I love the close-ups of their faces. I love to see them thinking and to watch the expressions on their faces as they communicate with each other. You see how they collaborate and engage on the fine points that only the two of them seem to be able to recognize . This is a great video and I am happy to have found it. There’s a certain magic involved with David Leans perspective and I love learning about that.
Not enough captions. Bolt is difficult to understand and only partially captioned. So - this is only semi -successful as a video. Lovely to see David Lean who was a genius at filmmaking. One of the giants.
Great & fascinating! Such a shame NOSTROMO never materialised due to David’s ♋️ & i 🤔 it’d have been much better than PASSAGE TO INDIA: Robert didn’t that (which shows) & seems too much like a sunday night ITV 🎥
Zhivago wasn’t nearly as successful a film as Lawrence of Arabia. Hard to follow and understand. But Lawrence of Arabia was a masterpiece and one of the top films of all time. Lean’s best.
Actually not true. Zhivago was a box office smash that netted Lean millions of dollars. He was financially settled for life, and gave generously to various charities too. But yes, critically, Lawrence is the better film, and in the top five of all in time in my humble opinion.
Lean wanted to film Zhivago in 65mm as he had done with LOA but unfortunately the producer, Carlo Ponti, nixed the idea. It would have been an even more amazing looking film if Lean had gotten his way. It most likely would have gotten regular revival screenings during 70mm festivals too.
Beautiful! I am surprised not many people viewed and liked it, but I certainly did.
