Morphe wouldn't let the gigantic mono-chromatic eye shadow palettes go. People don't have space for 50 shades of almost the same color.

I grew up in a small town in the UK, and when I was about 15, me and my mum went on a shopping trip to Liverpool and I came across my first ever Morphe store (I think there's only 3 in the whole of the UK). I literally almost cried. I had loved all the products from afar for YEARS - not just Morphe, but the brands they stocked like Nabla, Beauty Bakery ect. Being in the UK, especially a few years ago, it was impossible to get your hands on any of those products. Now I live in Liverpool, and it actually makes me sad to think about that memory. Growing up in the online beauty community made me idolize and almost romanticize brands like Morphe and J*, and now I'm older I realize they are everything I stand against

I won’t miss Morphe or any of the Forma brands, but for the staff at these companies, I hope something works out. I also can’t say I’m surprised tbh. I truly don’t know anyone who still uses Morphe or any of the Forma brands and whenever I walk past the Morphe stores here in London, it’s always like a ghost ship. Ultimately their quality isn’t worth the initial hype, they refused to move on from what worked for them in 2015-2017 (not every palette needs to be the size of a large laptop) and people have found them out. Relying on influencers to push your products is great, but at some point, you also have to focus on quality. Apart from their setting spray, I don’t know of any Morphe product that people truly like.

Company's like morphe, urban decay, and makeup geek don't adapt to new technologies. They stick to the same formula and business strategies that worked for them once apone a time. They fear alienating their customers by changing formulation when in actuality, they customers are being exposed to new formulations from every other brand.

I think that the pandemic changed everything. People realized (myself included) that we are buying so much makeup that we will never go through. I have found myself with a collection that I know I won't use. So I have started giving stuff away and slowed down with all purchases. The prices have skyrocketed as well. The brands have been raising their prices as inflation soars. People can't pay $100 for one palette when they don't know if they can pay their rent. We are no longer the cash cows we were when makeup hit it's hay day. However many years ago this all blew up and people were buying so much that they all jumped on the bandwagon. Now I think we will see many companies who won't make enough money to stay in business.

Also, the pandemic made morphe less accessible, so people had their eyes opened to better quality products. If they had to buy things online anyways then why not go for more interesting and better quality products from indi brands. People didn't have the money to have hundreds of pallettes, so they splurged on things that added something special to their collection.

  • @mymakeupgarden

I also think it needs to be said that the public’s buying preferences have shifted and Morphe failed to keep up with that. As an observation, it seems like makeup lovers prefer more curated color stories and don’t want to compromise the quality of the formula. More is not always better and instead of changing formats and producing a quality formula, they continued to manufacture oversized, dull palettes. The formula quality is spotty and makeup buyers recognize that. The rise of quality indie brands and interesting color stories have given them stiff competition

When I first got into makeup, I thought Morphe was the best thing ever. (So much for so little!) But the more brands I tried out, I saw that more is not always more, and it's really not that great to have a 35 pan palette when like 7 shades are exactly the same. I wish they would've had a more consistent formula and LEARNED TO EDIT THEMSELVES!!!

  • @virginiaariaz4214
    @virginiaariaz4214 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

Honestly, I think if they invested in their formulas. Try to be more creative with their color story. They wouldn’t be thinking about bankruptcy. All the drama that happened most companies would just drop the person. Make it clear that the company had nothing to do with any of the drama but unfortunately it seems as they were. Yet again if you have a great product the majority of the time in the beauty community you can get out anything almost. By the way, that was a beautiful look you came up with. I want to say I have such huge respect for you speaking multiple languages. I only speak English. But I wanted to let you know about three English words that often get confused.
Weary: exhausted as if after a long journey or a sleepless night.
Wary: meaning mistrustful or suspicious or cautious about possible problems.
Leery: a close synonym of wary meaning mistrustful or suspicious or cautious about likely problems.
Often people will say weary when they mean wary/leery almost like a mashup of wary/leery. Many many first language English speakers make this mistake as well.
In no way is this comment a criticism. If I had learned Swedish as a second language and you heard me misusing something, I’d want a heads up. English is a mess of a language and you are amazing.

I think you summed it up pretty well. Morphe was really popular back in like the 2016 ish era I think? But it was because they had all of these big name influencers that called themselves “Morphe Babes” and they were promoting the brand left and right. But while it may have been smart to get in on the influencer marketing train way back then, today a lot of the big name influencers have their own brands like you said so they are busy promoting those. and even if they weren’t I feel like the golden era of internet makeup influencers probably isn’t what it used to be and they don’t have as much blind pull as they used to. because now customers see through a lot of the marketing bs and aren’t as easily swayed en masse like they were back then. Back then morphe was a brand with an ok to fine makeup formula at best, but their marketing made up for it and worked in their favor. Influencer marketing doesn’t work for them as well as it used to and it seems like they never updated or improved their formula as a backup plan.

