel! and this was a great video! I was a little surprised to see you didn’t mention borderline personality disorder even though I know it’s not classified on the same spectrum of these mental illness like depression but I am trying to educate my family more about borderline personality disorder, i’ve shown them all of the videos you have on borderline already so if you’re able to make another one about BPD that would be so so so very helpful 💕💕💕💕
i super appreciate you making these videos of accessible information, as someone who has almost all of the disorders in this video (along with other misunderstood ones)! i've often been misunderstood when i tell people i have them, even getting people mocking my psychosis or getting a reply like "oh yeah haha i'm SO bipolar/OCD" as though it's just some meaningless adjective. even worse is people who think that i must be a horrible person who would kill someone due to my dissociative disorder and psychosis. it's...not very fun. anyways, i appreciate this video a lot! the growing amount of useful and correct information like this will hopefully help the public consciousness more and more, to the point those with these conditions won't have to deal with ignorant people anymore :)
My ex girlfrined was bipolar. I can tell you that, when she was stable she was just so awesome and jolly, but when she entered a manic and then depressed episode it was like hell. One day she could tell me she wanted so spend everyday with me and the next she said nothing, leaving me wondering what I did wrong. i could not handled it long term... I Wish you all in a relationship with a bipolar person the best of luck, I couldnt win that fight...
@Selin Schmidt These mental disorders hurt (in a uncontrolable way) both the person that has it and the ones in the recieving end... Hope you are good and happy nowadays Selin, good luck in your life wish you the best!
My name is Joey and I suffer from several severe mental disorders along with a lot of other mental illnesses. I in fact have every single one of these disorders and having them combined and having them all together is the most horrific and painful mental anguish day in and day out! My mind literally runs me! I have some good days but alot fewer compared to not! Thank you again and God bless
With DID you just covered the "identity disorder"-form. DID has also other forms. The most known one is the rarest. As I remember, DID has 5 different forms. One can have more than one form, all forms or just one form. One thing that all forms have in common are, that they are triggered when being some sort of retraumatised or expieriencing a "new" trauma.
I'm so glad that DID was touched on in this video. As someone with possible DID/OSDD, it feels almost dehumanizing to see media inaccurately portraying and even faking this disorder, and it makes me sad to see that there's a big negative stigma around DID/OSDD. Even one of my closest friends believed the way that popular media portrays this disorder before we told him about all of us. It doesn't take that much effort to look up articles and real sources about something mental health related, and I'm glad your channel is here to help inform people in a way. Thank you for this.
I hate when people believe that bipolar disorder means that you shift quicky beween "happy" and "sad", when actually you go through days of hectic hebaviour, extreme anxiety, irritability and insomnia followed by a long period of depression, hypersomnia and no motivation to do anything at all.
I have a friend who's both schizophrenic and has OCD as well. I love her so much. Hearing about all the painful experiences and misunderstandings she's had with both friends and family in her past really makes my heart ache, but it's true😢. I'm glad she's in a better place now and that awareness of these things is being spread out bit by bit
ADHD is highly misunderstood as well, I feel someone should be said about it and what ALL the effects are, because its not what ppl think it is, its more and theres also good to it, even thoo ppl just see the bad in these kinds of things
As someone with MDD and GAD, they're both debilitating to live with and I wish people could understand that even with the meds I'm on, it doesn't just get better or disappear
Could we please get a video about trichotillomania? I've never met a person who had heard about it and I'd really appreciate it if you could spread the word about it
Sad truth, D.I.D. has little to no treatment options, I have been diagnosed since 7, now 33. Therapy helps to keep track of days, weeks, months. Otherwise you risk getting lost. I ended up homeless for ten years due to my D.I.D. I also have more than ten alters, this is one rare moment of self. Enjoy life everyone, I do.
Today's video is more on a serious and educational video. There's a chance serious videos tend not to perform well. When you get a chance please share this video that might help educate others around 6 most misunderstood mental disorders. It will help a lot with our mission on spreading awareness around mental health and Psychology content.

My “friend” recently told me that depression is a choice. If you have depression, just choose not to be sad. This was very hurtful to my other friends who deal with depression and suicidal thoughts. I should definitely share this video with this one particular friend!
People don't want to hurt others but they end up hurting
What are they actually supposed to say to comfort them?
@@user-xh6ju3pg8c In this case, they probably should have said depression is tough, not a joke, and that they were there to help them through it, as opposed to brushing it off as just being a choice.

