This is an ORIGINAL HorrorBabble Production.
I am bed ridden and suffering with pain. your wonderful work comforts me and ameliorates my spirit! gracias
This, too, is my condition; I am similarly soothed and transported by Ian’S readings of these fantastic tales. Keep up the marvellous work!
Jennifer and I wish you both the best (Toltec and J.R.) - it is a pleasure to hear from you both. :) Ian
Thanks Ian, You're Brilliant Reading Voice Is A Somewhat Soothing Experience Whilst Settling Into Bed & As I Tune My Mind & Body For Another Great Novel, Read As Only You Mr Gordon Can, Take My Mind Into The Story & On An Adventure That One Really Does Need To Listen To!!! Thanks A Bunch M8ty.😉 Cheers, Keep Up The Brilliant Job You're Doing For HororBabble & Us, The Recipient Of Your Works! God Bless.
HorrorBabble Thanks both to you and Jennifer. That’s very kind.
Must have been the week for it. I hope everyone else is improving.
You have introduced me to so many great authors and stories. Thank you!
yet another reply of a bed ridden soul awaiting my inevitable doom. ty for these efforts as they act as a gentle balm.
It's just lightens my heart when I see a HorrorBabble notification with another dark tale of terror. Thank you very much!!
So excited to have such class-act entertainment while I cook, Ian! Thank you.
Blackwood is truly one of the finest writers in this genre. Thanks for all of your efforts.
By far, Ian Gordon is one of my favorite readers. I love hearing him read these weird tales. The cadence of the voice carries through the way it seems the author would have intended.
You are a fantastic narrator, thank you so much
This story has such a melancholy beauty. Lovecraft referenced Algernon Blackwood at the beginning of one of his stories, and since then I had meant to try him out. Thank you for posting this, I don't always find time to read but listening to your readings while working on crafts is something I'm doing quite often now!
I just love his works...ty so much . 💞😸 always a pleasure to hear you read him. 💙
Well done Mr.Gordon and Horror Babble, well done! Excellent story and narration, as always! Until next time.
Thank you. You introduced me to Algernon Blackwood and now I search out his stories.
Wholeness and balanced vibrations thanks for the upload. I have been patiently waiting for more of Blackwoods stuff from you.
Ah I love a good tale as I relax in my bed. The calm words of this tale are a balm to the storm that is my mind. As I listen that storm slowly subsides as gentle hands seem to slowly pull me ever downward into the darkness of sleep.
This is a beautiful story by Algernon Blackwood. It is so descriptive and amazing. His stories all flow so well. His stories are so descriptive that I can always picture myself walking through the settings as the story is told.
Great narration! Thanks!

Compelling voice and intro. The pace is wonderfully thoughtful. Coupled, these qualities draw me in closely as to not miss a thing. Thank you very much for your hard work & passion. It is just superior and consistent 🎩🌙🌹🙏🏽❤️ A sweet story.
Ray Bradbury wrote a story that I read in the fifties that concerned a man whose bones melted. I've loved his writings all these years but that book would still scare the bees out of me. It would be a story that would be great as one of your stories. Don't remember the name. It was in a collection of stories.
F 451. IS how I got hooked on reading these last 65 years...I'm 73.
Dark They Were, and Golden Eyed?
Great Friday night entertainment, thank you!
I love a good story that leaves your emotions in a grey cloud. "You get what what everyone gets. You get a lifetime." Death -Neil Geiman.
What a wonderful reading! The story is certainly eerie but oddly beautiful as well.
I love Blackwood on the page. And now, Blackwood in my ear? Beyond delightful. Cheers from New Orleans' Skycave..thank you..my resonant friend..
Thank you once again.
Man, I love your act while narrating those curious stories! Listening to this while drawing is amazing.
Thank you for all the delightful reads! Binge-listened to you and Jennifer as I painted the trim to my house on All Hallow’s Eve. Cheers!
The smoke in the picture seems to move...
That's a little bit disturbing...!
It does look like its moving
Wonderful story. There arn't many horror that leave me feeling sad but this is one.I loved it,thank you.
Always a pleasure listening as I am chillin. Awesome work!😎👌
An awesome story. It has a good flow from beginning to end.