I've only bought brushes from Morphe, and they're okayyy? They get the job done. I really wasn't impressed with their huge private label palettes, so I never bought any. What put me on a definite Morphe no buy was the *constant* pushing of the codes, and the horrible people they got in bed with, especially how long they tolerated James Charles and Jeffree Star's atrocious behavior. It is kind of interesting that Morphe used to be so about influencer codes, but nowadays they don't send PR to anyone (that I know of - maybe they do for TikTokers? I don't have a TikTok). I bought a Morphe palette for the first time a year or two ago because the color story intrigued me, and at the time there were only about two videos that I could find of TH-camrs using the palette, so it was difficult for me to get inspiration for looks. I never got on the Morphe train either. I bought a palette when I first started out in makeup and I thought my skills were poorer than they were and it was actually the quality of the eyeshadows 😂 I saved up for my first ABH palette and it changed my world! The only thing I've ever enjoyed from them was a select few of their blending brushes. I have had them for years and payed about £2 each for them and they are still going strong! Their hit the lights palette was OK too. I bought it because of Keilidh MUA and I used it for a while but have since decluttered it. I think they emphasised too much on social media influencers and not enough on quality so, like you said, once they were gone, people realised that their products were just basic and not really worth the hype. Plus a lot of affordable brands stepped up their game and people had more choice and strayed away from Morphe

I also like the cake liner they had with an influencer can’t remember which one. But I had the Gems thing and… so many shades useless… at the end of the day, nothing is that much interesting and I won’t buy without a bogo :/. But Coloupop needs a EU website !

Beautiful look and this is a very interesting topic! Just alot of the older brands that's been around a long time ago that were over hyped have just fallen because there are just so more options. And yes they did fall when the big influencers fell. Also there are people on the internet now that will actually tell the truth when something is good or not!!

If Morphe goes under it won't phase me at all. I haven't bought anything other than their setting spray for years. IMO the quality of their products is crap. There are so many really good indie brands who are reasonably priced that why would I bother? I feel the same about Revolution Makeup (I was disappointed when I heard they bought bh).

The only Morphe product I actually loved was the Jaclyn Hill palette from 2017. Before they changed the formula. I haven't really been interested in them since then. I tried some of their other products in late 2018 and the quality just wasn't there. I remember it being super patchy and I ended up giving the products to a friend.

My first big palettes were morphe based on mostly media hype. I bought in and like a few of their liners and brushes but found the eyeshadow did not stand up to the competition at a similar price point. My makeup anesthetic also changed and I wanted more colorful, creative options. I have passed my palettes down to my daughters at this point since my collection has grown and makeup application is my self care practice that cannot be bothered with underperforming products. I'd much rather invest in a better experience with better products. I also think they just got "too comfortable," assuming their product mill would keep the same level of profits without Innovation or forumla improvement.

Well I just recently buyed my first ever Morphe pallet, this year holiday pallet 35xs and I think the quality is so good. It will be sad if they didn't go through those problems, because they are good brand for people who doesn't buy every Natasha denona pallet collection for such amount of money in those expensive life. Am agree about the packaging, they can be more creative about it, but the quality for just soft neutral fast makeup are good. Yeah, the bigger high quality brands are better, but it's absurd for me to buy a pallet for 69$ or more for eyeshadows...big no for me...not because I cannot afford it, but because it's just makeup...till the next 100$ pallet. Well....not me, not anymore! I even prefer to have 4-5 bigger pallets with different colour stories then to have 20-30-100 pcs pallets

Thanks for making this video! I love these deep dives. Outside of going to the Mall of America to ride rollercoasters I haven’t been in a mall to shop in years.
I don’t like Morphe quality. I’ve decluttered the two palettes I bought years ago and the two liquid lipsticks I had. I don’t mind their wooden lip pencils, I still have two of those, but I can’t tell you when I last used them.
I’m thinking they sunk a bunch of money into REM beauty and didn’t get it back because the products didn’t end up being amazing.

I was given a Morphe 9 pan for Christmas a few years ago (the one with the hot pink) and I loved the shades but the quality was not there for me. Maybe back in 2013-2015 there weren't as many good drugstore options but now we have Colourpop, Elf, and Juvias Place with similar prices and better quality. I expected better color payoff and less fading. I ended up decluttering after six months and wearing it a few times

The pandemic absolutely changed how ppl bought makeup, but also morphe constantly attaching their wagon to very problematic influencers and did not have the courage to cut the problem children out.
Even the Jaclyn stans are mostly over her crap and even if her stuff is good now, none of the new beauty buyers are interested because of past drama, and us older ones rather buy fun stuff. Nothing in the morphe line looks fun or original.
Now they are having an identity crisis because there is *nothing new* or *exciting* or a tiny bit *original* from them.
Not a single beauty you tuber I follow, reviews anything from morphe these days.
I own 1 morphe brush. I'm not planning on giving them more money unless they can really show something that isn't the same shit all the time.

