On "Full Steam vs Steam Gun": The boiler produces a certain volume of steam, some directed into the engine and some into the gun. Or it can all be directed into the engine. Theoretically, it can also be redirected into the gun, but a) it is unknown whether the gun can handle it, b) whether it will actually increase the gun's effectiveness and c) game balance. Since boilers increase pressure slowly, we can be pretty sure that the Steam Tank's boiler is running at max capacity during the entire battle.
@@Temeluchas I guess that makes sense. My thinking is that it is not going on max at all times, so full steam would be put everything on max so you could go faster and shoot more. But your way also makes sense.
Upgraded Radiant Shield gives an extra use, however only Magic lords can get spell upgrades (so not available for the knight commander). I mathed it out a while ago: the +1 Hit for auto-hit weapons is better than Re-roll 1s for auto-hit weapons until you are rolling 3 dice, where it's equal. Functionally this means that only the Dwarf inferno cannon can pick either without it affecting the result. (Rerolling 1s adds 1/3 per dice to the average roll, so 2 dice increases the number of hits by 2/3 on average compared to the straight +1)
@@anonarat Really, I didn't know that. I thought I was just unlucky with the upgrades when I had spells with melee Lords. That makes me prefer casters even more. Nice, then I don't have to actually math it. It is as I expected then, +1 is better, but reroll feels better because you get a second chance on 1s. Thanks! :)

The Steam Tank is cool, but I think my favorite new unit are the not-Dragon Princes. That would be awesome, a bit overkill, but awesome. The only upside I can think is at defence 9 (damn) it would still have a 2+ to save against a charging T-rex which is pretty badass, and it would have a 3+ against a cannon which I imagine is the tanks hard counter normally (besides halberds who would still be 4+).
I actually got one on my run with the Tank. I just always ended up putting his buff on his helicopter he came with because 2 def 7 units seemed better than 1 def 9 and 1 def 5. Oh yeah, that's true. I guess these are darker elves instead of just dark elves. But I think it's good that they split them since I want monsters with my elves so I'm super happy with this.
Also I'm not similar how they are going to distinguish them besides hydras and Witch Elves. In Warhammer many units of High and Dark Elves are very similar and Sovl has lower granularity in unit specialisation.
Sometimes it would be nice. But I think ranged is already pretty powerful as is so there would have to be some big disadvantages to shooting into combat like -1 or -2 to hit or something like that.
@lazygrouse which is exactly why it's not quite as redundant as one might think. I seem to recall people talking about never putting the knight commander on the griffins and some would even consider keeping him with the knights over the dragon due to his re-roll ability. Then they added more unit skills including the cavalry one with re-rolls. After that the griffin became more viable for him which I Iike because the griffins are not half bad mounts, just not great in my opinion.
@@Jharug87 I mean without imperial elites I would probably always keep him in his knight unit for the rerolls. But with it in the game there isn't really any point of him staying with them unless you get unlucky and don't actually get the upgrade.
