Way to fight it out man, no one said it would be EZ. But, the animals we hunt deserve our very best. I’m about to take this same journey and going to change my entire arrow system , after 40 years of twizzlers and wingdingers, I’m going full Ranch Fairy. Thanks for sharing brother Fairy Duster.
About the same for me. Bought a Polar LTD as my first compound. But, I went from Thunderheads to Magnus Stingers. I can't remember my intermediate broadhead. Actually, XX75/78s were adult arrows & we didn't even know it. I'm going back to 520 ish grains. I'm also, going to the Magnus Black Hornet Ser Razer. I bought some stuff to sharpen my broadheads too. Nothing wrong with the Stingers. It is just the Black Hornets look like a Flying Battle Axe. Plus, Magnus has a lifetime warranty.
Man I can relate. I went through the process like Troy says “The only way is through” it takes time. I bet I shot well over 600 shots till I found my hand-load. What I found along the way was other aspects of my set up that needed improvement. I changed to the proper length release, my old cobra was way too long and I was reaching for the trigger causing torque. I changed to a slim line grip rather than my fat wooden switchback grip. I was shooting with my quiver on rather than off which makes a difference. And one big thing that I will share with you that I discovered was after hundreds of shots your nocks take a beating and end up with Wonky arrow flight becuz of an unseen cracks or a weak spot in the nock. Every change was a change in tune. My advice is make sure you are 100% OK with your equipment set up before settling on your hand load. Thanks for Sharing your experience. And yes thanks to Troy “Wonky” is now part of my vocabulary. Hunt Happy, Hunt Safe and special thanks to the RF for your knowledgeable input into this sport we all Love.
@@manvsdeer many people have no clue just how out of tune their bows are. Add a properly tuned arrow and it's a whole new ball game. Best of luck to you this year!
That's true about the deer only going a short ways with a Razor sharp broadhead. There is an Ashby report on blood clotting. You can look it up on the Ashby Foundation website.
I have been fighting with my compound. My trad bows are dead on but the compound is not cooperating at all. I am building some 250 spine arrows now. The 300 spine only got me to about 175g points. The 250's were as stiff as I could find or I would have gone straight to 200's. I want 300 up front but I am not sure the 250's will make it. I think I will be good as long as I can get my 200g broadheads to behave. I will be excited if I can get 250g heads to behave. By next season I will have the 300's flying no matter what.
I am in the same boat and this is just what I needed! Shot through paper today bare shaft....was tearing a horizontal hole about 5 inches wide. Was getting dark so I went in before screwing with anything. Arrows in the block are tip right/ nock left. I have the ranch fairy field points and shooting Black Eagle Rampage 250. Going to move the rest. Thanks! I think you just saved me several hours and a trip to the shop...hopefully!
Well I finally got my arrow build. Originally I was shooting Carbon Express Mayhem hunter 350 with 100gr point - total weight 435gr. 11% FOC. My rest was causing all kinds of issues. Almost went crazy trying to get it to stop kicking to the left. Partly due to my worn out whisker biscuit and being off center. I went to the pro sho and got a new whisker briscuit and also got the bow all squared up nice. I worked through the RF kit and Man it is shooting great now. Bare shafts and fletched arrows are shooting bullets squared up and side by side. I am shooting a Bow Tech RPM 360 @62# - arrow is a 29" Black Eagle Rampage 250 spine with Ethics 125gr insert and 125gr Point. Total Arrow weight is 589gr 19.8% FOC. The 100 gr. point is working for me too(@18%FOC). Not seeing much difference between the two. I will see how my broadheads fly with the 125gr set up and then if I need I can go back to the 100gr insert. Adding this weight has really quieted my bow too. You are right about the confidence. It is so with it. Thanks and good luck this year.
@@manvsdeer Well I think I was over spined using 250's.....kept tinkering..and I switched to Rampage 300 shafts. The gr per inch was different between the shafts. (250 = 10.7 to 300 = 8.7gpi) This saved me 58 grains on total arrow weight So to keep my arrow weight the same and above 550 (according to RF magical things happen above 550..haha) I dropped in a 150gr insert w/ 125 point. This also increased the FOC up to 22% on an arrow that weighed almost the same. Here's to Tinkering! Now I need to go shoot something! Good Luck this year.
I’m having the same problem with my triax shooting all combinations of bare shafts with a nock right tear. I’m going to try cranking down the poundage today! Thanks for the information buddy and good luck this year!
Man Vs Deer I can get my arrows to fly somewhat straighter when I move my rest but then it becomes way off center. I’m guessing the cam lean is the problem
To make a recommendation with your bareshaft tune mark all the arrows and note what shafts do what. Now rotate the nocks. Nock tuning is an incredibly underrated process.
Agreed! Also, I'm going with a 125gr Black Hornet head & heavy insert & sleeve (footer) on my next set up (still about 200gr total up front & about 521gr total arrow weight).. .....Oh, Man vs Deer, Magnus Stingers & Buzzcuts comes in 150gr. & have a lifetime warranty & shareable too. RF approved. I don't think Swackers have a lifetime warranty?
Just went through the same process myself, I was the guy who shot 200 bare shafts cause I couldn’t figure it out. Had to correct my form and my bow but I ended up pretty much where you did pep spine and 200 grains up front
Stay with it! Don’t be afraid to do what you are comfortable with either. I went through the whole process and when I tried using a fixed broadhead I could not get results that I was comfortable with. I ended up settling on some 150g swhackers that have treated me well and still add to the heavier setup. Good luck!
Have you backed up to about 15 yards or so and tried bare shaft? I had good holes coming out of the bow and could shoot around corners at 15-20 (bare shaft). I had to tweak the bow some more but finally got it. RF told me to take some Xanies, lol. Good video. I did the same thing, thought I was going crazy.
I didn't catch the poundage on your bow. I'm shooting 70 lbs, 29.5 inch draw, shooting 30" arrows. I had to get a 250 spine with 250 grains up front (100 grain insert and 150 grain points). I had to adjust the nock point once, about 1/16 inch up. After getting really close, nock tuning made a world of difference. At about 10 yards I am now making almost perfect holes. "the only way is through"
Tom Karrow arrows are 26.5 and my poundage was 70 until I backed it off a half turn with an Allen wrench into each limb. Took me about 6 hours over 2 days to get it right so don’t give up and keep at it!
So at 70 pounds and I’m assuming those arrows are 340 spine? All that weight up front will weaken the spine. So you arrow isn’t flying straight. You should be shooting way stiffer arrows. Also I think you’re moving the rest incorrectly. You should have it centered and only move it if everything else is correct. 200 grain tip but what about the insert ? The problem with shooting heavy arrows until your shot is good is basically putting a bandage over an inconsistent bow.
Pattyboybx I ended up with a 300 spine arrow. I believe the rest was off center due to the way the arrows were kicking when they came out and how canted they were sticking out of the target. Insert is just a standard insert

