Super hard old arcade game. I died a lot playing it, especially at the end where you drop down on the ninjas. I would have spent 50 dollars beating it in the arcade!
Yeah I died a ton too. I never owned this game but my neighbor called me and said he got this new awesome game but it’s too hard. So I went over and played it on the Turbo Graphix. Man, he was right! I am very good at video games but he found me a true challenge. I only made it to the final boss like twice but he killed me after a few seconds. I always thought the part before him when you are falling down was so difficult. I need to revisit!

A 10 foot tall ninja (I thought these guys were supposed to blend in?) Normal height samurai Mason blocks The turban ninja special forces synchronized kite riding team for the olympics More turban ninja special forces riding kites in training to replace the first team you killed. Giant samurai twins with crippling leg injuries and arthritis. Ghosts of the ninja you killed before. The 50 foot tall Buddhist practitioner of Sokushinbutsu (Mummifying yourself while alive)

The boss is NAMED just Asura, so we probably won't get a more specific name. --The samurai "twins" (quite a few more than two) are Ochimusha, same as the original ten-foot-tall ones. Not arthritic, but undead. --You missed the initial form of the Big Bad, the Blind Priest. First shows up escaping your judgement at the beginning, confronts you when you enter the final stage...and is defeated with no real fanfare, because his REAL body is that twisted sokushinbutsu at the bottom of the chasm.
Forget anything you've heard. This is the hardest platformer of all time. I'm playing with save states and I still can't even beat the third level. The amount of enemies the game throws at you is just sadistic. How anybody actually fed quarters into this thing back in the day is beyond me.
Not the first time Schlauchi plays this game I dare to say... By the way, the game is awesome, and very beautiful the allusion to the legendary Japanese wolfs and the name _Tsukikage_ (something like Moonshadow, I guess).
When I was young, i was the only one who could finish this game in video game room. It was around mine 11 years old. Yeah , old good games like this , or Slap Fight , or Nemesis, Jackal, Whizz, Rygar , Black Tiger... memories..
I've played the TurboGrafx 16 version and to see the Arcade version is awesome! I hope to live long enough to see a sequel (hopefully the sane side scrolling version and not a FPS style game).
One of those games where you’re the boss, what a classic. I just wish they’d remake this with modern day graphics. The concept and overall storyline of Ninja Spirit is perfect🙌🏾
I can't believe that music bug. The guy at Irem made a full song for the final boss that got replaced with the regular boss music. That wasn't supposed to happen.
@@deceiver444 The way "Omen, Part 2" was composed would have had it crest right when the fight with the Dai Sokushinbutsu begins. Oddly, the error was replicated in the PC-Engine version; I guess the composer decided that "Kessen"/"Bloody Battle" worked better in some way?
This game was visually gorgeous, and still looks so damn good today (2019), unfortunately it was insanely hard! Actually you could never been hit cause then you would die and loose all your power-ups made it impossible to continue without any boost! It is a pity they made it so frenetic, chaotic and difficult!
Every Irem game was insanely hard, almost impossible on coinops but if you spent hundred of dollars. legend of hero Tonma is almost impossible on the last levels.
Levels give you enough powerups so you get to the boss with most of them. The game is hard but we have enough farming sims today, so this is fresher than ever.
And I thought the PCE/TG16 version was brutal. The arcade version must have been a serious quartermuncher back in the day. The game looks gorgeous with that unmistakeable Irem color palette and art style.
Yeah because on the Turbo just physically touching them gets you killed although you have a few hit points most enemies kill you with one touch. I really really hated the last stage with those Ninjas while you're falling lol
Not many people could finish this game at the local arcade. That was the way you learned how to play the game without spending a lot of quarters or tokens, so I never was able to finish the game. I was only able to finish the first stage. Lot of people could finish Blacktiger/Blackdragon or Shinobi, but not this game.
That final stage is a deathtrap, poison gas everywhere, samurais on crack, and that monk in the intro that serves as a miniboss. And if that wasn't bad enough, the damn drop into the boss chamber with dozens of ninjas holding their sword up trying to skewer you. I still can't figure out if they were flying up to meet you, or you're just falling past them, although that would mean they would have to somehow been able to hover in midair. There is a definite pattern, but no indication to it until you either get lucky or died a few times to memorize the safe spots
Do you guys know, i played the pc engine version and i didn't knew that you can switch the powers by pushing the select button.. i had to beat the game with sword and sword only. The ninjas right before the final boss are immune to the sword attack. But i still managed to beat the game after using countless continues. And i thaught this as the HARDEST GAME EVER PLAYED!!!! pst.. if someone reads the comment, i chalange you to try the same in any version
Not gonna lie. I was not expecting the main ninja character to turn into a werewolf after defeating the Grim Reaper final boss at the end of the arcade game.
I think he's supposed to be an okuri-oukami, a benevolent wolf youkai. I'm guessing the Blind Priest was trying to make him into a plain oukami/inugami bringer of ruin.
Clearly has cheats enabled, should have died over a dozen times. Crazy thing about this game is how hard it gets after you die trying to get back all the power ups - this is just a steam roll through
Maybe you may help me. I was looking for an old Japanese arcade game (circa 1988/90). It was somehow similar to Cadash in terms of gameplay and graphics. You control a ninja able to shoot shurikens and charge the attacks by keeping the attack button pressed. During the game you power-up this skill to the point of being able to cause earthquakes. Any idea about the title? Thanks in advance.

Some time it was better spend money in the arcades than buy the game for 8 bits or amiga and st computers from that time, i have seen amiga version and looks good.
A master cheater perhaps, I don't know why he/she would pretend to jump and dodge when it's obvious they've turned on invincibility. Take 16:12 for example, that contact with the poison gas would have been fatal but it's not, there are few more notable examples too throughout the video

Not sure how this game hasn't had a remake. Either as a side scroller, or immersive 3D environment. What a beautiful game.

Just play the Turbografx/PC Engine version instead. You can take up to 5 hits in that version and it is a great port.

It was/is a true Irem game. For some reason it reminds me very much of Metal Slug

Tsukikage was ALREADY a wolf spirit. He was just taking the form of a shinobi killed by the Dai Sokushinbutsu.
