I wish we changed or add the laws in America so all the adults with dyslexia would get assistive technology help in every day life with reading and writing. We should the future for kids and adults alike.
Where can one buy the technology to evaluate children for dyslexia? Are there learning centers that evaluate children and adults for dyslexia? Are there signs in the play skills of young children that are red flags for Dyslexia? Are there levels of Dyslexia?
How do we get automatic screening at our schools when Educational Psychologists wont screen because it 'labels' a child and Local Authorities wont pay for these tests as they are £750 va the BDA for children under 15...they are effectively failed at Primary school then go into secondary school years behind, end up in progress groups and stay behind...I highlighted dyslexia in my grandchild when she was 5/6. Same signs as her Mother and school always says 'oh we dont worry about that at this age', until she got to 8/9 then she was already behind, then they decided to hold her back 2 years which did nothing for her social skills or self esteem, thjen took away all her reading books and gave her picture books so she kept crying saying I can read Nanny, and she could read, just not the same as her peers and simple books, then they sat her at a desk in the corner facing the wall with no work, often she was just ignored and doodled all day, they said they have never had a child like her that they cant teach, then they excluded her for 2 days when she got upset after another girl tripped her up deliberately, then they told me to never allow her to wear hairbands as she fiddles with them and is distracted when in fact it was helping her concentrate, then they spoke negatively about her when she was there and she heard everything, they tried to stop her going on school trips as she apparently might run off, but she never did and why would she, a trip isnt the same as being made to stand up in front of your peers and made to read, they sent an assessor in who was apparently a behaviour psychologist and she slated my grandchild, because even she didnt understand Dyslexia and its emotions and behaviour/frustration/needs to be taught differently. But the schools say they dont have funding, resource, training, knowledge and have class sizes too b ig and will focus on the majority that can do it as they have to hit the government targets/stats on english and maths and SEN/Dyslexic children get left behind and ignored..I thought EVERY child mattered, not just academic ones. The school didnt want these childfren in their school as they affected stats so school started becoming selective. I only wish I had escalated to governors then diocese (CofE school) Scial worker suggested I move her school as school werent meeting her needs, but she only had another 18 months left and is not good with change at best of times, so we stuck it out. They kind of pushed the difficulty to secondary school.
Thank you so much for sharing this very sad story. How I feel for your grandchild. It is dreadful what the State Education System puts our children through. Would you mind if I shared your very sad story on my BLOG? Every child's story matters. I used to write for London Mums Magazine and would like to get a meeting with Sir Richard Branson about changing the whole school system. My heart breaks for your poor grandchild. How can they stopped her from going on school trips. They are making her feel stupid. Well she is most certainly not. State Schools are not for gifted children like your grand-daughter! WHAT IS SHE GOOD AT? We have a great English Teacher who was published by Cambridge University. She charges £5 a week. And used Google Classroom. We also use Cambridge University for online ART. Another amazing teacher. Many teachers are leaving State Education because the Ofsted checks are stressing teachers out, which then gets passed onto the poor children. Like your grand-daughter, my daughter struggled to read. They kept saying she was not Dyslexic. She ended up copying so she would not get in trouble for not being able to do her work. Forced to say her times tables out loud in class. Made fun of by all the students. Bullied by a few teachers because her brain worked differently. I got her moved class once. And had to fight to do so. The Teachers Assistant made her feel stupid by forcing her to read out loud in class, and telling her off because she could not follow the others, and got lost. The second time she got bullied by a teacher, I had no choice but to Home Educate. Taking Melody out of State Education was the best thing I ever did. It cured her Anxiety and her English is better than mine when I left school. Take a look at what poor Richard Branson went through. His Headmaster took down his PJ bottoms and beat him until he bled. Heartbreaking that some parents put their children in Boarding schools. Children need love, compassion, understanding and to feel safe and happy. Most children love home life, which is why Home Education is so popular. They can learn at their own pace without bullying and stress. Here is Richard Bransons sad childhood story, combined with my daughters. I like to turn negatives into positives. So I hope my blog will get shared far and wide so we can work together as a team to change the State Education System: butterflylullaby.blogspot.com/2019/03/dyslexic-richard-branson-hit-hurt-by.html
It is tricky to get a diagnosis for Dyslexia because the schools would like the parents to go private to get a diagnosis for Dyslexia and it can run into 100 to I think thousands of pounds
I found out I was dyslexic around the age of 10 so I found out late and my teachers didn't know that I was dyslexic so singled me out from things I day-dreamed a lot so I got told off many times thay also did things one way and if I figured something out another way I got told that's stupid and i was very artistic so used to draw a lot cuzz I just couldn't focus on the work. I hated all of teachers that I had and I still hate them thanks to them I have never embarrassed the fact that I am dyslexic
Thanks for sharing your story. I’m sure you are an awesome person and doing what you love to do and teaching others to love their passions. You showed those teachers that you were more than they could see. Always remember that you are Unique and you are AWESOME 👏
84% of teachers? I would really hope that times have changed. As much as I was identified in 1987, I would say that none of my teachers did anything differently in their approach for me in all the years of my education. Nice single conversation at the end of class to say was that okay? Did that go in okay, Would it help to show you it in a different way, do you need to go over that again.
My son is 6 and I’m glad we’re catching it early. ❤️
You are AWESOME 👏

We do but its difficult to get that support as an adult.
Thank You.
I think I maybe be dyslexic but was never evaluated for a definite diagnosis. I struggled in Math as a child and even now as an adult.
I can only relate to the maths part.

This is terrible ..the school should be ashamed of themselves

P.S. I have subscribed to your channel. Get in contact. The more stories we can get, the better chance of changing the Education System.
What technology with questions do children take to help identify whether they have dyslexia? The name of the technology was not provided.
Is this available dubbed in spanish?

It is a lack of education on Dyslexia
