"Papa, please! Forgive me!" est magistral ! Vraiment !
LeGrand and Dessay -- two superlative artists together giving a performance beyond words. No operatic artist has done a crossover like this -- as an operatic artist she is a great interpreter of text and music -- so much as Callas was. Thank you Dearest Natalie
I would say that this was surprisingly moving, but Dessay has always been a fabulously talented actress who brings the characters she portrays to life. She really made this standard her own.
I love how Natalie can sing a non operatic song without having that classical overtones which most opera singers cant get rid of. I hope you understand what i mean many classical trained singers always sound clissically trained when singing a "normal" song but Natalie can switch so easily from one to another, a testiment to her amazing vocal skills.
Loved it. Can't believe the incredible quality of Ms. Dessay in pretty much everything I've heard her sing. And this is so touching, something quite out of her usual genre. As for the piano interpretation, Michel Legrand is still that..."Grand".
You have wonderful pronunciation in English. Les "h's" sont là. The "h's" are all there. Brava!!
God - our heavenly Father Oh God - and my father Who is also in heaven May the light Of this flickering candle Illuminates the night the way Your spirit illuminates my soul Papa, can you hear me? Papa, can you see me? Papa, can you find me in the night? Papa, are you near me? Papa, can you hear me? Papa, can you help me not be Frightened? Looking at the skies I seem to see a million eyes Which ones are yours? Where are you now that yersterday Has waved goodbye And closed its doors? The night is so much darker. The wind is so much colder The world I see is so much bigger Now that I'm alone Papa, please forgive me Try to understand me Papa, don't you know I had no choice? Can you hear me praying Anything I'm saying Even though the night is filled With voices? I remember ev'rything you thaught me Every book I've ever read Can all the words in all the books Help me to face what lies ahead? The trees are so much taller And I feel so much smaller The moon is twice as lonely And the stars are half as bright Papa, how I love you. Papa, how I need you. Papa, how I miss you Kissing me goodnight
Her tone quality is BEAST! She sounds like someone in her who's a great vocal technique. Does anyone knows of she has ever written books about voice and vocal tecnique?
What an interpreter ! and what a composer ! in my opinion, this is the perfect song, and this version is at least as beautiful as the original ! merci, thank you
You prolly dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the latest series on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my gf during the lockdown xD
Just FYI... a singer gifted with a soaring coloratura soprano instrument is probably not going to have Barbara Streisand's belting powerful voice too. Doesn't work like that, you can't have it all. Therefore you would expect a different interpretation or vibe from Ms Dessay even if she sang this in her younger years, you would have this difference. By the way she has not lost her voice, it is still clear and quite an excellent lyric/coloratura soprano instrument, even if her range is not as free at the edges.
She quit opera in 2015, after ten years of quitting roles periodically because her voice was failing her. She has had multiple vocal problems and surgery.
I'm a huge fan of both Streisand & Dessay. But I always find it hard to like songs opera singers sings when they do cross over, probably because the way they used their voices covering contemporary songs, they don't belt in chest voice, they go straight into head voice when the notes are higher. While Dessay's interpretation is great, full of emotions, I am not getting that same tonal resonance, goosebumps effect that Streisand does so well!
Lol...This woman is a classical soprano coloratura. Air or high notes aren´t nothing to her.
Yes, and why not by an another singer who has voice for this kind of song not so easy ? Furthermore, composed by Michel Legrand who si a good friend oh her too, he likes both Barbra and Natalie. I'm a really great fan of Barbra, but I have listen to Natalie Dessay. She gives a good work and just breath here, doesn't she ? She is a singing actress like she likes talking about her.
I am not a professionnal singer, I would not be able to detect the imperfections some seems not to be able to accept. It would be surprising to know this excellent opera singer cannot control well the singing technique. I chose to believe she preferred a more simple and as authentic as possible interpretation.
So you think opera singers are masters at other singing techniques used by contemporary singers. Nope it doesn't work like that, and opera singers are not superior either
LMAAAOOO,she doesnt have cancer in her voice tf,she has a surgery in her larynx way back 2002 and 2003,her voice is okay, but change a lot because she sang heavy roles that doesnt fit on her voice

