I am a former Durham resident and native born there in 1955; leaving in 1973. I've been living in New York City for the last 50 years. Damn, I am old. 😀 😃 😄 😁 😆 😅 😂 🤣When you started the video with the small alley looking street, I had no idea where that location was. Once I saw Gattis Street, I realized, this was on the Westend. My mother and her siblings grew up on the Westend on Carrol Street. Durham has changed so much since I've lived there. I get lost in certain parts of the Bull City. I graduated from Durham High School due to force desegregation in 1970 of Durham City Schools. I would have preferred to attend the all Black Hillside High School like my mother and other relatives. I use to walk from Durham High to 5 points everyday to catch the Number 3 Holloway Street bus home getting off at Hyde Park Avenue and Holloway Street. Thank you so much for making this video because it has made me a little home sick.😎

P.S. After watching your entire video, I am very happy to see that you drove around Black areas in Durham near Umstead Street and Fayetteville Street. That brings back memories to the late 60's as a Junior High student at Whitted Junior High School located on Umstead. Seeing you drive down Linwood Avenue brought back memories of my family old church, Russell Memorial CME located on Alston Avenue near Linwood. There use to be a family Black owned grocery store, Smiths, located at Alston Avenue and Linwood when I was a boy. It's been 4 years since I've been home to the Bull City. I recently had a 1st cousin to pass away there. If she's funeralized and not cremated, I might fly home for the funeral from New York City. This will give me an opportunity to place flowers on the graves of family members at Beechwood Cemetery.

Thanks for watching but why wouldn't I drive around black areas when I'm black my own self?

@@4kDRIVETOUR Your being Black makes a difference my brother or sister. Many of the videos I've seen on TH-cam about the Bull City have been in mostly white areas near Duke or downtown. I assumed the person making those videos were a non Black person. I purchased a new Samsung 4K computer monitor last Christmas 2022 and your video looks nice. Thank you for this video and I am giving you a shout out from New York City (Manhattan) on a Sunday morning, May 21, 2023.

Durham is still a big town. There are no sights or sounds of a city. Used to be a lot of dealing in the parking lot behind the barber shop at 32:12. Anybody remember those days?….😂

I'm not from Durham but I used to come there often enough to know it used to be way worse as far as people hanging around on the streets I would love to have recorded that activity back then.