I didn’t believe the hype. I have never bought any Morphe makeup products. I did pickup a brush or two and they were not up to par AT ALL. Granted my brushes of choice are Japanese Fude brushes, however there is a place for synthetic brushes for certain needs and mediums (for instance Halloween makeup etc). I’ll take a Sigma brush any day, which are of way better quality. Yes they cost more, but you get what you pay for. As for affordable eyeshadows, Colourpop, BH (before, not sure now), there are better choices I think. Somehow Morphe just never appealed to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

When I first started into makeup, I bought morphe because all the influencers (at the time) were pushing it (I started watching makeup just before the code drama came out).
To this day I tell people: if you like neutral browns.. its ok, pretty good. Do NOT buy colour, but if you're picking a brown palette this is pretty good and will last you ages since all the shades are the same lol.
Today we know that the brand isn't great, but I admit, the browns were ok.

I have a few palettes from Morphe and a brush. The brush is ok and the pallettes I used a few times only. After purchasing some higher price point brands for a while I went back to try a few shades and realised that they are pretty awful. Lots of fallout, imposible to blend...I then understood just how much a difference it makes to have a good formula and good tools.

I do know that more people want to shop in person when it’s possible because they missed being able to do it for so long in my area , but I’m also Canadian and we don’t have the same things available to us beauty wise , so yes some products are only available by shopping online but when they have then option to shop in person the people I know do it certain Provinces had stricter lockdowns than others . A large portion of friends said they will be doing more in person shopping whenever they can first off to support the Stores so many lost over the Pandemic and second they won’t be taking anything for granted again, of course there’s always situations that arise and ordering online needs to be done but for the most part as of right now anyway they want to go out and do their shopping how long that lasts idk.

Jen luv did a live chat last week about the most popular brands of millennials. Morphe was in the top 10, colourpop was not. I think that's an interesting part of this conversation, they are so accessible, maybe not talked about as much but milennials know about Morphe.

I think Gen Z though, the 18-22 year olds, wouldn't touch Morphe because of the scandals so it is interesting to see the generational differences. For me I was a 90s teen so too old to buy into the nonsense that Morphe was amazing. I tried a few things when they became available in the UK to see what they were about and wasn't impressed with the quality.

Such an interesting conversation, appreciate your educated point of view in those matters. It’s interesting to see who the industry is changing and see how things evolve from there. Wether it’s Forma or any brands, no one is protected against business decisions that go south, so it’s interesting to see how a business go from there. I don’t really buy from any of those brands anymore, but there are jobs at risks and for that I want to see them pull through and come back with a new business plan that might even be inspiring to other facing similar challenges.

My first color palette was a Morphe palette. I went to Ulta, I saw it and coveted. Saved for it and bought it. I love the quality of these enough to have 4-35 shadow palette and one smaller one, that I don’t much care for. I always wonder why nobody seem to talk about them. I made a point not to think of the influencer association the way I avoid thinking about influencers as people and keep them as people working a job. People are finicky and today I’m rolling with you, tomorrow you’re yesterday’s new. I don’t ever hear nobody but you talking about Juvia’s Place? I hope they don’t go down.

I work in a wholesale business so I work against primarily small, independent brick and mortar customers and the number of them who are struggling right now is STAGGERING. Amazon being so cheap and convenient and then the pandemic on top of that? They are struggling to stay above water. So like you say, if people want to keep brick and mortar an option the only way they can make that opinion heard is with their money 💰

The big palettes are boring to most of us now. I bought a couple of the limited edition holiday ones like the 35XO in the nice pretty packaging, and I still have those. Any other big palettes I bought I gave away years ago. I actually have bought a couple of Morphe palettes recently but they're the nine pan palettes. But usually only to bulk up my order to get free delivery. 😂 They're not bad and they're handy to have for travel too, plus no big deal if they break since they're cheap, but there's much better quality out there.

    Now my opinion on morphe.
Well I don’t have much good to say about them.
Their setting spray is so good and their brushes are ok.
My issue is I feel there is not much communication to their customers and that they have always had a shady atmosphere.
When they reformulated the original Jaclyn Hill palette and never disclosed this until they got called out is when I lost my respect for them.

I have two Morphe pallets that I NEVER use. I totally agree- quality-wise ColourPop and Juvias Place blows Morphe out of the water. The pandemic really changed my whole relationship with makeup and my makeup buying habits. But even more than the pandemic’s impact, since mid 2021, inflation has almost wiped out my makeup budget entirely. At this point I think it’s clear that pre 2021 prices are not coming back. (Personally, I don’t even think food prices or fuel prices are ever going to go back down to where they were in 2020 either) Lets just say I’m not expecting the adjustments I’ve made to be temporary. After basic skincare, I now prefer to put the little money I have for beauty/luxury to go towards my perfume collection. I definitely have prioritized my fragrance wishlist over makeup. I’ve gone from buying 20+ palettes a year, down to 5, or maybe 7, and the same with lip products. A makeup product has to be really spectacular or really be unique to get me to part with my coin now, and Morphe isn’t it. It’s not even on my radar.

    • @shendisackett
      @shendisackett 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Inflation only really hit the UK this year and it's crazy. The war in Ukraine has affected everything, I've started to cut down on things because fuel and heating and food are so much more expensive this year. I think now I will be shopping my stash and pulling out palettes I haven't used for ages. I am the same I love fragrance, to me that is more important than makeup, although I love both.