Cause you are comparing the greatest non-operatic singers of the 20th century (Streisand) with a very good operatic singer out of the many (Dessay) Streisand is an unrepeatable phenomenon
Average, at best. Epsecially when you know Streisand's version. I guess Legrand is getting old cannot hear as well as used to... C'est vraiment pas terrible...
she's giving this her own interpretation. if we wanted Streisand only - then we'd listen to Streisand. Streisand is an original. Beautiful and the clarity and purity and power of her voice during the Yentl years is timeless. This is a good interpretation too by Natalie. A little more soulful and bluesy...Streisand's isn't. It depends on what you're looking for but I think it's a tough song to sing because you have the have the flexibility in your vocal chords to work the scales. I give credit where it's due because I know I can't - especially after vocal surgery!
Ninjacatprincess Please listen to early Barbra Streisand stuff, bluesy and jazzy like no one else but I agree that I was not waiting Dessay to be Streisand here, it's just that it's not that great. I'm a vocalist by the way
Michel Legrand m'aura bercé toute ma vie. Merci
RIP Maestro Michel Legrand. Thank you for sharing your gift with us...
Quelle perfection d'interprétation! Tant d'émotion.... Merci
"Papa, please! Forgive me!" est magistral ! Vraiment !

OMG, this is the most beautiful song I've heard today....
That was definitely an unusual composition for her. Her incredible voice did not let her down. The piano was absolute perfection.
And since in English without a French accent that’s no small deal either
It continues to astound me that once you hear Streisand perform a song, whatever it may be, there's NO ONE who can do it better.

Monsieur Michel Le Grand, indeed! Phenomenal mix of different genres with a great level of sensitivity, in my opinion. :)
I can only say: excellent!!!!!!!! Thanks for this energetic message ....
Que d'émotions ! merci
Émouvant ! Merci pour cette moment magnifique. Hommage a mon papa....trop tôt parti au Ciel....
Betty Muntan oui je suis d acord😘😘😘 plaine De bisou a ton papa!!
Oh just beautiful and oh so emotional; one can cry through hearing this!!
You have wonderful pronunciation in English. Les "h's" sont là. The "h's" are all there. Brava!!
Sublime interprétation !
God - our heavenly Father
Oh God - and my father
Who is also in heaven
May the light
Of this flickering candle
Illuminates the night the way
Your spirit illuminates my soul
Papa, can you hear me?
Papa, can you see me?
Papa, can you find me in the night?
Papa, are you near me?
Papa, can you hear me?
Papa, can you help me not be
Frightened?
Looking at the skies
I seem to see a million eyes
Which ones are yours?
Where are you now that yersterday
Has waved goodbye
And closed its doors?
The night is so much darker.
The wind is so much colder
The world I see is so much bigger
Now that I'm alone
Papa, please forgive me
Try to understand me
Papa, don't you know I had no choice?
Can you hear me praying
Anything I'm saying
Even though the night is filled
With voices?
I remember ev'rything you thaught me
Every book I've ever read
Can all the words in all the books
Help me to face what lies ahead?
The trees are so much taller
And I feel so much smaller
The moon is twice as lonely
And the stars are half as bright
Papa, how I love you.
Papa, how I need you.
Papa, how I miss you
Kissing me goodnight
That's what we call an interpretation... ❤️
Deeply touching. Beautiful
I love this version! I LOVE!
bravo!!! i have no words to say how i loved it/ just wanted to cry
Wonderfull interpretation!

It's unbelievable fantastic! Brava!
Such a stunning piece
Beautifully done!

Just tears....

Wow wounderful. Not an easy song to sing at all.

@Cannon Cohen Yea, been watching on InstaFlixxer for since december myself :D
You're a true gem, Nata
You really can't compare the two and it's not fair to! Two different types of voices and training!
I agree with you whole heartedly. Plus, we're the luckier for it that two amazing vocal artists recorded this beautiful song.
What a genius!!!
Ez valami fantasztikus!!! Wawww amasing!!!!
pleasant to the ears
fabuleux avec Michel Legrand
Una bella canción.
I'm melting!
🎼🎼🎼🎼🎶🎵excellent

i lova you natalieeeee
dessay ah love you forever!!!!!!!
Also good is Jessye Norman with John Williams at the piano.
Wow, I love all the [t]s and how there is no pitch or vowel when she says "papa", just little puffs.
🥺
wooowwww
Very nice effort.
Very intense...
❤️❤️❤️
Second chances.
"I remember everything you taught me, every book I've ever read. Can all the words in all the books help me to face what lies ahead?"
He just has 2 pieces of toast on each sides of his piano lmao
Lol...This woman is a classical soprano coloratura. Air or high notes aren´t nothing to her.
Precisely.
STREISAND is the QUEEN !!!!

BBM
Do you wanna build a snow man :(
she lost her voice beacuse of cancer.. i wish it never happened.. 😩😞
She doesn't have a cancer?!
I didn't know it either. As a musician myself, I really can't hear any (technical) problems in her voice.
LMAAAOOO,she doesnt have cancer in her voice tf,she has a surgery in her larynx way back 2002 and 2003,her voice is okay, but change a lot because she sang heavy roles that doesnt fit on her voice

oui en meilleur
