The teachers in the next grade level must really enjoy receiving your students. It is a wonderful feeling to see young students who have routines and procedures down so that the instructional day flows. Now that would be great if the sharpener really had a camera on it. I think that you are on to something mighty innovative! It must be something wonderful and beautiful to be able to teach without a mask. Take care.

I love how you asked open ended questions and reviewed what was expected in class with the pencil and the sharpener. All a great learning lesson for the new kid and review for the old kids that of might of needed a reminder.
I am getting ready to cover a maternity leave as a long-term substitute in a first grade classroom - I am loving your videos. Although the classroom has procedures set up, your videos are a good reminder that the kids are very capable of doing things independently! Wish me luck!

I teach 3rd and have been trying this system all year - modeling and explaining the process etc. My pencil box is empty by 10am everyday. It's a constant struggle for the ones who go up to the box to replace a dull pencil and select a new one. I'm hawking the pencil box constantly trying to catch the culprit(s). I feel like "Who Took the cookies from the cookie jar?" every single day. I need to repeatedly stop instruction to give a new pencil. Do I assign a pencil box watcher as a classroom job? Something has to work.
Videos like this are so helpful to me. I began teaching last year through an ARL program, and I need to see more procedures like this one. By the end of the day I am exhausted by all of the redirecting that I'm doing.

Yes! I use to use Symbaloo! It's so awesome! I just don't use it anymore because I use Google Slides and I can embed all my songs and goodies on a slide. Symbaloo is so great and easy to use too. ((Hugs))
Usually, two when I introduce. After that I don't keep track of how many pencils they have. They do a pretty good job at returning them when broken. ((Hugs))

Yay! No, they don't share supplies we have community pencils and crayons. Everything else belongs to them in their pencil box. ((Hugs))
