    Africa remembers her friend
    We, Africans will always grateful to the former Soviet Union (Russia), for standing with us at the most critical times.

      For your information, Russia was NOT USSR but part of the USSR..Ukraine was part of USSR. Many exiles lived and were educated in Kyiv... The important part of human interactions is that you have to teach people how to treat you. If you do not teach people how to treat you, people will treat you only in a way that benefits them.
    From the days of Mandela, south Africa always stood firm to big powers on respect for Africa and Africans. If we allow people to only take from us without giving or without following our terms, we become their slaves without physical shackles on our hands and feet.

    South Africa stands with Russia especially as its official ally in the BRICS. The West might have an established trade relationship with South Africa but the truth of the matter is that..that relationship hasn't benefitted South Africa and its economy. The worst benefits more from this relationship than South Africa does so if the South African government was honest with themselves they would know that the US doesn't have their best interests in mind. Russia is South Africa's best bet at the moment.

    USA visiting, then followed by Zimbabwe meeting (the next day) with the exact same representative, almost suggests in a subtle manner, choose between the 2.
    I choose human rights and accountability. If the US represents those 2, we are on. I am HUMAN and my HUMAN rights will be acknowledged and accounted for where failed/abused.

    • @RatieM64
      @RatieM64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You cannot mention US and human rights in the same sentence. All US is interested in is their interest and US hegemony. Look at Syria, Libya, Afghanistan or Iraq. Look at Ukraine. As for Cuba, Venezuela...the list is endless. If we don't watch out and begin to explore alternatives that will be our future too.

    This is called diplomacy, plain and simple. To characterize this as SA standing up to anyone is foolish. Countries have allies who have similar views and policies. When your ally says, "I know you don't like X country because of X situation, but we don't care because we have our own agenda" that's not "standing up" or being brave, it's making a choice. The US is with the EU and Ukraine, and Russia invaded a sovereign country (for its own reasons and that's a different conversation), so it stands to reason we would side with our allies. If SA values cheap oil more than its relationship with the West, so be it. SA needs to make decisions based on its needs. However, it's at the risk of tarnishing that relationship. The US stating this is not bullying, it's "diplomacy."
