0:28 that is why at some point I learned that if the teacher was going in order, I'd count how many class mates were before me. I'd count the paragraphs, then pre-read the paragraph that should be mine so that I was able to read it better when I was my turn. It was better than not re-reading but I still couldn't read well. I currently read at 120wpm out loud and about 150wpm when not verbalizing it. My mom and brother could read an entire book in a single night. I could read 10 pages which would take a few hours, then feel overwhelmed. I remember one time, I read a page of a book then wanted some water. I came back and picked up where i left off. About 3/4 way through the page (I was back to where I had left ot get water) I was thinking to myself, "this seems familiar" which is when I realized I was reading the same page. I was frustrated...and decided to go to the restroom. I returned and continued reading. About 1/2 through the page I realized I'm reading the SAME PAGE AGAIN!!! I knew I had dyslexia but I didn't know why I couldn't remember much of the page. Now, so many years later, I realize the affect dyslexia has on the person. That coupled with ADD doesn't help. I have only recently begun looking into ADD and dyslexia bc I recently told my current employer that I have those things. I only told them bc i had been written up a few times for not staying on task...thus i felt the need to let them know (they are the first people, other than my wife and a friend, that I told I have both things).

I hated reading as a kid. I still don’t particularly enjoy it. However, I would strongly recommend giving Ian Fleming a try. He has good vocabulary fascinating descriptions, and yet I think his books are very well paced and get to the point quickly.

I’m literally crying. I always thought there was something wrong with me and that I was stupid. I was never diagnosed with dyslexia. I had a hard time at school, being the last one to finish an exercise, getting distracted so easily. I still hate reading out loud, and I love my routine. Everything makes so much sense now. Thank you for this videos, it made me realise there’s nothing wrong with me.

One. So I said on the other video that a headline of today’s lesson helps, and maybe some step chunk / milestones too. But to add to that:
I can never write and listen.
I found that one of my lectures at University made all of his PowerPoint presentation slides available online, even with footnotes. It meant that I could go to the lecture and just listen. I could take the print out with me and embellish the notes with one or two words and no more than that. I think one of elect did this but without the notes and you had to make your own, and this in itself was still slightly distracting, and it took me awhile to realise that I should only make one or two word notes.
Looking back at the old standard school system with blackboards. Writing out the words on the blackboard by the teacher, and having to comprehend their handwriting, and then write it down was really hard… Let alone even being able to hear what they are saying. My heart would actually stop and have a panic attack when I heard my name mentioned.
They’re probably comes a point in normal school Ejuke ation that whilst you can give somebody like myself the notes separately, to allow the lesson to flow and the verbal information and visual stimulus to feed into my brain… For those notes to be useful the homework should really be to go back over those notes. Or to have homework questions that directly relate to those notes .

I wish we changed or add the laws in America so all the adults with dyslexia would get assistive technology help in every day life with reading and writing. We should the future for kids and adults alike.

The thing with inclusive classroom are needed because these under loved children need help and what gets me is that is that disadvantage children struggle to get diagnosed with Dyslexia and it is a struggle for them so I do think there needs to be looked at too. But let's also think about the children that struggle with Dyslexia but also there parents can't afford sertant things then there needs to be help there for the parent too.

Exactly dyslexia minimises self confidence of a child and in spite of having number of opportunities he can not be able to do anything with confidence.

Building confidence, practice and understanding will make learning easier. I am 30, I work within education, have a nice home and family and still don't always understand or get something the first or second time it is explained; so don't worry it will come young Kirsty.

As much as I agree with a lot of this, I am suspicious of the claim it’s helps everyone and hurts no one. Dyslexic think different so things that help us may frustrate others. I know I confuse the shit out of people sometimes with things that feel obvious to me.
