- A new announcement on London buses designed to help passengers has been introduced, but the timing is slightly off. A technical glitch is being blamed for the fact that the warning "please hold on the bus is about to move" plays after it's begun to move. BBC London’s Transport Correspondent Tom Edwards reports.

Unfortunately many silly people use buses and lack common sense , as does most of society
I don’t blame you for thinking thatk but apparently 1000 people die every year because buses accelerate and brake too fast, according to TfL an announcement could stop that, dont know how

I don't believe bus drivers activate the handbrake for short, urban bus stops like these though.

It's amazing that we're at the point where we're being told to hold on while the bus is moving. I would've thought it was common sense.
In Singapore, it is announced as "please hold on to the grab poles or handgrips when standing on the bus".

In the days of bus conductors, it was common the hear them announce, “hold tight please” and then ding, ding.
How about replacing it with a chime instead and link it to when the doors actually close?
It'd make more sense to me if they implemented LED signs that'd flash when the doors closed. That seems like it'd be much less annoying

Do we really need to be told this? The names of the stops is handy, but this is just silly - it's like the bus has become our parent, like it's telling us to put our seat belt on

I take the bus a lot in Australia, to school and home and I usually stand, I think once a year I get 100 injuries from falling and bumping. We should have more double Decker buses in Australia and some sort of announcement!

Absolutely ridiculous. I am trying to imagine the setting where this decision was taken, most likely a senior management meeting. Because usually, there is someone, somewhere, taking a decision and an action is then put in place. Was there no one else in that meeting to stop them ?
The his is very useful! Sadly my mum fell on a bus and was rushed to hospital as the bus jolted too abruptly. Glad to we they're doing something to reduce the amount of accidents.

On the subject of badly timed announcements, why, at Lidl and Aldi, do they announce the opening of a till and ask customers to begin queuing there, and a few minutes later announce that they need somebody to staff it? Surely it would make more sense to announce that the till is available once somebody is already sitting there.

In Vietnam, there are announcements only about next stops and controlled by the central building, not by timing (although it used to)

In Germany we don´t have this extra announcement. I think it´s really unnecessary because when you must stand in a Bus, it´s clear that you must hold on. Otherwise you fall down.

Yeah we have this in San Francisco. As soon as the driver puts his foot on the accelerator from a stop, it says “Please hold on.”
Where I live we have buses that announce every street and avenue that’s being passed by the bus and it has Siri’s voice lol.

I grew up in India and if you know what the buses are like there, they accelerate as you are getting on
When you get on the bus the first thing you should do is sit down or hold on to something.
If they want to carry on cant they re-record the announcement to say “please hold on, the bus is now moving”

The technical Glitch has been fixed for where I live but now it says that the bus is about to move 5-15 seconds before the bus actually moves

Oh i hate this kind of announcements. In barcelona, some of the new buses say "doors closing" when the doors close and i find it really annoying cause every door says it by itself so normally it's like an echo of 3 "doors closing doors closing losing".
You don't hear "Doors closing, please stand clear" AFTER the train doors have closed
Wow. I'm so surprised that they need to announce that, there's none of that in Vancouver, there's only small sticker signs and the occasional driver saying "Please hold on" if the bus is somewhat full.
