The Wood is the movie of my life. I was just like Mike growing up. The song playing at the beginning of the movie is Back In The Day by Ahmad. The song was his one & only hit. Fun facts: Malinda Williams who played young Alicia was 29 years old when this movie was released. She’s older than Sanaa Lathan who played adult Alicia, six years older than DeAundre Bonds who played Stacy & 10 years older than Sean Nelson who played young Mike. She played a junior high school student & she was believable. Omar Epps & Sanaa Lathan were also in Love & Basketball, Taye Diggs & Sanaa Lathan were also in The Best Man, Brown Sugar, The Best Man Holiday & The Best Man Final Chapters, Malinda Williams, DeAundre Bonds & Antwone Tanner who played Boo were also in Sunset Park. One of the dudes behind the counter at the store was Rick Famuyiwa the director of the movie & the other guys were his friends he grew up with. This movie was based off their upbringing. Please watch the following coming of age movies: Cooley High Boyz N The Hood The Inkwell Roll Bounce ATL Dope
I love Roll bounce a hundred times better than ATL. Some of the girl characters get on my nerves and what’s disappointing is there was never a scene with T.I getting to know Keith David character.
I never understood why teachers would always make new students stand up in front of the class and introduce and tall about themselves to the rest of the class like why ? They don't care who I am. However I had to do something similar when I started 6th grade. The teacher just had everyone go around the class say are name and say what subjects we liked.
I was one of the people recommending this. It's one of my favorites. It was my generations "coming to age" like House Party and Cooley High. Although the movie is dealing with adult characters reminiscing; so they were teens in the 80's, it still reminded me of my junior high years in the late 90's (I'm telling my age lol). I saw this movie at the theaters at about 12/13 and so I related to the younger flashback scenes the most. and back then I had the biggest crush on young Mike and Stacy lol.
This is a feel good coming of age black comedy. One of my all time favorites. The only one that I love with Omar Epps. Hope you react to Love don’t cost a thing, roll bounce, the fighting temptations, big momma’s house, barbershop, lottery ticket and like mike. I’m also missing Johnson family vacation.
Lmao loving your reaction! I second that you should definitely check out The Inkwell and Cooley High those two movies I neverrrr see reactions to and I think you will have a lot to say about both Lol
You Should watch "Dope" ! It's directed by the same guy and it's in the same universe as The Wood. There's even a cool lil cameo in it that I won't spoil
One of my favorite movies definitely need more movies like this now cooley high roll bounce & Johnson family vacation are other black movies that are wholesome & great
26:20 i thought the same at first when i watch this the first time thinking the first flashback was Freshman year not realizing watchin again they were suppose to be in 8th grade hence why while i like the casting, i still question it ESPECIALLY since Malinda Williams who played young Alicia was not only 28-29 during filming she's a year older than Sanaa Lathan who played older Alicia lol matter fact older than all the older versions of the characters except for Roland's wife Lise lol
I have so many fun facts for you. I went to that jr high/ elementary it's called LaTijera middle school & elementary. The 3 guys working the cash register at that liquor store are the 3 main characters this movie is based on. The high school they attended was baby rivals with mines (although I actually graduated when this movie came out 99)Their schoo is a catholic school called St. Bernard's. Both our high school's St.B & WESTCHESTER 🙌🏽 are by Southern California's 1st Black Beach ⛱️ "Bruce's Beach ". The area this movie was filmed is in Inglewood on the borderline near Ladera Heights known as " the black Beverley Hills ", it's between everything. You can go from mansions 4 blocks from the hood, to the beach , to Crenshaw blvd or Hollywood all in 1 day. My aunt also attended the directors ( 1 of the guy's behind the counter) wedding that happened the day after this premiere ( which happened a couple of days after my graduation) . So many great memories with this movie, I'm SO HAPPY You watched ❤️🙏🏽
u have to remember when they went to the dance, they was only like 15, the was freshmen, and girls wasn't knowing how dudes bodies worked like that back then😂...u said his woody should go down cuz he was embarrassed when he was in front of the class BUT THEY DONT😂😂😂
Losing your V aint always the worst lol. My 1st time lasted a solid 45 mins with foreplay lol. Some of us had old school cats to give us the game even women lol
One of the rare coming-of-age Black movies where no one died 🖤.
It’s wholesome ain’t it ✨✨
There should be more like this
@@DagiTingz I love coming of age movies with socially awkward characters who aren't jocks, thugs or playboys.
The intro song is Back in the day by Amhad from 1994

18:22-18:24 police wiped the jheri curl activator that was in Stacy's hair on his shirt real disrespectful like
I def thought it was something else for a second. That’s why I’m glad they clarified. Cause that was sus
Fun fact about Will Smith, he admitted to using Rakim's flow for when he made "Summertime".

Great pick sist'a. As usual I enjoyed hearing your thoughts.....
intro was so smooth
You know the vibes. Gotta give a lil sprinkle sprinkle
Mackin and Hanging
Sanaa Lathan playing adult Alicia was the biggest faux pas of this movie, to me. Like, why? 😂
Malinda Williams is older than her.
In 1998-1999 Lela Rochon would have been a better casting for the adult Alicia.
Lmaooooooo I woulda liked if that was cast differently too
Exactly as if Malinda Williams isn’t finer than Sanaa
Fax Malinda Williams finer than Sanaa

LMAOOOOO yooo I hate that. Like I don’t wanna talk to these niggas. I’m here to do my class work and mind my business like tf

Fun fact I heard that the dudes the movie is based on are the store clerks when they was buying grits.
I never knew Slim real name until today lmaooo shout out Richard T.🤣🤣
And that oldschool music from the 80s-90s Heart&Soul, R&B, and HipHop would have you swooning hard thinking about life
