I sold my Porsche 911 (996mk2) convertible recently as you needed to be travelling at escape velocity to feel the rush but still wanted a convertible. Picked up a low mileage R52 2007 for not a lot of money and it's flippin brilliant they go like a rat up a drain pipe and stick like sh1t to a blanket and the later ones had an LSD. I have had loads of cars over the years and definitely one of the best choices, if you like driving you will love these. Pulley and inter cooler in the summer :-)
I had an original Inca yellow Mini with a Frankenstein engine built by the previous owners dad, 998cc block, head from an MG Midget and a 1275 crank. I was living in Berlin at that time, so I got a new transmission shipped from Swiftune to Berlin, the gearbox was spec’d with a longer 4gear and final drive ratio. We clock the mini at 110mph on the autobahn, It was a hilarious thing to drive, to see the Merc, Beemer and Audi drivers faces as this little yellow mini with two 6”2’ guys chuckling as they past doing 110mph was priceless. Anyway I was lucky enough to take one of the first New Mini cooper s’s on a 48 hour test drive, I was driving a VW Corrado VR6 at the time and the Mini only felt like a 1.6 on initial pull away, once rolling the performance was near identical to the 2.9 Corrado. The power was so smooth from low down it felt just like the vr6 through the rev’s, but what struck me is how similar the new mini felt like the old, the windscreen shape and position was just like the old one as did the steering, that go-kart feel as if your feet lead the way. I’m looking for a R53 to noon at the weekends on track days, so this video was a good one for me. Keep them coming..
I've never liked BMW and always been a Jaguar or Mazda fan but the Mini R3 is the dogs bollocks!! .. It's the closest you'll ever get to the proper Mini Cooper S from the 60's .. I love the R53 because of the ride, bumpy, uncomfortable and fast ... That's what makes this car unique compared to other cars out there in my opinion. 6 speed gearbox is also sweet as a nut. Good video, thanks for sharing.
I love BMW my friend I HATE mini though and I’m not going to lie I really do as most who drive them I have a complete different personality compared to the mini people as most are hippies and not very rich people Something I noticed everywhere whether that be forums or anywhere else But the R53 is a very nice car and quick but not by today’s standards so I’m glad I went back to BMW and got M5 and no more mini for me I would rather have the Audi RS3 over a Mini again I think that’s my next car to join my ranks

No mate have you seen my other video where I set fire to this car 😂😂😂 it was all a joke mate for this channel You didn’t actually believe by coming here I was doing mini did you ???
The supercharger gives lots of torque at low rpm. To get useful work from high rpm is not sensible on public roads. It accelerates like my electric Ford Mach E.
Do it yourself Fletcher, theyre not that hard to work on. Im a driveway mechanic and Ive done stuff to this car I would never attempt on anything else. Plus there is so much info out there and so many forums.
I had an E46 M3 a few years ago as a weekend toy. Good car but a let down compared to all of the hype. Plus typical shit BMW build quality..I eventually grew to hate the horrible manual gearbox and sold it after 6 months. Last year I bought a late 05 JCW R53. Its been a bit of project for me and Ive been doing all of the stuff Dean has done to this one..Still got jobs to do though. I have to say this though..whilst theyre never going to be a mega fast car, they are just so much fun to drive. Every time i get in it i end up laughing at the thing. They feel happy and cheeky, and blasting into a corner, you simply dont have to slow down, and if youre pulling 5k RPM, you can just boot it out of the corner. Awesome fun.
She pulls hard, very nice. I have had my R53 since new, still love driving it, every time something needs replacing now I just add more performance parts in their place at least that’s my excuse. The car is no longer my daily driver, I have been sitting on the fence on the pulley upgrade the 15% is recommended for track use, but mine won’t ever see track time just spirited road use, I am going to go with the smaller pulley. Cheers mate
15% is the sweet spot really. 17% will give you a few more horses across the rev range but you will need an upgraded intercooler to deal with the heat buildup. Problem with going too big on the pulley reduction is the stress it places on the charger....at 15% reduction you are there or thereabouts at the M45's max RPM's.....also there is a point where the charger goes beyond it's useful efficiency range.....where you're basically trying to get it to generate more boost than it's really capable of doing (given its size/spec etc). With 17+ sized pulleys you'll find low and mid range power is improved as the boost pressure generated across the rev range is that much greater.....but as you reach higher engine speeds the efficiency of the charger tails off and so top end power gets affected. You'll probably tend to find that a car with a 15% pulley (on the stock charger) will make better (or more linear) power towards the rev limit vs the smaller pulleys. Also the smaller the pulley, the more boost.....so as well as the obvious heat increases, you really need to start thinking about fuelling too. These cars do run fairly rich but if you push too hard I have no doubt that without a proper map and injectors you'd soon start leaning it out too much and probably blowing the engine. 15% and nothing else fine, 17%....definitely consider an intercooler and just bear in mind the stress on the SC and the efficiency tail-off. 19% I wouldn't be doing that without an IC, injectors (at least JCW spec) and a decent map personally.....also would want to be sure my supercharger is in A1 health before I did.
My mini would toast it . The full front end lifts and it then becomes quite difficult to keep it in a straight line . Model before your one . Better strut towers . Your cars strut bends on the top . I have a 53 plate version . Only tuned and a fat exhaust. More ridgit on the road

