I still remember this great song from the Late Spring/Summer of 1968 when I was 12. What set it apart was the guitar and the repetition of the words ‘I Love You’. Listening to this now I feel like I’m back in that time with all its memories both good and bad…

Larry Norman was my guitar teacher for over two years. He taught me this song when he wrote it before they recorded it. Loved this song when it came out. He was a very good teacher and a nice guy. I saw him at a Creation Music Festival at The Gorge in Washington about a year or two before he passed away.

The definitive version of this song. Eclipses all others with one of the most urgent guitar hooks ever. The vocals have a presence and clarity of the highest magnitude. Listen to great music all day. The guitar riff from this one will be the last song wafting through your brain at the end of the day. That crazy Hammond organ solo adds the energy of a hungry tiger to the mix. Can't miss with this one!

I used to live across the street from these guys when i was in junior high school in San Jose. Used to watch them practice in the garage. They were our neighborhood rock stars. It was a huge deal when they got a recording contract and played this song on KLIV. It was a huge hit locally and i believe it got some nationwide exposure as well. What a thrill to hear this again after so many years. Brought back great memories of those happy times so long ago.

woodcutterdude Yeah, we're getting old man. I was 16 when this came out and I hadn't heard it in at least probably 20 years. I just heard it twice today on TV as the background music for a strange new 'Got Milk?' commercial and I had to find it. th-cam.com/video/zDxQC9X2CKo/w-d-xo.html
The milk ad music is the original recording played a little faster and chopped up. You can tell by the piano solo instead of the People's version with the organ.
The song was originally written and recorded by The Zombies - th-cam.com/video/o6c1k_26T3k/w-d-xo.html but the People version is longer and the vocals are better. I found many versions of the song by both bands and I was surprised to find a concert video from about 5 years ago of The Zombies and they do the People's cover version of their song in concert!!
I have the People album in my vinyl collection and I'm gonna have to dig this out now.

!968 and I was 12 years old when I first heard this song on the radio. Just so happened, that it was this year when I also got hit by Cupid at the same time. Yes, this song reminds me of my very first crush for a girl as a kid and after all these years, the fund memories linger on. Thanks for posting this song that bring such wonderful memories from back then.

I bought a 45 rpm of this record as a teen, when it first came out. I loved it. I had a garage sale, and this beautiful neighbor asked me to play it over and over. I moved to Hawaii as an adult, and a DJ on the radio was taking requests for forgotten classics. He played this, and then threw it out the window (you could hear a crash -- I guess a sound effect.) I thought, what an idiot!

In 1975 when I was 12 and at a friend's house, she played an obscure record that I had never heard before. Her older sister made fun of the song because the lyrics weren't very....original, I guess. That strange song got stuck in my head all those years and I never knew who sang it, but I never forgot its repetitious tune.
    This was the song.

My band in high school played this song when it came out. Years later, I discovered Larry Norman’s great, great album “In Another Land.” Larry, the blond guy in People, went on to become an early Contemporary Christian music artist. A friend of mine did sound for a concert of his in the late 80’s and told me, “Larry Norman is without question, the strangest human being I have ever met.”

I just found this song and i love it. here are the lyrics
I love you, I love you, I love you
Yes I do but the words won't come
And I don't know what to say
I should tell you I love you, I do
The words should explain but the words won't come
I shouldn't hide my love deep inside
The words should explain but the words won't come
I should tell you just how I feel and I keep try-y-y-in'
But something holds me back when I try to tell you
I love you, I love you, I love you
    Yes I do-o-o
I love you, I love you, I love you
Yes I do but the words won't come
And I don't know what to say
I shouldn't hide my love deep inside
The words should explain but the words won't come
If you could see what you mean to me
The words should explain but the words won't come
And oh, how hard I try to tell you I lo-o-ove you
But something holds me back when I try to tell you
I love you, I love you, I love you
    Yes I do-o-o
I love you, I love you, I love you
Yes I do but the words won't come
And I don't know what to say, yeah!
I should tell you I love you, I do
The words should explain but the words won't come
I shouldn't hide my love deep inside
The words should explain but the words won't come
And oh, how hard I try to tell you I lo-o-ove you
But something holds me back when I try to tell you
I love you, I love you, I love you
    Yes I do-o-o
I love you, I love you, I love you
Yes I do but the words won't come
And I don't know what to say
    I love you