HorrorBabble, how I love thee!! ❤
I cannot thank you enough for all the work you put into this channel/podcast.
Thank you for sharing your love & passion for weird tales and classic horror!
I can not, WILL NOT, ever get tired of listening to Ian read these terrifying tales of terror. 🫶🫶🫶
Thank you as always! :)
I never feel isolated, or alone when I leaned into your familiar voices, thank you. 🎩❤️🌹
Always good to hear from you John - even in the Wood of the Dead! Ian
Great channel! I can't wait to hear this story
Ive enjoyed hearing blackwood's works. "The Willows" was the first I heard, since then I've searched for more stories like it with the dreamy, eeriely magical sort of atmosphere with forests and stuff. Perhaps there's a name for the style? Id love to find more like it
The term 'sylvan dread' comes up from time to time. Here's a link to the Blackwood playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLeNNKRLWxwoMXHQbdNGgj--HtHM_60LAt.html
You may want to give M. R. James a shot too: th-cam.com/play/PLeNNKRLWxwoNH9xsmM6XCfvJvgw-Q9YTD.html
@@HorrorBabble Great! Thanks for the reply nd the links, much appreciated.
The term I think is "folk horror". U might also try "weird fiction". Hope it helps ^_^
"Fantastique" is a term the french use, which is a genre that fits Blackwood very well and is a prolific genre in both french and spanish speaking countries. For this particular brand of fiction I would also reccomend Horacio Quiroga, Harlan Ellison and Jorge Luis Borges.
I loved the willows! I've also been trying to find other stories like it eerie unknown rather than jump.scares. You and I have similar tastes. Did you ever find anything like it? I'd love it if you could recommend something similar?
beautiful descriptions of nature - i live in NYC, N.Y. even though i live near Riverside Park, it is nothing like the country - a yellow butterfly, the smell of the earth, birds singing and twittering. . . thanks for reading this story. have a good. : )
Love your stories Ian. 😊👍
You sound like Albert Wesker from the Resident Evil games.. It’s really cool.
I'll take that...!
Thank you. This was so mellow and haunting
Really well presented. Easy to listen to. Great!
Best way to pass “waiting room time”!!!
Excellent, as always!!!👏😷
Loved this all over again ❤️💕❤️💕❤️
Really enjoyed this story. Thanks for the great narrative
Thanks Kerry!
Thank you as usual
Hylophobia, the fear of forests and wooden areas. Brrrr...
Good reading, Ian. I really like Blackwood.
great narration as usual
Fortunately snowed ❄❄ in in Washington and therefore following NO ONE into ANY WOODS.
Anyone else notice the fog on the right side seems to make a face with an underbite?
...... now that you mention it🤔
New fav!
Dear algorithm: the whole catalog 🤘😎🤘
Great
No wonder she was so tired having to work in the hay Fields all the time and also work as a maid at the inn.
Greetings Ian...sooo excited to see another story by my man Algie 😋 BTW..Are u still planning to read The Kitbag?
It's still on the list VF! Just got quite a few other tales to get through first. :) Ian
Finally figured out who you sound like. i closed my eyes and heard Richard Burton. that mellifluous, low voice wistfully telling a story. and i love Algernon Blackwood, who isn’t given as much attention as he deserves. his descriptions of nature are so real and his stories usually have a positive feeling. he’s a wonderful author.
one question though, where oh where do you get your pronunciation of “oo” - as door or floor? you pronounce everything so well. is it a bit of Scottish accent? i can’t place it. thanks for all you post - i really enjoy your readings. : )
Thanks again Alexa. I LOVE Mr. Burton. As for the accent, I'm not sure where it comes from - it's certainly not my natural voice. You can listen to me reading in my native tongue here: th-cam.com/video/Lclb57PLmB0/w-d-xo.html
@@HorrorBabble so i listened and just fell into the story you wrote. i like your real voice as much as your "Richard Burton" voice. it has a real depth to it. so glad you have recorded these stories. looking very forward to hearing more. . .
as to your accent - it's quite a conundrum :) i hear here and there Scots, Cockney, American, but mostly an English Theatre trained voice. i may become one your groupies LOL
Yeah he does sound him. Didn't think of that till you mentioned it.