Kenny Anstey thanks for watching! It was eye opening to me how out of tune my bow was!
Man Vs Deer mine also. BUT NOT ANYMORE !!!!
Good job on getting your arrows tuned. Its awesome that Troy has people looking into their gear. I've been preaching this for years.
Clint Summers it was a process for sure and eye opening. I’m excited to put them to the test, won’t be long now

Spine, not spLine bro. Good video though. Troy is the man
dabear2354 I caught myself saying that about halfway through the process 😂 thanks for watching man 🤘
@@manvsdeer good luck this season man!
what is that target made of ? i want to make one like that.
No idea it’s a target made by our local bow hunting club
It's spine Not spline and you can Not adjust the riser but you can adjust the arrow rest.
Buy high quality arrows to begin with, black eagle, victory, sirius etc.
LMMFAO join the club 🎯
how long are your arrows and what poundage are you pulling. I am going through the same process but my results are not yet as good.

Andrew Martinez no idea, looks like some kind of some kind of felt material. It’s at an archery range so I am not sure
Man Vs Deer o ok thanks
What arrow and broadheads did you end up running this year?
Ended up with a Easton 6.5MM Carbon arrow with a 300 spine and a 150G swhacker

my first bare shaft shot was worse than that. It actually hit the target sideways and broke.
Paul Crave dang! I was worried about that a little to to be honest. Keep working at it man 🤘
why are u saying spline, it's spine wtf