Together, we all can end the mental health stigma by understanding, not dismissing or passing them off to someone else
It's more of how the media treats it. Most of what people understand about basically anything is from the media and I am not just talking about the news. I was diagnosed with GAD. And I can confirm that your description of it was perfect. I also have ADHD, which most people believe to be a fake diagnosis or it means you can't sit still, and you're just going to be super annoying all the time.

Sending you so much love and I hope everything turns out okay (in fact, I KNOW everything will turn out okay!)
i hope you get better❤️❤️

It's so nice to have channels like yours to educate people on mental health. As a person with a heavy diagnosis (generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, severe depression, insomnia, PTSD and borderline personality disorder) it's nice to have people explaining to others what we go through. It's not easy to hear all the judgements that's people have: dangerous, crazy, lazy, lack of ambition, drama queen....
Thank you for talking about DID, I feel like it gets ignored a lot when talking about mental health.
I was recently diagnosed with Gad and Depression . Thank you for posting this! It gave me a better understanding! I hope that everyone has a great day !
Thank you for educating people ❤️ I have GAD and OCD, and I want people to understand it better
As someone diagnosed with borderline the amount of bad stigma with it sucks. People think borderline is just being over dramatic.
I'm suffering from grief,PSTD and depression I really really like your videos please don't stop making these type of videos they really really help me
We won't! I hope you already got the help you needed
Making a comment about my psychosis, and this drops in reconnendations. Big bro.
I have ADHD, OCD, GAD, PTSD, and autism. I’ve also suffered from clinical depression in my life. I just wish more people understood.
At this point you have a fucking collection, but i hope youre doing good now
You guys should make a part two to this video and include phobias and eating disorders because they're both highly misunderstood.
Great suggestion
I have chronic depression and anxiety and half the time I get told a lot that it’s all in my head and I’m seeking attention. Wish these were more understood.
I feel sorry for those who had legit OCD and gets invalidated by those around them, since I also at some point still misunderstoods the meaning of OCD
Same,,
Biggest trigger for someone with OCD is someone else says they have OCD _just because they want everything in order, etc._
1. Schizophrenia 0:41
2. Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) 1:22
3: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) 2:05
4: Bipolar Disorder 2:43
5: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) 3:56
6: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) 4:32
You forgot anxiety disorder >_
Who knows how many years until the DSM sorts out its internal politics and shift from fiduciary responsibility to revenue :/
idk why but it frustrates me so much how so many people think OCD is being a perfectionist. Like, no you don't have ocd you are just a perfectionist.
Totally. Also I'd love if people also knew the term OCPD. If I understood correctly it has more of the perfectionism than OCD.
Parents: "The internet is a dangerous place."
Said internet:
How did u do that
How do you use that emoji omg
Cool emoji
🙃🙃
I forgot how to do it lol
Thank you! I have one of these! So often not discussed or understood. So tired of hiding it from everyone but it is so not accepted. Thank you for all you do!!
We needed this video
Hope it can help! - Cindy
@@Psych2go much appreciated 😊
thank you for trying to break the stigma on many mental disorders. i have bipolar 1 with rapid cycling (diagnosed four different times by four different health professionals) and hearing people saying "oh i'm so bipolar" or, like you said, interchanging bipolar and mood swings, makes me very angry. so thank you, sincerely, for helping us break stigmas.
Ahh I’m early! Thank you for this you’ve helped me a lot over the past few months! 😊
Thanks for tuning in early! Glad to hear we've helped you over the past few months! - Cindy
So happy for you! :)
Sometimes when I tell people about different disorders and conditions they say that They do it too or maybe they have that disorder... 😒 This is very irritating because they think that having a common thing with that disorder means they have it too 😕
bro im like “my ocd tendencies are messing me up, im really evening out. i cant stop!”
then they go “bro me to one time i had to close and open a door bc of my ✌️undiagnosed ocd✌️”
Thank you for this
Just wanted to say thanks for spreading awareness and I wish love, healing, and peace to all watching this video to now and forever.
Make more videos on BPD please. Thanks ❤️
I have severe depression, borderline, and ocd. It's definitely frustrating when people make assumptions about me based of what they think they know
I was kinda expecting BPD cuz it's often confused with bipolar and stuff too
I hate when people believe that bipolar disorder means that you shift quicky beween "happy" and "sad", when actually you go through days of hectic hebaviour, extreme anxiety, irritability and insomnia followed by a long period of depression, hypersomnia and no motivation to do anything at all.
Whenever I watch their videos it feels like I'm consulting a medical professional
1. Schizophrenia
2. Dissociative identity disorder
3. Major depressive disorder
4. Bipolar
5. OCD
6. Generalized anxiety disorder
Could you do a video specifically on DID ? I think it's so stigmatized, that it deserves it's own video :)
