I have struggled one full year with slices or straight to the right; despite lesson several instructors; i did this yesterday and the driver went miraculously straight; bravo young man. Will continue with this concept to make sure it wasnt a fluke lol. Will keep you updated.
The way you’ve explained and demonstrated this is better than I’ve seen anyone do. You’ve really broken it down in a simple fashion, without getting massively technical. I’m playing later so will give it a go! Thank you.
I just wants to add there is 1 major reason a lot of golfers still slice the ball and rarely anybody ever mention it. I have a lot of friends who has a close face, and they also slice. More of a pull slice or still a push slice. That's because they are still hitting the ball with a glancing blow. The club face comes back in as part of the arc as soon as they make an impact, even come in from the inside they still slice. You need to swing in to out 4in PASS the ball. The ball can't be the farthest distance of the arc of their swing. When I explain this to my friends it finally fix their slice. Also not teeing the ball so far in front by the left foot help explain why glancing blow will always cause the ball to slice.
This is 100% genius advice, I'm an ok golfer but this explained I can draw the ball at will now. Thank you I've tried all sorts to shallow my swing but it was useless till this advice!
@@jordangillis1798 ok, in simple terms there is imagine there is a half circle or an arc in front of you. See the apex of that half-circle? Most likely is the center of your stance. That arc for most amateurs is their “club path”. So here is why u slice, is u are hitting the ball at the apex (farthest pt) of the arc. To fix a slice or not hit a glancing blow strike u need to hit the ball before the apex of the arc and still travel 2-3in after impact before the club path comes back in. U need to hit the back THEN the apex of the arc. The driver is the most difficult to do because of the length of the club and because u are trying to hit up on the ball! Now u know the concept. To fix it, if your target line is 9 clock, and u are standing at 6 clocks. U need to “feel” like u are trying to hit the ball to 10 o'clock or even 11clock for a draw. And u are stretched and reaching for it. Another way I found that works for my friends are when u are looking at the ball as if the ball is a clock. U want to strike and aim to hit the ball at 5 o'clock with a club face that is square to the target. If u aim at the ball trying to hit 3 a clock and expect the ball to fly straight at 9 clocks? That’s a slice. Bc our swing is curved, our club face is curved. I hope this helps.
Alex, thank you so much! In one less than 5 minute video, your ball striking video made it simple for me to aid my consistency and I have no doubt that with very few practice swings I will now be more better equipped to control my ball flight with this little video. By the way, I am 75 and have been playing golf for 60 years and I have never seen such a concise to the point explanation with accompanying drills to help the golfer achieve results so quickly. Over the years my handicap has swung from a 9 to a 14, I am certainly not a good golfer but now I am retired and I can work on my short game and I have improved but it seems as though my long game has gotten worse as I hit less greens in regulation as my putts drop dramatically and my chipping has gotten so accurate. I do now believe that I will be able to keep that bloody handicap in the single digits.
I see a lot of youtube channels like this and I appreciate all the information. One thing I don't see is that they have all these slo-mo swing edits but never of the actual impact at ground level from the side or slighty behind the ball.. I would really like to see these impact angles better with some ground level cameras...
Morning Alex. Thought it would be nice to give you some feedback. Watched this first thing yesterday then implemented it into my game. So no practice just straight into the round. Apart from a couple of drives where i didn't really trust the process and pulled/hook at the last moment it was the best i have ever hit my driver. Was out hitting my playing partner every drive ( rarely happens ) and straight down the middle. Thank you so much i am brimming with confidence now, definate game changer for me.
Hi Alex good explanation as ever - my slice journey may be of interest. Tried to implement your advise or something very similar - seemed to work ok with irons and fairway woods - but less so with the Driver and even sometimes the 3 wood ! Then I did the following - got myself a Ping G30 SF (anti slice) Driver and did exactly as you say with the following - hovered the Driver at address and turned my glove logo skyward at top of my swing - and my drives are straight - no more slice - thought I would never see that - not with the Driver ever ! So keep trying - still hit a bit wayward with the driver now and then - so I leave it at home and use a 3 and 5 wood off the tee - don't let the Driver mis behaving spoil your fun - switch to 3 and 5 woods off tee and go and fix your driver at the Range or take lessons !
Fergus, I have struggled with driver for a long time. I’ve learned so much from Alex’s videos and now I’m hitting the driver the best I ever have. One thing I try to imagine is having a ball between my elbows and trying to keep my elbows close together throughout the swing. It’s helped to get the club on a good plane and bomb it down the fairway.
I have not played the game for nearly 30 years, decided to head to the Driving range with my brother in law..some things never change,,80% of my shots were slices..I will try this this swing on Friday.thanks Alex.Subscribed.
Here is a fun one for yeah. My swing on GC quad is 4 degrees in to out with my driver. I, however have a hard time closing the face. I tend to leave the face open about 10 degrees. Strengthening my grip doesn't seem to do anything to change it. What I have done is accepted the fact I have a hard time closing the face and I moved the ball up from my heel to my big toe. Path is now slightly out to in and my face is less open and now I fade it. This happens with most of my clubs. When practicing tigers 9 window drill I can easily hit a low, mid and high fade. Somewhat hit high, mid and low straight. But have the hardest time with the draw side. That being said I do have days were I'll go out on the course and hook everything from my 7 down, but I don't do that too often. Most of the time it's I want to draw it and I end up slicing it because I can't for the life of me close my face. I've had 3 coaches work on my swing, each trying different things to hit a draw but nothing seems to work hahaha. Fade life here I come.
Love this video thats my slice I swing over the top and across the ball. Trying to figure out the fix is difficult on the course. And seeing that down the wall swing to inside out WOW ill let you know how it works out
