      That whole cast was amazing. It was the first time I ever saw Stephen Root. The man is one of the most incredible character actors on the planet.

      @@YTLawnGnome was just saying to my wife last night while watching some Newsradio clips (incl this one, ofc!) that I think most people would say the most successful/well known/popular cast members BEFORE they were on Newsradio were probably Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz, and Dave Foley...
      But afterwards? Joe Rogan, for... interesting reasons... and Stephen Root. Just in tons of drama AND comedy movies. As you said, character actor extraordinaire! There's a new movie with him (and Marc Maron... and Allison Janney) called To Leslie that I mostly want to watch just because of the actors I enjoy that are in it. He's on that list for me "see his name? maybe check that out just based on that."

    I'm on a binge watch of Newsradio solely because I remembered this scene from the series the other day. For me it's the most memorable. It's funny in its own right as you see it here, but ten times better within the context of the lead up to it. Mathew is just constantly bugging Dave to enforce the smoking ban on Bill, making coughing sounds as he walks past Dave and Bill talking, just constantly being a pester. Now you have this scene with Bill and Dave calmly talking the following day about their agreement to quit each other's vice together, Bill with his smoking and Dave with his coffee. You can sense the anxiety their facing... and then Mathew walks in as the match that sets off the powder keg. The intensity in which Bill hits back in stark contrast of his calm discussion with Dave.
    Newsradio had some of the best writing. They had the talent, that you don't often see today, of running gags happening in and around different scenes as the episode progressed. If you don't experience Mathew's antagonizing Bill in the background throughout the episode leading up to this scene, it takes away a lot of the context.

    to me in similar but different fashion newsradio and spin city were both some of the greatest sitcoms of the 90s and were somewhat alike being that they both had a all star talented cast that later sunk due to certain losses to their cast members that really made the shows suffer to the brink of being cancelled too soon.

  • @kendallrivers1119
    @kendallrivers1119 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The 90s really was the last truly great decade for sitcoms: Newsradio, Frasier, Martin, Seinfeld, Roseanne, Home Improvement, Fresh Prince, Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends, Spin City, The Steve Harvey Show, The Simpsons,Living Single, Full House, Family Matters, Just Shoot Me etc. Were dominating the small screen ratings wise and culturally. After this reality shows took over and it hasn't been the same since with only a few good ones popping up now and then.
