British birder here... nearly 30 years ago I boosted my, until then entirely Palaearctic, life list with a road trip from Bar Harbor, Maine down to Flamingo, Florida. I was a happy bunny but my American birder friend was disappointed that I hadn't seen any real rarities. Then one evening in Florida he turned up waving a local newspaper - a Black-headed Gull had turned up at Neumanns Lake near Gainsville, - did I want to go and see it? Err.. no thanks mate, I have to put cages up to keep the buggers off the bird table at home.
It was Tuesday, September 17. Good question. It matters. The channel usually has more pelagic species, but many seem to have headed south early this year.
Sure. I started out with just a Canon 80d. I now use a Canon Vixia HF g50 camcorder for birds and closeups. I use a DJI Osmo Pocket Plus 3 for wide angle scenery and hand-held A-Roll. I have both an on-camera shotgun microphone and a lapel mike as needed, both with windscreens...that mostly work. Everything is 4K, so I can crop for TH-cam without losing noticeable resolution. Oh, and a tripod. I'm mostly solo.
What incredibly beautiful scenery and just an awesome amount of gulls. Fabulous boat trip Bob! Thanks for posting 😊
I've seen so many birds in there so many times. But this was overwhelming! Simply amazing.
Awesome video as always Bob! Really enjoyed all of the amazing gulls! Sabine's Gull is my favorite so super happy to see you pick that one up!
Thanks for the video Bob. Enjoyed seeing so many gulls.
Ocean birds are my favorite right now. Such a great adventure seeking amazing birds.

My last visit to London was in winter. Even the dormant swimming pools were full of black-headed gulls. It made me chuckle.
Wow, great camera work. You have inspired me!! Thanks for that video!
"Suck it Alaska!"... I'm dying here :)
4:13 I don’t think that’s a real Sabine’s Gull…. 😅
Great video!!!
Holy c***! Great stuff!
Another winner video. On what date did you take the boat ride?

@Bob_Duchesne Thanks. You turn your videos around quickly.
There's been Sabines spotted on Lake Ontario near Hamilton this past week.
Hi Bob, a list of the equip you use would be helpfull. Thanks!

@@Bob_Duchesne Thanks!
how in the world do you report all these birds in ebird!?
I don't. I let my friend, who wasn't filming constantly, do it. The trick was doing separate counts, depending on what side of the border we were on.
