I started a new career with construction mechs, and I love it. It put me rimward of Jade Falcon space, and for some reason I constantly got to fight nova cat over there. Must be a lore reason for them to show up so exclusively and consistently so far from their territory, since no other clans have shown up in missions to date in the area, including Jade Falcon itself. Anyway, I have also noticed that something totally weird happens in every career around about the same number of missions completed, and that is I lose a pilot to an opfor mech doing something suicidal-ly stupid. Previous career I had a Shadowhawk walk up to a blackout site and got ambushed and pushed far enough back in initiative that I never got to move before a pirate hunchback double medium-cannoned it in the back. That was funny as hell, and I loved it. This time around, a royal Ostscout DFA'd my Arctic Cheetah during a duo duel, and died but also killed my pilot. So far something like this is happening exactly once near the start of every new career. Admittedly, it's a small sample size, but I was wondering if there's some scripted weirdness going on. I had same thing happen to Behemoth a couple times in vanilla campaigns as well, but back then everyone was talking about Decker being the one who always gets one-shot or dies to dumb stuff, so I figured maybe I was an outlier. I'm starting to think there's just some amount of scripted foolery going on that causes anomalous opfor ai behavior and an unusual success rate for it at least once near the start of a career.
Anyway, I use initiative to full advantage to usually dupe the ai into stupid positioning, and certain mission types make that impossible, so I usually avoid those entirely until I can overwhelm opfor forces. Also, there are quite a large number of mission types where you can sit out of sensor range and shell where your objective marker is and get feedback from the pilot on how much damage was done and basically win the mission without ever seeing the opfor.

Hello Bloodydoves, and thanx for these very helpful videos.
A quick question: in vanilla and in the two mods I played until now (Extended 3025 and Hyades Rim) I was able to add, into the mods folder, a personal folder with some stuff I modded myself (for instance, I love the Vulcan, so I made myself a 55 tons vulcan to use instead of the usual 55 tons mechs). Can I do the same in BTA? (Of course taking in consideration the differences in mech building). Is there something in particular that I should know, or pay attention to, in order not to screw up?
    Thanx, and greetings from Italy!

Mechanically, yes, that's possible. Our mechs are much more complicated than BEX/Hyades RIm though, and you need many more parts such as the engine/armor/structure/etc. But there's nothing preventing that from being possible, BTA doesn't prevent new things being added. Since you're familiar with working on mechdefs, I recommend you crack open a BTA Vulcan (found in Mods\Heavy Metal Unit Module) and take a look at ours to see how they're made, then make yours accordingly.

@@realbloodydoves yes, looking at the syntax and more generally at the "patterns" used in BTA is the first thing to do, I guess, and proceed patiently with one little modification at a time and check if it works or if it causes troubles, I guess.
Thanx! I'll let you know how it worked!

@@realbloodydoves quick update: I played a bit with the files and it seems I grabbed the basics 😉
... which made me realize how much work and passion there are behind BTA, and now that I fully see that I'm enjoying BTA even more, from the major stuff (border wars are great) to the minor narratives (Artemis + Wulf + Floppy event chain is so nice!).
So, basically, this comment is a huge THANK YOU FOR BTA to you and all of the other people behind it. Really, amazing mod, and amazing passion you all put into it.

Should have swapped out the LRM 10 for two LRM 5, it would save 1 ton

Hey BD. A thought... You can't kill what you can't hit. I agree that armor is good, even required, but early game, we can't hit and they can't miss. So yes armor. That being said, with high evasion, I run around the field,, one end to the other, basically surrounding them and they can't hit often. Early game I think, does better that way. With AI focusing up to 12 mecha and 4 turrets, there isn't enough armor in the game......
