The image of Carnicki entering the Whistling Room with garlic around his neck and stuck in his ears. As always, thanks for these classics, so well-read. Your professionalism and artistry are SO impressive!

Dear Ian, In these anxious times I find it hard to relax and sleep. Why do your hair-raising narrations comfort me so? The choice of stories is perfect as I don't like too much gore. Your voice is soothing and at times compelling. Maybe viewing my fears in a fictional way helps me distance from burdensome reality.

Listening to a lot of this channels material in a row I come to expect certain sounds to happen in order; the piano intro, the piano prologue with Ian announcing which story he’ll be covering, and then the story
For this video it was different and The change in music after the first intro sent chills down my spine

Yes, the music and Ian's voice in the beginning is KEY to the Horrorbabble experience. Ian composes music to the works, I think he said. An impressive guy!

Sheridan Le Fanu: Carmilla was one of the first comprehensive vampire novels. Most English readers don't realize that a lot of the things we took for granted in "Dracula" had actually been expressed already by the Irish writer a quarter century earlier, Sheridan Le Fanu. I know it goes against his credit that he was Irish, but it is a clearly establishable fact that many of the idioms of vampire that we associate with Bram Stoker, were already very well established into English lore by Sheridan Le Fanu. This is just plain historical fact. Not my opinion.

I find that some of these 'old-time' stories needlessly use long, complicated, words and often add words that aren't needed. It seems to me, that some of the authors were trying to show off their vocabulary skills rather than tell an interesting story. The first story in this collection is a perfect case-in-point.
    For example:
Pursuant to my usual legend, why utter annunciations needlessly when a lesser numerical value of vocabularally diversity will entirely suffice perfectly?
    ...To put that another way...
Why use loads of words when a few will do?

I find it so interesting how older writers used such long, flowery sentences to explain simple concepts.
Take the little preface to the first story. Each sentence could be condensed and translated as follows:
    1. Dude, I got this story that’s totally legit.
    2. I got some witnesses that also say this story’s legit.
    3. The witnesses are being honest about the story.
    4. I’m being honest too.
    5. I got no reason to lie.
    6. I swear on my momma’s grave this is the real deal.
    7. Certain details have been redacted for privacy.
    8. Look, I swear I’m not lying about this story I’m totally gonna tell.
;) All joking aside I love this channel. Keep it up Ian! Thank you guys for reading these!