@@feralbluee I'm guessing at North West of England, Lancashire.
Good wishes.
Blackwood is always a great choice! Out of curiosity, have you ever considered doing a reading of some eerie non-fiction writing by horror masters? Something like Poe's "Instinct Versus Reason: A Black Cat" or Lovecraft's "Supernatural Horror in Literature"? Just a passing thought! Keep up the good work!
Jacob Resmian I'd be really interesting to hear him narrate long, informational stories about real life events, people, disasters, things like that. It'd be chilling to hear him talk about Chernobyl, or other horrible things that have happened, maybe some serial killers like Marilyn Manson or something. All with that same narrative like voice that he uses
I have given it some thought - but it would need a platform of its own I think. Something to bear in mind at least! Thanks, Ian.
AnAmericanComposer I think you mean Charles Manson...
James Wilson haha! You're so right, my friend.
Bruce Campbell where you at?
You think his chin is large enough to prevent heat stroke by providing shade? Good thinking!
High Level!!! AND SAVED!
I felt so certain that the protagonist was the one who would be remaining in the wood of the dead! What surprise when I learned... the truth.
3 Reads: When Shorthouse goes to a haunted house with his Aunt, and when he went to Long Island to get a signature from his Employer's former business partner, thirdly, that rooming house German ghost experience...
I wonder if she ever spoke to the ghost. Why she inquires so heavily, and asks with pure fright if he knew who the ghost was looking for. Maybe she knew
Me and my insomnia thank you.....I've yet to join your patreon...but I will if I could rep a t shirt!!?!
That may be a great idea for the future - we're still looking into merch options. Thank you! Ian
such an awesome experience with ur voice to it, I love this story, hey Ian, when you do the man Whom the trees loved, could possibly give me a shout out my good man😁
Absolutely! And I'm sorry I missed your comment a while back regarding your 'Harpies' story. Do keep us updated. Ian
☺thank you
Oh, if you're ever in Dr creepens Vault on Reddit, the first two parts of suffer the Furies, are on there if you ever wanna give it a skim, but that's just if☺ I appreciate your taste in stories Ian and I just love what ur doing so god bless and keep you, and narrate on my good man!!!😁😉
The wood of the dead... It's just rigor mortis.
Where'd the Lovecraft readings channel go? I tried to visit it earlier and it says it doesn't exist. Real shame :/
Hi Kylo - we posted several updates on the community tab: th-cam.com/users/horrorbabblecommunity - But of course, not everybody sees those updates. Rest assured, everything 'Lovecraft' will remain here on the main channel. Ian
What a vile a...ole to not have warned the daughter so that she would not go to the hayfield!!! Because that was obviously the reason the village-ghost showed him this vision. 👁
This will give him a creepy and bad karma for his future incarnations❗
Hey, where did "The Wendigo" disappear to? Its one of my favorites but I cant find it on your page anymore.
Here it is, Kade: horrorbabble.bandcamp.com/album/the-wendigo
Where did the Shadow over Innsmouth go? I was halfway through and now I can't find it?
Hi Derek - you can listen to it here: horrorbabble.bandcamp.com/album/the-shadow-over-innsmouth (the reason for why it has been taken down has been posted on the community tab: th-cam.com/users/horrorbabblecommunity) It's only a temporary measure. :) Ian
Thanks, that sucks they got removed. Keep up the great work!
Uh, did anyone crack wise about mourning wood?
Just asking.
This is off topic but what happened to the mountains of madness video? i just started reading it and it's suddenly gone from my history. I came here to search for it and i can't find it. Has it been removed?
It's back for now - but it will have to go when the new version arrives in order to avoid 'duplication'. It will however, always be available here: horrorbabble.bandcamp.com/album/at-the-mountains-of-madness-15
Thank you for the reply. Is there an update to your current channel or income situation? I hope it improved/ gets better soon! and thanks for this wonderful channel.
We tend to post updates here: th-cam.com/users/horrorbabblecommunity Thanks again, Ian.
Saw that coming a mile away.
When he says West Country he means Wales?
No - he's referring to South West England.