Yeah man it’s gone down BIG time because of that 100K service and there all approaching it or over it that’s why the price drops it costs 1300 anywhere to have that service basically the price of the car to buy that’s why it ain’t worth it for many people who ain’t gonna do it thereself this car cost me £250 to put right based on I was given most parts for the channel
Man you paid that much for it I wouldn’t have paid that much for a mini mate for bmw I would but not for Mini that’s why I waited until they dropped massively before getting one
R53 all the way, if you can find a decent one. Becoming a mixed bag now as many have been thrashed merciless/mistreated/badly maintained or inconsiderately modified. Definitely going to see a rise in values of good ones though as they are regarded as the best modern Mini and becoming sought after (particularly later facelift cars with the factory diff). R56 generation are a real mixed bag....in some respects an improvement in others really not at all. The earlier cars with the N14 are generally worth treating like the plague.....over complicated and not reliable....they have a penchant for cam chains, high pressure fuel pumps etc. Cheap to come by now because of the well known risk factor associated with them. The later LCI/facelift cars (believe from mid 2010) with the revised N18 motor were alot better but still not without their problems.....but probably the only R56 Cooper S I'd consider. If I could impart any advice, go for the car that seems best kept/maintained......dont be scared off by high miles if it has heaps of history and big receipts to go with it.....these cars can do big mileage as long as they are properly looked after. Dont be scared off either by some level of modification......reduced pulleys (15/17%), intakes and exhausts are common mods for these and done well bring excellent performance and sound gains. 15% pulleys the sweetspot....if it has a 17% but no intercooler upgrade that's a bit of a no no. Exhausts often end up being aftermarket stainless jobs as the pattern mild steel exhausts tend to be both expensive and poor quality and the OE Mini catback is c.800 quid for the parts alone! I dont think anyone in their right mind would spend that sort of money on an exhaust for it to just rot away once more! The cars to avoid are those that clearly haven't been maintained.....they'll end up just being an unreliable money pit and not worth the time of day.......or alternatively if you buy cheap you'll likely end up putting a few grand into putting it straight.....so you pays your money you make your choice.
Perfect no issues in the last year and drive it and red line it everyday without issue. But bear in mind I overhauled the whole car including supercharger oil , waterpump , thermostat , valve cover , upgraded intercooler , upgraded ignition coils and coil pack. All pulleys and crankshaft pulley and seal done new belts new oil filter housing gaskets all done and oil cooler gasket
Bought one of these this week. He’s right!!!! It’s insane. The most fun I’ve ever had driving.

What intercooler did u go with?
MTC INTERCOOLER im working with them and have alot more to fit from them now
I wanna do a 19% but everybody is cautioning me against it , how has yours been on the 19% ???
Perfect no issues in the last year and drive it and red line it everyday without issue.
But bear in mind I overhauled the whole car including supercharger oil , waterpump , thermostat , valve cover , upgraded intercooler , upgraded ignition coils and coil pack.
All pulleys and crankshaft pulley and seal done new belts new oil filter housing gaskets all done and oil cooler gasket
